To the torrent sites legal retailers, away!!!!!
I say buy it, watch it, love it, and scream from the rooftops about how awesome it is.

No, really.
And then get Doctor Horrible.
Oh christ did you hear about that thing a while ago with Dr. Steel? I love Whedon as much as the next guy but:
C'mon, a mad scientist in a white lab coat who sings... He could have at least mentioned the guy lol

I think that's called pastiche. Or maybe homage. You did say that Whedon was the geeky Tarantino.

Edit: Though, the aesthetic of the mad scientist in a labcoat and goggles is far older than Dr Steel.

Touché...

Haha well the guy was cool about it. He has a kind of "dude, why!?" thing going on, very understandably, but it never went further. Do you think they could of gone to court, or just had a competition to see who could build the coolest death laser?

Court? No. There have been mad scientists with goggles, gloves, and labcoats that predate 1999. It's not unreasonable that two of them would sing; and they seem to sing very different songs in different contexts.

Laser battle's definitely the way to go.

You completely left Wash out of the characters! He has so many awesome quotes, like this:
"Things are about to get interesting"
"Define interesting"
"(dead pan) Oh god, Oh god, we're all going to die?"

I'm actually getting a shirt based on that quote: http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts-apparel/unisex/popculture/d3e6/

+1 point of the laser is orbital
+2 additional points if it harnesses the power of a sun

+4 points if the laser operates from within the earth's core

This is a competition between mad scientists, after all.

+3 for getting a damsel and putting her in distress.

lol this sounds like the kind of game you'd play whilst extremely intoxicated, which thankfully I am.

Uh... Spoiler? lol

I think if River got touched the others wouldn't have time to get to him. BRAINS... PRIEST BRAINS ARE EVERYWHERE!

What he said. Take it from a fellow Browncoat. You're going to adore this film.

I'm tempted to watch it again after reading this review. It flows well, is written intelligently and sprinkled with great humor. I've become a fan.

Very well done. To this day Firefly remains tied with Futurama for my favorite series of all time and Serenity is one of my most beloved movies. Every time I put the movie on I watch the intro from Joss Whedon and tear up, cause you can see how much he loved the series, especially when he gets to the comment about Browncoats.

He really should be, I mean this kind of thing is unprecedented - he said it himself.
I remember seeing it for the first time and just thinking that it was incredibly lucky to have even been made, the fact that it's also awesome is a very pleasant bonus.

Joss is kinda the king of the geeks, it's a good thing :D

Aye, though he kind of dropped the ball with Dollhouse IMO. I wanted to enjoy it, but it was just too bizarre for me to enjoy.

I saw this before I had even heard of Firefly. I forgot about it, and then discovered firefly a couple of years later. It is a fantastic movie, and does well to tie up a couple of loose ends, and still have a good story. The trouble is that they still didn't explain what was up with Shepard. Nevertheless great review.

Edit: Ha ha ha, I didn't realize it as I was typing this up but I'm actually wearing my Serenity t-shirt today (the brown one with the words "Browncoat" emblazoned on the front and "I aim to misbehave" on the back).
And I'm wearing my dinosaur betrayal shirt!
