Loose the cake. Beer is good enough by itself. If you must, I would go with pie rather then full blown cake.

Did someone mention beer?
BEER BEER!

Hell yes it sounds like a great idea, I love cake and beer, why not combine the two. Make sure it's good beer and not cheap piss though!

Captcha: bacon and eggs

Add that too!

How about cake first. Then beer. More beer. Then some booze.

Am I the only one who thinks the taste of beer and sugar mixing is unsettling? The idea behind wine and cheese is that they compliment each other, beer doesn't go particularly well with cake in my opinion.

When I was in fist year university (oh god that was already 2005) we actually had cake and beer parties on Friday in residence.

Those were the days.

I think it depends on the cake. You probably don't want a belly full of frosting and beer sloshing around. I'd also go with a heavy cake type as opposed to a fluffy one.
My party of this type would probably be Carrot Cake and a kegger of Magners. God, I'd eat and drink at that party until I passed out.
You mean Magners hard cider? Because that actually does sound pretty good. I kind of want to go get a carrot cake and a six pack of cider now.

replace the bear with pot, and you have your self a epic combination.
What if you had a bear which, instead of being covered in fur, was covered in bud.

You could have an awesome pet bear, with an added bonus.

OT: I approve of the idea, although I enjoy some cheese and wine.
the moment i realized i said bear not beer /lol. always bin a fantasy of mine to have a perfectly domesticated bear, and if its a bear i can pick buds off of, even better i say!

on topic pot > beer.

That's practically every family party that I've ever been to.

No matter what the occasion, be it a child's birthday party or a Quinceniera, there has always been cake and beer involved. I'm surprised that other cultures don't incorporate the two in all parties.

Hi Escapists, today i present to you a 1st world problem.

At Uni, my friends did quite a few Cheese and Wine nights- now, i'm fine with the wine but not cheese, so i decided to come up with my own variant. I don't like cheese but i do like cake, and whilst i don't mind wine i prefer beer, so i am thinking of bringing the two together for a social with my friends back home.

So yeah- Cake and Beer Party- the less bourgeois and more nerdy version than a cheese and wine night- do you think it will work or do you think it's just a silly idea?
That sounds awesome. Although I believe the wine and cheese equivalent is beer and curry :3 cake might be a little filling with beer.

My Physoc has a beer and donuts party every year. It works well, although it lacks the nourishment you can get with a proper cheese and wine (when you have olives and crackers and all sorts), so I second Moonlight Butterfly with the suggestion of beer and curry. Truly a masterful combo.

Aye, the hard cider. I think the two flavors would mix nicely. It just came off the top of my head but I actually want to try it now myself. Leave of the frosting though. I still think beer (even cider) and frosting don't mix.

Actually i'll admit the other option i am considering is beer and curry.

I made a facebook poll between beer and curry/ cakes and ale (sounded better than cake and beer) and my friends voted in favour of beer and curry, although cake and ale did also attract quite a few votes so i might do that another time.

What a difficult summer i'm having!
