I've never understood why so many people think "freedom = democracy."

I know that this example has been used to the point of cliche, but it's applicable: should white peole have gotten to vote on the rights of black individuals? There are others as well: how about what sex positions should be allowed to be performed, including in private(this was actually done)? Or about what the maximum age difference can be in couples?

Just because people voted doesn't mean that they're right.

Got to disagree. That's an awful idea, allowing the parents to choose their child's sexuality. I could imagine the family destruction that would cause if the child ever found out ("You messed with my genes just so YOU could be happy! It's my life, not your plaything!").

Well, it goes both ways. If parents can choose to make their children heterosexual or homosexual, we've already long overshot even Gattaca-like social situations of messing with genes and humanity is pretty much doomed.
