I guess if they broke student/teacher relationship so they could have a romantic one, at least in some way they did the responsible thing. Unfortunately if they want to be together we don't really have much grounds to complain. Unless some kind of coercing is discovered, i don't think the two should be in any way interfered with despite what we may individually think about it.

I always get abit confused by this "oh she's 18 now, so she must be mature" - always reminds me of a reverse of the Harry Enfield sketch where Kevin suddenly becomes a dick on his 13th birthday.

I won't say that she doesn't have the right to make that choice.

But I will judge her negatively for making that choice. Nothing good can come from it.

It's not right. You think at 18 you magically become wiser and forget all the ways that other people affected your thinking, or even brainwashed you when you were a minor? NO.

If she met him after she was 18 then fair enough. BUT THAT'S NOT THE CASE.

Also as someone who was once 18 let me just that 18 year olds are complete fucking idiots. And 99% of them have no business making these kind of decisions for themselves.
Yeah, that about sums it up rather nicely. Unfortunately the law does not dictate that stupid people cannot make their own decisions :(

I know she's 18 and all... but something about this screams "sketchy" to me. And I'm pretty sure that guy has (had?) a wife and kids...

Realistically, the whole thing will fall apart as soon as the novelty wears off.

Just about every girl has a "Get back at Daddy/Mommy" Phase. Mainly because I'm often the instrument of conveying that message to their parents ;).

Seriously though, the fun will wear off. She'll realize when the money dries up that she can retreat to someone her age and will leave without a second thought. Whether or not her family will take her back, that's the real mystery.

I can't help but notice what a smug ************ this guy is in the picture. She's absolutely bangin'.

That said, leave 'em to it. Being 18, she's old enough to make her own choices and face her own consequences, and they did both leave the school so they could be together, so I'm guessing they're pretty serious about the sacrifices here.

I mean, he'll never land another teaching job in his life since this has hit the news, and I'm sure he knows that.

So as long as there's no abuse going on, let 'em at it.
I don't think it's morally questionable. It's certainly not traditional or commonplace but there's nothing wrong with it.

Stranger things have happened, and the age difference is nothing to get worked up about; Age-wise, my mom and dad were also 17 years apart. I absolutely believe that love between two people of different age groups is possible, and as long as it conforms with the law I find nothing inappropriate about it.

That said, I very much judge what this man did. If he'd been a single man, fine - but leaving your family for the girl? That's a no-no in my book.

I don't read this as 18 year old moves in with former teacher, I read this as 41 year old man leaves wife and children to be with 18 year old former student.

Which sounds like how my father ended up in a relationship with a student at his school and decided to just throw out my mother after 29 years of marriage. But yeah, I have no respect for people like this to be honest, even if you can call it a 'mid-life crises,' I still feel like there is no excuse.

Of course I'm very much biased on the matter...
