sounds good to me, vietnam is a setting that hasn't been done much (well at least) in games, and i'm sure most people are getting sick of WW2 now. plus i liked WaW so treyarch making it is definately not a bad thing.

AT the moment it is being rumored that Call Of Duty 7 will be in Vietnam, or any wars within that time period (60's - 80's).

REMEMBER this is not FACT its rumored because Treyarch (unfortunately) is licensing Music from the Vietnam wars time frame.

I think Vietnam would be a VERY interesting setting... I'm skeptical about buying the game if it is made though, just because Treyarch is creating it.

What are your thoughts on it?

They'd never do it. Nor do I think they should, particularly. There's more than little distinction between that and the airport level in MW2.

OT: Don't care anymore anyway. If IW having told my kind to fuck off, then Treyarch certainly will as well (assuming they played a role in the stupid decisions made, as well as Activision).

It'd certainly be interesting to see an American company recreate a war that they lost though. I know there's been a 'Nam game before but I think it was pretty shit, and subsequently ignored.
I enjoyed the airport level and thought it greatly contributed to the story line.
Oh right... err... OK?

Haha, I don't have a problem with it either (I've seen but not played). I was just saying that the controversy generated by that was (as usual) rather pointless and a little misinformed.

Doing a reconstruction of My Lai is in a completely different league.

I dont know what i think... i mean, as long as there pulling away from all of that WW II stuff, i think people are getting a little sick of kill Nazis. But there are not that many Vietnam war games out. So it might be worth checking out.

mhmm the war-er, conflict is ripe with material
after seeing what treyarch did with ww2 (very nice gritty dramatic scenes), the ones in vietnam could be even more traumatic lol (and for the record, it's war and both sides were guilty of gruesome acts)

Ok... I hope someone at Treyarch is listening because I think there isn't much interest in a Vietnam FPS. There is some curiosity over whether it will suck or not, and whether it is even possible because of the nature of the conflict (wasn't it an early COD where it was wonderful up until the sniper level?). What I AM hearing is:

1. The cold war has some great material for "Army of One" FPS material. That means everything Agiel7 said above. I agree, that all sounds great and I would love the history lesson along with the geography one.

2. If we do have to play in Vietnam, let us play charley. This isn't out of self hatred (I'm applying to JAG and would be 3rd generation army) but they would be better FPS protagonists.

3. Just give us Zombies! That is what set you apart from IW and every other FPS out there! Ok, so it was a mod, but the story behind its creation [http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/12/03/call-of-duty-nazi-zombie-mode/] was great:

Someone made the Zombie Bunker level on his spare time with the influence of tower defense games. They loved it so much they kept adding features. Eventually they threw it in as a bonus level. We loved it so much you kept throwing us more of it with DLC.

LISTEN UP TREYARCH!!! Don't you understand? That is how the best games are made! People program a game THEY WANT TO PLAY, not a game they think the market will buy. You did just that and it was great. Oh... and keep it with zombies, not VC acting like zombies. The co-op MW2 missions were nice but not nearly as cool as Nazi Zombies.

Another note - I think the second biggest problem with Vietnam games, besides the narrative, was technological boundaries. Until a few years ago FPS's had to be a dude running through tubes like a hamster (which really reminds me of Bioshock). I don't know how they could make a jungle really work. I still don't know. WaW had some decent jungle but it will still feel artificial with rock-hard ferns blocking you.

Man, this is not going to go well. 'Nam's pace was decided mostly by the Vietnamese, because they were fighting a guerilla war against the American military. Any accurate Vietnam game would feature an awful lot of unexpected deaths from people you couldn't possibly have seen. Sounds like fun, right? Hah

(Oh, and dealing with malfunctioning M16s would certainly add an interesting element of tension into things.)

I think it could work. One of the few things that Treyarch actually did well were creating a jungle atmosphere. Sure, it wasn't flawless, but with a little improvement and a zombie survival mode they might be able to make a decent game. MIGHT.

?Eyewitness testimony, Peers Inquiry

Don't be disgusting. Seriously, that's horrific.
Welcome to War.
I don't think THAT is a common sight, even during wartime. I agree, wars are gruesome, but this takes the cake.
in 'normal' wars, people don't shoot babies while their mates stand around laughing...
It's not that it doesn't happen, it's the fact that it is not publicized, and when it is publicized everyone makes a huge fuss out of making it an example. We can be nearly 100% sure that the Nazi's committed obscene crimes against the Jews, but no game designer is going to be dumb enough to show the massacre of innocent children in their game, and unless Treyarch is asking for e-suicide and massive lawsuits, neither are they in their newest title.

Yeah, MW2 has a lot of campers. I've encountered them in Call of Duty 4 but in no way as prevalent like in MW2.

The machine gun is the ONLY effective weapon in WaW. Long range + close range. Also, don't say there are no campers in WaW because that would be a plain out lie.

By the way, ever heard of Left 4 Dead? Yeah, it's a game based around killing zombies. Hint, hint!

They could ask Crytek to help with the jungle, they seem to have a big stiffy for all things green.

this sounds pretty cool, i think it would give more chances for stealth levels because of the fact that you are in jungles. in my opinion the stealth levels were way better than the shoot everyone who doesn't dress like you levels. this idea seems to have a lot of potential and i think i would enjoy playing it. also i don't know much about the Vietnam war so i don't think ill be able to guess whats going to happen next.
I agree on the stealth part very much, from both perspectives.
as for the knowing what will happen... I think most of us do know. but we knew what would happen in WW2 and that didn't stop CoD2 and WaW from being fantastic...

well i didn't really think WaW was that good (but lets not start a flame war over that im just voicing my opinion) but what i meant about not guessing how its gonna end is i don't really know many major battles or events in the war, thats whats probably gonna surprise me. i think we all know how it ended.
