Thats right before call of duty 7 is released another call of duty game is announced, but unexpectedly it will not be made by Infinity Ward the creators who made it globally renowned, with Call of Duty; Call of Duty 2 and call of duty Modern Warefare(2), as one of the greatest First person shooter franchises of all time but by a company that has never developed a game before, Sledgehammer games.

I don't know about anybody else but call of duty is 100% dead to me now, I used to love Call of Duty and Infinity ward, I thought they could do no wrong but it seems that they have fallen apart completely. Are we going to get to the stage where several subsidiaries of Activision are going to be queing up to develop the next call of duty. Without IW the next games are going to seem like a joke. If the series ended at Call of duty 4 then that would be acceptable and everyone could move on LIKE EVERY OTHER GAME FRANCHISE but Call of Duty is just to big of a money maker for Activision to let go of it.

I gave up before MW2. Having seen the wreckage that is BFBC2 (for PC anyway - I understand that the console is quite good), I'm starting to move away from Battlefield.

Currently, hope rests on Planetside 2. But it's SOE. So I'm fairly sure it's a vain hope. What to do, what to do...

Concidering this is Activision, we all know by now that there will be a cod 8,9, and 10 coming within the following 3 years. There's almost no need for them to announce the games. We know they'll be coming either way.

MW2 and Battlefield are connected only in concept (sort of) as far as I know, don't really understand how you made that choice. (Unless of course you mean they're sort of the same and you're getting sick of playing the same game with different 12 year old bitches)

What thats just how much they are going to make in the next 2 years? There will be at least 15. Watch its going to challenge Squarinxe (Spell fuck up) for most games in a series. (Okay I don't count Nintendo.)

I don't much care for Call of Duty, but what Activision is doing with its franchises is almost unacceptable. The same thing is going to happen with Guitar Hero, the same thing has happened with Tony Hawk, oversaturating the market, inspiring many "me too" games and then dying. Tony Hawk inspired so many copycat sports games and many other skateboard games, then it dove off a cliff and is currently on hiatus. Guitar Hero has become a fad like Tony Hawk games did, and it's already begun to oversaturate the market and inspire many similar games.

What's already been seen happening with Band Hero and Guitar Hero: Van Halen is that nobody's buying them anymore, they don't need to, and Guitar Hero will very soon dive off a cliff. That's what I see happening with Call of Duty. People will stop buying it because it will stop evolving, and the market will explode with spin-offs and grab-bag attempts for quick cash and the series will die.

By wreckage he means that BC2's PC gameplay is awful, which it is.

It's not nearly as much of a train wreck as IWnet and Modern Warfare 2, but it's still riddled with bugs, glitching, hackers and an apparent stone wall approach from Dice. Which is a shame because the last BF2 update came out before christmas last year and it was awesome. I hope they're just being slow out of the gate with BC2 as it could be something really quite special if they just made it work properly.

Activision is competing with Nintendo to see who can run their IP into the ground first.

They both passed the finish line a long time ago, but they keep on running anyway.

Ah yes, the infamous 3rd developer, they popped up a few months ago during the Activion vs. IW debacle and then disappeared again...

Should be interesting to see what they do - who knows? Maybe they'll give the series some much-needed new blood. Until I see what they're work results in, I aint going to write them off.

I mean, look at Rock Steady studios; nobody ever heard of them before Arkham Asylum, and now they're one of the most respected developers around!

Yeah, because having franchises that are adored by millions and having games that have sold millions of copies is running into the ground.

OT: Good. I want to see some change, and hopefully it will be good.

As much as I would like to see the continuation of price and soap's cliffhanger at the end of modern warfare 2, I probably won't be getting it. I don't believe in the new developer (although, they can feel free to surprise me) and I have even less faith in activision, which prompts an extra reason not to get it; An unwarranted extra five or even ten pounds onto the price.

Oh, and let's not forget if kotick gets his way, the multiplayer, which by then may become even more of a broken husk of COD4's excellent multiplayer, may have subscription fees added.

Ah, activision. How you love to hate us loving to hate you.

You need to crawl out from under that rock a little more often.
Isn't Infinity Ward still technically kicking around though? I know they're dead in spirit since the huge exodus of workers, but isn't there still a different group of people going by the same name?

OP: Does a bear shit in the woods?

You know that this is a bad sign for any series when you have hit EIGHT games. Unless you plan for some serious changes, pretty soon your games will begin to stagnate.

I'm not expecting anything new from COD now. Even if Sledgehammer have the capacity to do something really cool with the series, I doubt Activision will let them.

It'll be "Make a new COD game ASAP. No, screw that. A better game? Hah...they'll buy it like it is!"

Well if that ENN interview with the Sledgehammer guy is any indication, it could be a pretty hardcore game hehe.

The game will be the beginning of the end for CoD. Treyarch may actually have something good with Black Ops, but afterward it'll be all over.
