Announcing a sequel to a sequel before the first sequel is even out...
Well, Activision has certainly been successful in their search for new depths of lameness to plumb. Now they're manufacturing barrels just so they can have new bottoms to scrape.

Actually I was trying to make the point that Activision is milking the Developer name. One of the things I see a lot when browsing on CoD topics is how IW is supposedly vastly superior to Treyarch. It's only natural the company would want to try and cash in on that popularity as well.
Oh, yeah. That is true. I've never really noticed the difference between IW and Treyarch TBH. All the COD games feel the same to me.

OP how can you possibly say that the COD series is dead to you. Wjhy not make up your mind after you have played it? Everyone seems to think its cool to not give anything new a chance. After MW2 I will be glad to see some things hopefully change.
Does call of duty (8) sound new to you?

IW already had said they weren't going to make anymore CoD games... they said they want to do something new.... i say let them, it's better than using the crap out the name CoD...

I stopped with Call of Duty after World at War. I had some excitement for MW2, but I never bought it. I just didn't care.

Actually, from what I heard (of course I heard it from some of my braindead friends) there are three CoDs in the making; Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3, AND the one being made by Sledgehammer. Even if my friend just made that up, isn't it possible that IW has MW3 in progress, because I personally wouldn't be suprised.

If you read all of the articles about Activision and IW it says that their bonuses were withheld to make sure that they got MW3 completed by November of next year.

move on LIKE EVERY OTHER GAME FRANCHISE
Haha, this is ignorant. I could give you a list of all the franchises that have been milked, but that would take to long. Plus, Call of Duty is the most popular game franchise in the world right now, so why the hell should they stop. More people want to see more games than people who don't, so what smart person in their right mind would cancel the series?

Cod4 was good, five was dissapointing, and I didn't like MW2.

With the decline in quality between MW1 and MW2, I think it could be good to have a new company. Though activision being behind it means I'm still not very optimistic. I'll probably do what I intend to do what Black ops. Wait, and play it at a friends, before I buy.
I think the Difference between MW and MW2 can be said to be the same thing as Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3. The publisher rushed the developer and it caused a bad game to come out of it.

Who knows, maybe after they've squeezed every last drop out of the brands they have, they'll invest in new IP.
lol, so you're saying Tony Hawk hasn't hit rock-bottom yet? They've been milking that brand name for a decade and a half, can anything possibly suck worse than Ride?

Seriously, Activision will shit out a new CoD every year, like clockwork, long after the series has lost any or all of its former luster. Why? Because:

A) They don't come up with new ideas. EVER. Their business model is "Acquire good IP, fire original developer, drive series into the ground, rinse, repeat."
B) Asshats and 8 year olds will continue to buy their product. Map-packs and pre-orders are proof.

Unless Black OPs has some phenomenal multiplayer balance and has a more than 6 hour campaign I have no plans to buy a new CoD ever again. They might as well just call it Call of Duty: '11. I really hate activision.

Activision is competing with Nintendo to see who can run their IP into the ground first.

They both passed the finish line a long time ago, but they keep on running anyway.
Yeah, because having franchises that are adored by millions and having games that have sold millions of copies is running into the ground.

OT: Good. I want to see some change, and hopefully it will be good.

Twilight has millions upon millions of fans and is attempting to single handedly drive literature into the ground. Lady Gaga has sold millions of albums but her music doesn't even feature her voiced before they wash it through about thirty different computers. Point being crap can sell well, but it's still just crap.

it doesent really matter if infinity ward is behind the game or not because there really isnt anything new that anyone can do with this franchise. But since its treyarch it will probably just be some spin off of the multiplayer in MW2 (just like world at war was with cod 4). If there are zombies i think that's the only reason people will buy this game (which i have no idea how that's gonna work with modern weapons, if they have it that is). All i think this game is gonna offer is an average campaign with bland multiplayer

*Girly screams, pulls gun from nowhere, puts in mouth, pulls trigger*

As you can see, I'm less than happy. I liked one and two, never had three, loved four and WoW, but MW2 has the honor of being the only game I hated so much for me to turn in. And I own Shadow the Hedgehog. That's right, I hated MW2 more than Shadow the-freaking-Hedgehog.

I mean, what happened to you, Call of Duty? You where on your best game with Wow and 4, and even your older games where fun as hell to play, if a little played out (such as I've played the Normandy beach landing about five times by now), but at least it was fun and you tried to mix it up. Now we have MW2: Obvious Cash-In: Vietnam: Directed by Micheal Bay, which I can not see as being any fun. I'm sorry, my old friend, but, and I hate saying this about games, but you've gotten too different.

Just by calling it "Modern Warfare" they'll probably get a few sales. But I think most people have now heard about the IW troubles.

What exactly was wrong with BFBC2?

For my friends and I, it's honestly the best FPS out there. And we've been playing them for longer than most people here have been alive.
Long post is long. But you asked, so don't tl;dr me.

1) Lag / latency issues. I live in London, and have a 5 Down / 1 Up line (supposed to be around 10 down, 3 up, but they never deliver what's promised, do they...), and still experience unacceptable levels of lagging, warping, rubberbanding etc.

2) Rubbish hit detection systems. I can stand at 15m and shoot a pellet shotty at a dude who's not moving and is completely unaware of me (love me some sniper-bait), and still not get a hit with a single pellet. I can do the same with an assault rifle, and only hit with 2-3 bullets. And it's got nothing to do with aiming - I've tested it with clanners. Even when you DO get hits (blood spray and hit indicators), it's fairly common that the enemy takes no damage.

3) Very poor weapon balancing. There's a large numbers of weapons that are almost pointless, in comparison to others. There's something like 30 weapons in the game, and something like 75% of weapon usage is made up by 3/4 of 'em!

4) The number of glitches and invisible walls around e.g.:
- Knife bugs that let you sneak up on a dude and knife him four times (unsuccessfully) before he hears you, turns around, fires a CarlG at point blank, kills you and walks away.
- Firing a CarlG at an enemy at point blank and surviving.
- The number of areas on the edge of the map that have invisible walls a sniper can hide behind, but stick the barrel of his gun through, so that he can shoot you, but you can't shoot him. You have to get BEHIND him in order to make a shot!

5) Poor game support for the PC. Consoles have received:
- patches that worked, at least according to the forums (even with more patches, the PC still has significant unsolved bugs... some that DICE insists are solved!)
- DLC for consoles only (they keep promising it for PC, but every time there's a patch, the DLC is still broken, so isn't included)
- New maps and game modes (at the point I have up on BFBC2, there was no indication that this would be made available to PC)

6) DICE is now working on a purchased expansion pack (for Vietnam - WTF - talk about going BACKWARDS). They haven't even finished fixing the INITIAL release, and they're planning on dumping more problems on it!

7) Poor game design decisions. Combining anti-tank and specops was a poor decision. Combining medic and support was a poor decision. Seriously... does it make sense to give a single class the medpack, the resuscitator, and a LMG?? Particularly when one of those LMG's, for MONTHS, was nearly as accurate as a sniper rifle, had a similar range, could equip a x4 scope, AND fired at 600+ RPM with a 100 round ammo box? Balanced? I think not... why else were there so many Rambo's around? And it got even worse on all-infantry maps, where you'd get whole squads of the muppets. Unless you managed to locate and kill the entire squad, they'd just rez behind your lines. And if you spend time looking for 'em, the next all-medic squad would chew your front lines because you're down some guns.

8) Massively poor customer service. My clan roflstomped another clan in a ranked match. Unfortunately for us, one of the EA forum mods was in that clan. Since then we've been harrassed:
- our threads and posts deleted,
- our recruiting posts have been locked for 'TOS violations' - all of which are in other clans threads (incl the clan of the mod that's harrassing us), but no action is ever taken against them. Sometimes, our recruiting threads have been locked for TOS violations that were committed by trolls on our threads, who aren't even part of the clan. And even after reporting the trolls, when we open up a clan thread the next day, the troll is back.
- several of our members got banned for complaining about the above treatment. And because EA links everything to your EA account, those people lost access to the forums, all their EA games etc. We got the bans reversed, because it was clear that this was pure harrassment, but it was a massive headache to get everything sorted out.
- and even after numerous complaints by our members to the customer support lines about the above treatment, with all the examples included, the best they can do is "We'll report the issue to the forum team and they can look at it." And since it's a member of the forum team harrassing us, no action has been taken, and we (at least, those few members who still play BFBC2) are still being harrassed.

Sigh... more unoriginal shooting games for children. I wish for the day when we get timesplitters news and COD is finally old hat.
