However i believe that there is a cure to this addiction.Play not only games that are not mw2 but play the exact opposites and even the rivals to mw2 which are halo, battlefield, killzone2, and gears of war. In fact do not even play a game that has multiplayer of any kind. For example my most favorite singleplayer of any kind has to be bioshock. If you do not rush through bioshock then you will not believe the things you find as you explore through the game and how it connects to the games main storyline. It is a classic unlike mw2.If someone said that video games are not art then you could show them bioshock and they would easily change their mind. If you showed them mw2 they would see a simple boring shooter fest that is nothing new. It is just another war shooter. just make sure it is the first bioshock cause bioshock 2 had online but i heard bioshock infinite will not have online which makes me happy.
Me too. I didn't play much of the Bioshock 2 multi... I like Rapture as a single player experience. Man I played Bioshock to death when it came out, found every audio log and stuff... what a game.

I always play Fallout 3 to calm me down if COD is stressing me.

My experiences with CoD:

1. "Oh, this looks like a good game; and all of my friends play it. I'm gonna buy it."

2. "Best game ever. Best game ever. Best game ever. Best game ever." - Repeat for 3-5 months.

3. "This game is kinda... Not good."

4. "Meh."

5. Stereotypical "I hate MW2!" response to the game.

Although, I sold the game and don't really find the urge to play it anymore. Maybe if sniping and noob-tubing wasn't the only way people played the game I would consider buying it again; but for now I don't see myself getting wrapped up in CoD again anytime soon. Especially with that pay to play nonsense that's been going around.
Hey thats almost how my experience with the game went... almost. Just cut out number 2, and 3 and thats how it went for me.

You summed it up perfectly. Those still aren't good reasons to play though. Once you get good, MW2 becomes the #1 most frustrating experience on the gaming market.

Let's get one thing out of the way first, Infinity Ward does not GIVE A SHIT about the players. They aren't completely retarded, they intentionally made the game completely imbalanced and insanely easy to get lucky scores in. They're appealing to the mass audience by making the average player feel like a pro because they are using imbalanced classes or getting lucky with care packages, or kills with death streaks. They want everyone to feel like a pro and in doing so, eliminate virtually any skill requirements.

Numerous times, Infinity Ward has mentioned that they will do things such as patch One Man Army, fix silencers that don't work, and many other things, and instead, all they do is release map packs with 5 maps for $15 each. The only way I will ever buy an IW game again is if they re-release COD4 with MW2 graphics and get rid of 3x frag, martyrdom, and last stand. That would be the perfect FPS. Just don't let them get their hands on the game mechanics, before you know it they will be adding death streaks that virtually guarantee you a kill, infinite grenade launchers, guns that kill in 2 shots and have 0 recoil/sway, and killstreaks that give you other killstreaks that give you a free 15 kills.

Just go one week without playing MW2 and you will feel all the better for it. You'll realize what a shitty game it is and how unhappy you were playing it. Then you can move on to much better games like Starcraft 2.

VERY interesting topic. I can't say personally, because I don't have Live (and probably never will), but I guess I can sort of understand a few reasons as to why.

1. It is a shooter. It is currently the biggest market in Videogames, I'd say. So, if you release it in Xbox, where the whole console shooter craze began, along with the PS3, which is the 2nd biggest shooter console, you get a comercially succesful game, and the bandwagon makes it that much more appealable.

2. It was the first MODERN shooter. I know, I know, it probably wasn't, but when the rest of the successful shooters out there are WW2 or SciFi shooters, it is kind of unique.

3. The fact that you test your skills against humans is always more entertaining than the computer. Sure, you can probably put it on the hardest difficulty and then have excellent bragging rights, but if you suck at multi, well...

1. The controls are the best on the market
2.The game engine is amazing
3. It's purrty
4. The levelling and stats are like heroin
5. That one match
6. Private Lobbies
I didn't think you could sum it up in six points, but you have. Yet despite all this I still loath it at the moment. Perhaps I just need to give it time.

I keep going back because there's nothing else to play. I don't own every game on the market, and Call of Duty is the one I fall back on.
Exactly, this should all change with Reach or Black Ops coming out soon

I've done that a few times and you're absolutely right. It is like a stressful job or something.

What do you think about Black Ops? You have strong opinions (like mine) on IW but I have faith Treyarch will build a more balanced game. The only things I felt were broken in WAW were the MP40 and tanks (and the hit detection, but that's every COD).

I won't be preordering black ops, I think I'll reserve judgement for when I actually play it. The one thing I can say in Treyarch's defense is that they really do listen to the community.

COD4 was one of the biggest FPS' of all time and they only released 4 new maps for it (for $10) in its whole life span. They never addressed any of the issues with the game (grenade spam, map glitches, gun glitches, etc). It seems like the attitude IW has towards games is that they are finished once the game is released.

Treyarch never anticipated the success of nazi zombies, they even mentioned that it was originally just a side project that wasn't going to be put in the game. They listened to the community's requests for more zombie maps and not only did they provide 3 new zombie maps, but each new map brought a plethora of new features that completely overhauled nazi zombies. By map pack 3, there were demon dogs, alien weapons, monkey bombs, perks machines, teleporters, electricity boxes, and upgraded weapons. Also, each map pack came with 3 regular maps in addition to the zombie map and costed around $7 each.

Treyarch has also responded to numerous suggestions and questions by members of the community and has stated that they will try to make the game "easy to learn and hard to master", among other things.

Black Ops definitely has potential, I just hope Treyarch puts balance/fairness first, and additional features/new content second.

I used to play COD a shit load. Then I bought TF2. Barely touched it since. Its much more fun not having to constantly worry about K/D and killstreaks and actually working towards a goal other than "kill 25 people without dying".
Basicly this. I played Call of Duty 4 like a maniac from day 1 to mid July of 2008. Then I bought the Half-Life Anthology and the Orange box with it's single player nirvana and multiplayer carnage that is Team Fortress 2. Tried to get back in World at War but since my old processor made the Single player loading screens squirm and that the MP just felt like my beloved CoD 4 dated back 70 years so I soon wasn't bothered it anymore.

Then in 2009 of course came my most anticipated game ever and it turned out to be a fucking console port. Played it from day 1 to christmas eve than back to TF2 again.

I will buy Black Ops eventually, my collection demands it, though I will get it as cheap as possible.

The only thing I can really agree on, is that the game plays at a really high framerate. The engine itself otherwise, is made out of mostly low resolution textures, and all grass, rain, smoke, fire and leaves, are 2d.
But as I said in the OP, in my experience a high frame rate is far more immersive and involving than high res textures.
Except that it's not something unique to Call of Duty. Crisis: Warhead runs at about 50 fps on its highest graphics, during a single explosion (the 10000 barrel explosion would probably still cause a crash), Counterstrike: Source runs at roughly 120, Unreal Tournament 3 runs at about 60 as well, as does Far Cry 2.

The frame rate isn't really that amazing when most other big name titles run at around that speed too.

I go back because all my friends play it, frankly. The 60fps thing is kind of negated on PC: You can get any game to run at 60fps if you have a good enough gaming rig. But, sadly, my friends don't play on PC. And the most of them play MW2 most of the time. I have a serious rage problem with that game, but I'm effectively forced to play it due to its' popularity.

The game was fucking fantastic first few days after release before the shitstorm of glitches, overpowered perk combinations, glitches, hacked lobbies and other such asshattery perpetrated by the debris of the gaming community.
