Call of Duty Divided in Two

I have a question.

I'll preface it by saying that although I dont't buy Call of Duty games anymore, finding them pretty tired and uninspiring, I do still want to try them. It's the same way you want to see summer blockbusters, you know they're stupid but you still want to indulge in that stupidity for the sake of fun.

With me and Call of Cuty I would love to indulge in a little over-the-top stupidity and play the single player campaign. As for multipler I could take it or leave it. If I want military multiplayer action I don't need a whole collection of Call of Duties to satisfy that itch. Like I said I don't buy Call of Duty games any more because I don't think it is worth the price, (which for me is $120NZD which is too expensive even when exchange rates are considered.) However I probably would buy the single player component alone if it was, say half the price.

So my question is this: If you don't buy in to Call of Duty any more, (or just don't,) would you be more likely to pay a lesser price for one of its two components? Should sales of Call of Duty include an option to let people buy only one part of it? With digital distribution I'm sure this would be easy enough, (i.e. wouldn't leave the way open for hackers to hack into the multiplayer game after only buying the single player.) I'm sure most would jump on the opportunity to buy the single player alone than the multiplayer so maybe there could be the options to either buy the full game or just the single player. It'd work for me.

Because yeah, I'd love to get into the hype of a poorly-written explosion-laden, (but fun,) single player campaign but there's no way I feel comfortable handing over my money for an unbalanced and samey multiplayer game that I've already played before.

Opinions?

It's been suggested before but shot down, mainly because alot of people rush through the single player then go on forums and complain how it's only 4 hours long. This makes up a large amount of children that play this game and if Activision make it seperately, no-one would buy it.

I think you'll find it's the other way around. Most of my friends haven't even touched the campaign yet.

You do realize how EXTREMELY strong the words no-one are when speaking about a new CoD game, don't you? Are you even aware of how well these games have sold?!

I think it would be neat to be able to buy only one part of the game, but it's not gona happen. I believe primarily cause they know people will buy CoD games anyway, and in unpresidented numbers. They make more money if people have to buy it all, and I guess its a good way to sap 60 EUROs from anyone's pockets (here in Europe anyway, where we eat cheese and crackers for every meal).

Very true, this is how it's gone with most of the late CoDs. It would still be a nice option, to only buy one of the parts, but as I said they make more money when all the multi-player-only poeple buy the entire game (which they all will, considering the massive multi-player craze around CoD these days), and the same for those of us that just want to see where the story goes.

"so, we have the best selling franchise per iteration, IN THE WORLD, millions of copies for ~60USD each, many people just buy the games for MP or SP, so let's give them only the bit they want, cutting our revenue because the number of people that would pay for 1/2 and wouldn't pay full for it is less than 1% of current sales (less than 200,000 people FYI), and the people whom would just take advantage of this to get the MP or SP would cut revenue by (VERY conservative estimate) 5%.(1 in 20 buying it for mainly just the one part seems reasonable)"

frankly, there is no incentive for this more complicated system, more content would just drive up development costs, meaning people would have to pay more for their CoD (bi)annual fix, which could easily more lose sales/revenue than gaining the relatively small segment of game buyers whom don't buy their game.

Buying one component of the game is an interesting concept, but I odn't think it would ever happen. That might make it difficult for companies to make a profit off of a product, unless it is Call of Duty or some other super franchise.

Well, I'd certainly be more interested in paying about £8 (all a roughly 4-6 hour experience is worth in my mind) for a Call of Duty single player game, as I've no intention of touching the multiplayer. They'd obviously be mad to give me the option though. Far more lucrative for them to hope that I cave and pay a ridiculous amount of money, and that seems to be working well for them.

Despite the fact I have no idea what you're talking about in the first paragraph, it seems you just "pwned" me and then said the almost exact same thing I originally posted, in your second paragraph.

What is wrong with you? Do YOU even have any idea what you're talking about?

I personally think CoD 1 and UO and 2 should be remade. Discounting 4:MW, 2 was the last truly good all round CoD game.

Friend, I was agreeing with you... I was agreeing that it would be nice, there is nothing wrong with me besides my many mental illnesses OO. I must have the worst English in the world, seeing as no one is able to understand what I mean by most of my post and COMPLETELY misunderstand me many times.

Better idea. Release single-player installments on a regular release schedule that have a coherent story and gameplay that evolves at least a little bit each time, and a multi-player release that is released only once and has regular, cheap and/or free expansion packs and patches.
But then how would Bobby K print money?
