This would never make it. You might be surprised that not everyone listens to metal. This idea would flop fasted than you can say, "OH SHIT! A TOMATO!" So yeah, maybe they should make a game based off of user ideas, but all metal...just...no. And to whoever said Metallica sucked, they still have more talent than you any day, just remember that.
If by 'talent' you mean 'money', then yes, they have more than everyone on this forum. ;P

Personally, I think this idea is absolute garbage.

The metal that you (as to say, the OP) listen to is a genre that is absurdly repetitive, and the lyrics are boring as hell. Chords are always the same throughout the entire song, and let's face it, I still don't get why people choose to scream like they've got a leech hanging off their throat instead of singing like a normal person (for this reason, despite the fact I don't like them that much, Linkin Park is better band). Even then, I don't get why people choose to listen to them in the first place, IMO.

There's a reason why they're underground - music-wise, they're not very good! If you've heard them once, you've heard them all - it all sounds the same, which is why they aren't very popular compared to other genres. Which leads to this: if they make a GH Metal, it wouldn't sell that much.

The only ones I'd pretty much agree with is Metallica (yes Metallica), Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Ozzy Osbourne.
Translation: "I don't share the OP's taste in music". Really, people? Must we flame someone's selection of music? If you don't like it, stay out or make a suggestion of your own instead of just saying, "That's a crappy idea".

oh PS: try playing some bodom on guitar hero??? ARE YOU GUYS CRAZY!!!!
It wouldn't be as hard as you seem to think. Laiho's good, but it is just standard scales and such played quickly (which translates as some basic hammer-ons and pull-offs in GH/RB terms).

Ah yes, metal on Rockband/Guitar Hero.

I have discussed this many times in the past with various people, and we always end up concluding that the only way you can hope for more metal on those games is via DC.

Also, if you think about it, I am sure that those games have inspired a whole lot of non-musicians to pick up an instrument and give it a go, which I think is brilliant. The offshoot of this is that those people will probably just go buy the latest Guitar Hero Tablature book, and this is not exactly the greatest way to learn.

Relevent to this topic, I vote for more Machine Head. Specifically stuff from Burn My Eyes, Through the Ashes of Empires, and The Blackening.

First off, we can't make Activision do anything. We're a few hundred users versus the millions that are happy with GH as is. Second most of your choices are so obscure that even if they did make such a game that wouldn't include those songs.

Dio.

That is all.
If you were gay as well, I'd make you my man lover.

Dio needs his own music game, not even Guitar hero or Rock Band.

Just..Dio Hero, or Dio Band. Maybe just Dio. I'd buy more then one copy of it, just because it'd be the best music game ever. (Until they put the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers theme into a game.)

ARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH. I hate people sometimes(ok ok focus what am I supposed to be saying here...). Right! First off I'm a metalhead, second "real metal" is late 70's and all 80's metal bands like Sabbath(who created the fucking genre for satans sake!(yeah I said satan not god and I made a double bracket!)), Slayer, Judas Priest, Metallica(they suck now but they were good) and I can go on but I wont. Now myself I do listen to other metal and even other genres, infact I'm a fan of jazz, blues and ska-type music. At the moment I'm listening to tech-death metal. Now in responds to someone who said "I still don't get why people choose to scream like they've got a leech hanging off their throat instead of singing like a normal person (for this reason, despite the fact I don't like them that much, Linkin Park is better band). Even then, I don't get why people choose to listen to them in the first place, IMO."...gtfo! Linkin Park is the worst scum to ever claim to be rock or metal of any classification beyond even that of slipknot and disturbed(Nu-metal scum). If your not absoloutely retarded you'd understand it's a style of singing and it actually takes a lot of talent.

OK GOTTA CALM DOWN. Back on topic, I thank the creator of this thread, it's a good idea. Sadly it will never work. Anyway here are some bands I'd love to see in rockband/guitar hero:

Alestorm
Amon Amarth
Arsis
Arch Enemy
At the Gates
Bloodbath
Death
Ensiferum
Exodus
Iron Maiden
Kreator
Megadeth
Norther
Opeth
Overkill
Slayer
Testament
Wintersun

that's just some of them, a lot are death metal or folk metal.

and to some up my opinion on a couple things:
Nu-metal is crap
Metalcore/Grindcore/all core but some mathcore is crap
Slipknot,Disturbed and other look alike bands such as them are NU-METAL which as I previously said...is crap
now for those of you who will tell me to stop flaming...no I'm stating my opnion, rather aggressivley, don't like it? fuck off

Yeah... because a bunch of unheard of bands with crap guitars and just non stop screaming as vocals will sell real well. -.-;

Why not just cut out activision altogether and get Frets on Fire [http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/]. A free PC game thats entire library is of user made songs. If a song you want is nowhere to be found then make it yourself.
About the first thing, you have no idea what you are talking about. Do you even know what Technical means?
And yes, i have frets on fire, it's not as pleasing because my keyboard can't get the power chords to work, and when i make a song i can't stop until it's perfect, note for note, but that's just me.

Actually I just remembered that there was a story awhile ago I read on the escapist, apperently rockband is allowing users to make tracks as DLC. For a rather large fee of course...but still I sure some formadibly large group of people who want to see metal in the game will start create metal tracks(this is probably too much wishful thinking but whatever).

Tired of sitting through boring crappy songs on your Guitar Hero/Rock Band game, and when the one song you like comes up, it's not even that great? Don't buy the game next time.
Instead, we should try and get Activision to consider making a Guitar Hero: Metal game, and I don't mean metalcore/deathcore i mean REAL METAL. I'm pretty sure with the popularity of the escapist, we would be able to convince Activision to create it.
Only a few things are in our way. If you want a game like this, we need to come up with a plan to get this thread to Activision.
Don't tell me that no one is going to buy it, because i know many people will. Also, change is good, right? So why not try something new, besides this weak Heavy Metal garbage like GH: Metallica?
BIG POINT: I'm not a fan of Plastic Instrument games, but if something new is released, I might just want it.
OH, and please post some bands that you think should be on there. Avoid Nu, -Core, and Grind.
Here's some bands that i think would make a great addition to the game:

x Gorod (Technical Death Metal)
x Psycroptic (Technical Death Metal)
Necrophagist (Technical Death Metal)
Atheist (Technical Death/Thrash)
x Diablo Swing Orchestra (Avant-Garde Metal)
x Hieronymus Bosch (Progressive Death Metal)
x Vintersorg (Progressive Folk Metal)
Finntroll (Folk Metal)
x Nokturnal Mortum (Black Metal)
x Obscura (Technical Death Metal)
x Codeon (Technical Death Metal)
x Symbyosis (Technical Death Metal)
Symphony X (Neoclassical Metal)
x Turisas (Folk Metal)
Children of Bodom (Melodic Death Metal - I really don't like these guys, but they would help the game get sold)
x Artillery (Technical Thrash Metal)
Annihilator (Thrash Metal)
x Coroner (Technical Thrash Metal)
Nevermore (Thrash/Progressive Metal)
Liquid Tension Experiment (Progressive Metal)

By the way, the list was made out of what I think people would like to play, not everything i like. Try to make your lists the same, and comment on the idea of a game like this!

EDIT: I Put an X next to the ones that aren't mainstream.
Well that wouldbe good, I think Kreator or Sodom would be a better choice than Annihilator, but that is just me.

Grind, I think Napalm Death would be the best choice.

Oh and they should do a good NWOBHM band that isnt maiden, maybe saxon, or samson, venom, diamond head?? not sure lol.

I was happy that Mercyful Fate did a song on GH and they had a decent Slayer song, not to mention Iron Maiden and Judas Priest (off top of head) so it isnt complete void of metal (oh and dethklok \m/).

btw you win for putting psycroptic in, it is great to see a band from tasmania australia getting known outside australia. mind you I miss Chalky on vocals.

perzonal war
slipknot (old albums)

but like all bands they have there don't do it songs. and most of the good songs wont be selected because of the parts that would be to hard on (average) drummers. there are enough I am forgetting but this is just a fast recent play list^^

Aside from the fact that yes, I don't like his taste in music, I am also trying to point out that it certainly would not sell very much, hence, 'a crappy idea'. Aiming at a minority of the people who buy music/music games would never be a good idea. Now you want me to make a suggestion of my own? How about: I would leave Guitar Hero to keep at what they are doing, great rock music from all generations. In fact, someone said something about a genre-branching career mode - I'd definitely like to see that happen. There would be untold amounts of replay value in something like that.

Wrong. Anyone can do it actually, and for the record, the 'talent' that you label is what I call 'endurance'. Even then, I just think screaming in a song is horrible and pointless - it really ruins the harmony of a song. Now, the rest of Linkin Park may or may not be the scum of the earth, but the vocalist is absolutely brilliant. Yes he screams, but he isn't heavily reliant on it. This is the reason why Linkin Park have that small silver lining of being better.

I completely agree that a career mode which branches through different styles of music would be bloody awesome. I suspect some styles would be a lot easier than others, at a given difficulty level, but maybe I'd be pleasantly surprised by some country tunes or whatever.

Although I don't like the idea of playing on some cheap plastic instrument, here's what I would want if there would be a Guitar Hero: Death/Thrash Metal.

Bolt Thrower
Carcass
Celtic Frost
Coroner (as a final stage)
Death
Demolition Hammer
Fleshcrawl
Kreator
Legion of the Damned
Napalm Death
Obituary
Sentenced
Skeletonwitch
Tankard
Unleashed
Vader

My short list of songs with great guitar to play along with:

All That Remains - Become the Catalyst
In Flames - Embody the Invisible
KillSwitch Engage - Rose of Sharyn or The Arms of Sorrow
Pantera - Domination and Regular People(Conceit)
Throwdown - Holy Roller
At The Gates - Blinded by Fear and Suicide Nation

..or at least, that would by my list. But the wise and glorious OP has deigned that only certain forms of metal are 'real' metal. And seeing as a couple of those bands on there don't fit in with his elite band of 'real' sub-genres they are evidently not metal. This is obviously true, as of course, metalcore isn't a real genre of metal is it? Oh no of course it isn't, it's just a figment of our imagination.

I'm sorry OP, but deciding that because you dislike a certain sub-genre does not equal the rest of the world seeing eye to eye with you. You are not God of all you survey and have no right to exclude something just because you don't like it. It would be like saying "which console is best, PS3 or Wii, but don't talk about the 360 because it's not a real console". Do you see how close excluding something is to flaming it?

If you want this game to actually work you need to pander to all metalheads, not just ones that agree with you. I dislike all forms of black, folk and most thrash metal, but would not say that it shouldn't appear in the game, as people out there like it, and would certainly not say it isn't real metal.
