Unless your actually homosexual, I'd suggest you DON'T judge people. It'll only bring a stream of crap your way. People don't mean it malicously, so it's alright. They probally just heard it somewhere on TV, or from their parents and picked it up.

There just using it as a quick insult that requires little thought. They're not implying that being gay is an insult. The word itself has lost that meaning in this sense.

Yeah, but its the fact that used in this context, they are using the word gay as a negetive word implying that being gay is wrong. Its the same with when people use the word jew. It technically IS an act of racism or being homophobic. Maybe not intentionally, but it is easy for someone to take offense to this.

And if you are one of the countless, nameless, faceless online gamer types who DON'T CARE about the sensitivity levels of others consider these two options: A. your reaction to being called the racial/gender/sexuality-driven epithet of your claiming, and/or B. just not using it because it needlessly hurts the feelings of someone else.

I stopped caring about people's sensitivity long ago when I realized no one cares about mine. I toughened up, I learned to deal with it, and I learned that the more I asked people to stop the more they did it.

If something offends you make it known, if it doesn't stop grow a backbone and learn to live with it. The rest of us certainly have learned to live with the crap thrown at us in every day life.

Before I wind up on a soapbox preaching the hypocracy behind not using the word gay, and gay people calling their female friends "faghags" (don't deny it, I know too many gay people who do) I'll just say this. If you're offended by people using the word gay with the definition of "lame, weak, or stupid" behind it then I'm offended that you're offended by the evolution of a word into a new venacular.

I actually find it really amusing. I make sure to kill them a few more times just to make them rage harder, 'til they're yelling it at the top of their lungs. I'm busting up laughing, picturing the person sweating and jumping up and down throwing a tantrum like my three year old niece when she's denied having ice cream for breakfast. Maybe if I kill them enough times, they'll damage their Xbox and not be able to play anymore. That'd be bittersweet though, ragers are the spice of voice chat in general.

I try not to use the term but it does slip out every now and then but, I don't other use the word.
Pointing out people on Xbox Live who call everything "gay" is about as much use as trying to put a forest fire out with lighter fluid. It just makes this worse and I don't even bother. Honestly it's the same thing as not liking it when people swear around you. Censoring people is just dumb. If you don't like what someone is saying then don't listen. The only time words like gay, fag, and any other "bad" word is genuinely bad is when someone directs the comment directly at you.

I don't know if it is in my genes, but whatever idk and idc. Oh yeah, I don't actually call people out on it. As a pc gamer I disabled voice chat long ago, but that doesn't stop people who can type.

Trust me, I know.

But having sampled quite a good cross section of online gaming (I even had a Dreamcast) over the years, the 360 audience just seems the most sophomoric. That's not to say that a good cross section of 360 users who see them as an embarrassment; in fact one friend of mine mostly uses the headset just to make the really annoying d-bags cry.

That's to be expected when you have an unmoderated community, however they're setting a bad precedent by letting said d-bags carry on and booting people who have openly gay indications on their profile or not disciplining employees who harass gay employees. It's like MS is trying to take civil rights backwards.
