I bought a DS a little ways back but I haven't gotten much use out of it. Now before I give this handheld to my little sister so she can use it exclusively can anyone recommend a good DS game? I've really wanted to get into a nice handheld RPG for a while, but my only choices seem to be Zelda, Mario or FF games.

Serously... I just wrote a review on Days of Ruin (Nobody is reading it *cries*) saying that it is a good game, but you also may want to check out the castlevania games

Why not try TWEWY? It's by the ame people as the FF games, but as a completely new franchise...
And away from RPGs; Soul Bubbles, Elite Beat Agents and Phoenix Wright are all good bets...

I would recommend Sonic Rush (the first one, not Adventure), Worms Open Warfare 2, and Metroid Prime Pinball is an efficient timesink. Look forward to the upcoming Chrono Trigger remake that should be released in early 2009.

Also worth getting the GBA Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2 - The Lost Age as you can play them on your DS and they are absolute gold as far as RPGs are concerned.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I'll definitely check those games out when I head down to EB later today.

The World Ends With You, Etrian Odyssey, Luminous Arc and Izuna are good for an RPG fix. If you have a DS and don't have Phoenix Wright series and Apollo Justice, you're really missing out.

And out of GBA games, nobody seems to know about Sigma Star Saga. That's an awesome game right there. Right on par with the Golden Sun games as far as fun games go. It was released fairly late in the GBA's life cycle, so that might have something to do with it not being that known.

I recommend Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 or the Pokémon games. Honestly, I probably got more use out of Pokémon Pearl than all other DS games combined.

You should check out Puzzle Quest. Seriously.
I don't own a DS but that game was started there (got mine on Xbox Live). It's addicting as hell and a good RPG too. Don't let the puzzle part fool you. This game is really hard to stop playing.

Ha, ha. I know it sucks when you're getting hit 5 times in a row and you're like "Can I have a turn now please!" But the game doesn't cheat. It just does combos faster so it looks like it's clobbering you. You can do as many combos to it, but just slower. But I've see it miss stuff all the time. And it hoards mana in a stupid way too. What really sucks is when your so close to researching a really hard spell and you miss it by 2 colors. (sorry Puzzle Quester side conversation.)

Advance Wars: Dual Strike is awesome. and i'm sure Dark Conflict is even better.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is pretty good, though the difficulty is like a rollercoaster.
Spectrobes is pretty good, but you have to use the mic a lot so its a bit embarassing.
Pokemon Pearl, Mario Kart DS and Phantom Hourglass are all awesome.
DO NOT get FFCC: Rings of Fates. It could be a great game but your party's AI is wank, ruining the game.

Dude, Elite Beat Agents, hand down. If you're going to play one last game before you give your DS away, you might as well make it a memorable one.

If you want a hard core RPG game that is different than your typical one, get Etrian Odessy. It's turn based and you don't see your party of adventurers while you are in the game world so it's a bit like the old Dragon Quest games. However, you have to draw your own map of the mazes you are exploring in real time using the DS stylus so it's a unique experience. It's also challenging as you won't find health potions scattered around the world. You have to leave the maze and return to the village and buy potions and most other stuff you need. You use raw materials you find in the mazes to have the people in the shop craft stuff for you. This makes you be more strategic than you might be in most dungeon crawlers as you have to try harder to keep your guys alive. You can develop healing powers for some of your guys but it uses mana up.

There is also an Etrian Oddessy II game out now but I haven't tried it yet. I'm still trying to beat the first one.

I haven't played it, but I heard Professor Layton and the curious village is really good (like a puzzle/mystery)
There's Animal Crossing: Wild World if you like the casual stuff (I'M HAVING FUN BUT I DON'T KNOW WHY!!)
Electroplankton is pretty interesting but not much of a game.
Mario Kart DS is awesome
I don't recommend Sonic Rush because I personally hated it.
There's Pokemon Diamond and Pearl if you want (call me a loser 'cus I am, but I clocked 300 hours on it).
Yoshi's island DS is okay but the original is waaay better.
Oh and Warioware touched is one of my favourites, I seriously recommend it.
