I'm a big fan of action-horror (or just plain horror) and haven't seen that many games on the 360. I've played and loved to bits both of the Dead Space games, and I intend to get RE4 HD fairly soon. Other than that can someone recommend me a horror game? Thank you.

EDIT: I've also played both Gears of War's, L4D's, and Bioshocks.

Do you have a PC? Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl and it's sequels are probably some of the best survival/action/horror games out there, in my opinion.

For xbox, I'm assuming you played Bioshock? If you haven't played the first Bioshock, play it.

If your computer can't run Stalker, it can run System Shock, which is basically what Bioshock took inspiration from, but I hear it's a really good game.

Edit: By the way, as long as you have a decent computer, you should be able to play Stalker. My friend doesn't have anything close to a gaming rig, and he's able to run it. Just make sure you install the Stalker Complete Mod to fix a lot of glitches.

Also, I've played both L4D's (mini-rant: they have gone so downhill since absolutely no-one uses headsets online anymore) and Gears of War's, as well as the Bioshock games.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:_Shadow_of_Chernobyl] is an FPS set in The Chernobyl Zone.

I call it action because you shoot people; survival because guns degrade and need to be replaced (plus you need to conserve your ammo sometimes, especially for the better guns); and horror because there are mutants, and I was not expecting them.

It's definitely more action than horror though, so bear that in mind.

Edit: Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnninja'd!

Alan Wake is atmospheric and tense, the story is interesting, but there have been some differing opinions on that one.

I've been thinking of getting Shadow of Chernobyl, but I'm a bit "eh" about Steam since it doesn't update games or their pages past release, and I wasted $20 on both Amnesia: The Dark Descent (which my laptop is too old to run) and Fallout 3 (which my laptop is too new to run).

Also, can't find System Shock on Steam and I'm not sure if I want to mail-order it since it also might not be compatible...

And yes, I have played Bioshock 1 and 2. #1 I've played over 20 times. Yeah, I like Bioshock.

Have you ever played Penumbra?

Also, Which by Mike Inel is a pretty cool freeware game.

Penumbra series and Amnesia, also F.E.A.R. and Doom 3 if you're into cheap scares, Quake 4 sort of comes into this category as well, just not as much.

Trust me, you don't need Steam to update Stalker. There's a fan-made mod called Stalker Complete that is being constantly (well, sorta) updated. It fixes a lot of glitches but leaves almost everything gameplay and story-related alone.

Besides that, there is a HUGE modding community for all three of the Stalker games, and it's easy to mod the game yourself. You can make the game anything you want.

You want to increase your characters endurance so you can carry 2 primary weapons with some spare mags? Done. You want to increase the AI? Done. You don't want to have to worry about armor deteriation? Done.

Seriously, if you think that there should be a Bioshock/Fallout hybrid, this games for you.

Is it worth playing the prequel first? I've been interested in getting the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games for sometime but I've been a bit hesitant because I've heard the difficulty can be a bit crushing at times.

Penumbra, Amnesia, Condemned, Viva Pinata and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Yeah, it's a good game. A shame that the only atmosphere you get to see is woods, woods and even more woods. Also the fact that the camera shows you the enemies kind of takes away the creepy atmosphere, since you stop getting the idea that something may be lurking in the shadows, that the weird figure you just saw behind the tree might be an enemy et cetera.

Still, pretty good game. I'd recommend it as well. Good story, although it needs to remove a few clichés.

How about Limbo? The atmospherically cruel, depressive and unnerving indie physics puzzler. It might be a bit of a jump from the more action oriented titles you've put forward, but I thought it was at least worth the suggestion.

Minecraft. Play legit on hard mode and wander into a natural cave system with the lights off and sound up. The sound of zombies moaning just on the other side of a pitch black room gets me every time.

The Condemned series? I've only played the second one, but I remember it being a fairly decent horror game until the point where symptoms of Indigo Prophecy Syndrome started kick in at full force, and I've heard mostly good things about the first one.
