Tayh, you appear to be moving the goalposts. You call it "reaching for straws" when someone claims that some DRM systems have actually damaged peoples' systems; and then when someone provides examples of exactly that happening, you say "but those don't count." It doesn't matter if it's "since been fixed"; what's relevant is that a company somewhere actually thought it was a good idea to abuse a PAYING CUSTOMER'S system so much that it actually damaged it, all in the impossible quest to stop piracy. And, of course, the pirates once AGAIN have the best user experience, as they don't have to worry about their CD drives getting fried to shit and then being called a pirate by customer support.
Side note: Steam's offline mode is most easily triggered by both saving your user data AND having Steam remember your password. If both are there, you'll probably have no issues going into offline mode, even on a disconnected computer.
