I have seen many threads about what superpowers we would like to have, but in the real comic world, there is rarely a superpowered person who had the choice of what power they wanted, or if they even wanted powers in the first place.
understandably this leaves many wishing they had a normal life, or worse yet, being stuck with powers that leave them worse off than before, The Hulk and The Thing for example.
With this in mind, I ask: What superpower would you want to rid yourself of, and continue living a normal life?
what a difficult and inane question to ask, and ultimately impossible question to answer..
I guess the real question is "What's an interesting power that would seem beneficial in the beginning, but its negative aspects eventually over weigh the positive.." A little verbose I'll grant you.
the original source of this stigma is King Midas... Turning everything he touched to gold.. ended up making gold statues of his children..
Medusa's power caused her to live her life alone (in fact, that was her punishment by the gods - to be alone for the rest of her life).. another interesting "classical" example.
Lots of villains have negatively impacting powers - it tends to lead them to a life of crime to assuage the stigma of the power.. Even some super hero characters have turned to a life of crime to make use of their powers - the X-man Rogue for instance originally was a criminal (maybe not a villain against the x-men, but in many of her origin stories).. the stigma of having no human contact led her to criminal tendencies.. Same sort of deal as Midas.
Spider-man also had a bit of a criminal streak for a while, mainly due to the symbiote influence, but also due to pressures put on him by the media.
So really, every interesting power, and every interesting superhuman character has weaknesses that make them wish they could have a normal life.. If I had to choose one of those I mentioned... I'd probably least like to have Rogues ability. No human contact, and also no shiny gold
