Art is subjective.

There is artistic nudity and there is pornography. It's your opinion of whether there is a line in the middle or if they overlap.
Of course, its all opinion. Its in that subjective sphere of the human mind that I ask, can one see art and pornography as being one at the same time? Or are there purposes too opposed to be reconciled.

No. By definition, pornography can never be art. Pornography is something without artistic merit, or more as we use the term more specifically nowadays, images of sexuality without artistic merit. If it has artistic merit, it's not pornography; it's just art.
Yes, thats exactly what I was thinking. A part of me can't help but feel that's a cultural limitation though. Maybe its only in our traditional western mindset, where sex is something you keep behind the doors, that we find ourselves unable to reconcile porn with art. Maybe.

Makes sense. Actually, on deviantART, they restrict you from posting porn but encourage artistic nudity.

DeviantART strictly prohibits the submission of materials classified as pornographic or obscene. There is no exception to this prohibition.
I guess it depends on what you see. One man might see the metaphorical suicide of the American dream, and another might just see tits. It's all subjective.
this ^ to me is one of the better answers. But what hes refering to is artistic nudity, so of course if done right an image of a nude woman(or man if that floats your boat) can without question be deeemed art. But porn is a whole other matter entirely, though im sure it can be done. I myself have yet to see it done.

Yes it can, and yes it has. Atleast when drawn. Art can also be born. Most old art is naked people. My villa in Assassin's Creed 2 is full of nipples as proof.

If you define art as a stimulus created or arranged to convey an emotion or story, or that elicits an emotional response, then yes, porn is art.

A romantic comedy is a (generally) fictional story created to display love and humour, and they make us laugh (hopefully) and feel warmth. Porn is sort of fictional story - they're really having sex, but I don't think he's really a plumber/gardener - that displays lust and arouses us. Same principle, but different methods and a different emotional response.

I do film for a living, so I end up critiquing the cinematography of it just for the lol factor. I've seen some great quality shoots around though, it's also the most physical art form a lot of people do :3

Could be, it has the potential to be (harharhar). But most are just sleezy and the "actors" don't put any effort in that part at least. That and I must admit I don't watch them very often for mostly that reason, just can't seem to keep my intrest to it.
You could say: "Hey, it's a porn movie, what do you expect?" But that's just the point, if they don't feel the need to rise up to better quality because the expectations are already low, nothing will change. .... Never thought I would write so much about how I feel about porn movies :p

Off topic: If you want to see a good movie about the porn industry, you should watch boogie nights. Good movie.

I was thinking that exact same thing. lol

OP: I'll play along. It's art if you think it is and can qualify it as such.

Saying it's "art" for the sake of argument with no justification doesn't mean squat, tho.

Yes and no. Depends on your mentality as a whole.
If you think sex is sex then no.
If you think sex is a way to make babies then no.
If you think a womens body is beautiful and sex is a physical form of love and passion and is less of an action as it is a dance of two souls then by all means yes.

Well I believe the Human body is beautiful, so Nudity is art, but Pornography is designed to stimulate the hormones in your body to make you want to... well you get it.

While we're on the subject, you guys know that Children can be nude in photos and you're allowed to show it to anyone you want (Providing it's on a Website that allows Nudity at all), no matter what is shown, just so long as they are not doing anything provocative or scandilous? You are allowed to pass it off as being Natural and expressing how beautiful the body is. A definite flaw is present.

Of course I'm not going to post anything here, or anywhere else, BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE ANY! I discovered this yesterday in an art gallery. Heck, An 8 year old is perfectly allowed to stand naked and pose for a painting! Major flaw! If it's on the internet, people will find it, and that is where problems occur.

Calumon: Wow, it's hot outside today.

Perhaps. Yet since we all know 95% of the time everyone is faking it, I would have to go with no. If one of you can find me a porn scene thats real, I will say its art.

Porn is porn. Its not art. Erotic art is art. The difference?
Purpose. Main function of porn is exposure of human bits in suggestive/sexual way, with erotic art the body serves as a form which is further refined through composition, pose, light, texture, etc. Nakedness does not make something porn.

Though there is a great deal of subjectivity to art in the study of aesthetics there is a clear distinction between porn and art. The argument goes that porn has the intent of causing sexual gratification, it therefore becomes instrumental and only has what is know as instrumental value. Aesthetics also claim that art does not share this type of value it has what is called intrinsic value(valuable within itself). This distinction means the two cannot be the same. All art is considered to have this intrinsic value, the notion that porn can be art is almost a contradiction since porn by it's very nature is instrumental.

I've never really thought about it, but it's probably because when I'm watching porn I'm usually busy with others things... ;D

Porn isn't art because it has never set out to be art. Porn is used for one and one thing only. To get your jollies off to.

Art on the other hand...well, someone who is actually artsy will have to tell you that.
90% of all posts on this forum have no reason to be there.

OT: I think Porn can be in some peoples eyes, but certainly not mine.
