Can someone please convince me SWTOR will not be a WoW clone with cutscenes?

I love Star Wars, I loved Kotor, but I cringed when I heard that the "Kotor 3" that I was literally waiting years for was going to be an MMO. I really want to play SWTOR to get that KOTOR experience but I hate most MMO games. Also I don't want to pay $60 for a game and pay $15 monthly the whole time after that.

Frankly I hate most MMO's, I've tried a few of them but I could never get into them, I always hated the idea of having to play a game for months before I could max out my character and actually get to the good stuff. The only MMO I ever liked was Guild Wars because it got you to the good stuff immediately, and GW2 looks like its trying revolutionary things that will actually innovate the entire MMO genre. SWTOR on the other hand seems like the ONLY innovation they're talking about is the introduction of KOTOR/Mass Effect style cutscenes and conversations.

So I'm pretty torn here do I bite the bullet and buy it simply because of my love for KOTOR? Or do I pretend it doesn't exist for the rest of my life?

From what I have heard from beta testers, the gameplay functions exactly like a WoW clone. They don't seem awfully impressed so far.

I'm in the same boat as you. Loved KOTOR, sort of loved KOTOR 2 and was interested in KOTOR 3 and cried when I heard it was an MMO. The only MMO I am interested in after WoW is GW2 just because it looks like it is trying a few new things. If I wanted to play World of Warcraft I'd just play World of Warcraft, not a clone of it.

So my view almost mirrors yours just that I am not going to bother with the KOTOR MMO. I might look into it after release to see if it is actually different seeing as I have not actually played it but I honestly doubt I will buy it.

Same here, except I didn't cried when I heard that they turned KOTOR 3 in a MMO...

Nothing in the world can make me play it, if Bioware want my money they would make KOTOR 3 proper...

Weapons actually hit each other when fighting. Other than that it is WoW with a story. and companions. and ships. and better hats.

There'll probably be a free trial, so why not wait? Better than listening to a bunch of people who have never played it and have no intention to.

Although I've seen plenty of people who've said they were in beta testing who said they pre-ordered as soon as they could.

Why are you asking for people to put you in denial?
Based on what? All the time you've spent playing it? Thanks for trying.

OT: Try darth hater, TOROcast, Mos Eisley Radio, and god knows how many other fan sites. If you can't look at the wealth of stuff that has come out and make a decision then I don't know what to tell you.

Also could people fuck off whining about KotOR 3? I stick to reality when it comes to purchases and there are already enough games that haven't been made way back in the ninetie's to even bother.

Sorry, I can't play devil's advocate. It's a WoW clone with cutscenes.
It's really quite a shame, especially with the scale, history and interesting races of the Star Wars universe, they could have really raised the bar if they'd been allowed to innovate. My guess is that the dev team probably aren't happy with making a WoW clone, but for some reason or another they have to.

I'm another person who would rather have a traditional Knights of the Old Republic. I tried WoW and it couldn't hold me so even with the ability to travel to Coruscant or, Korriban I don't think Old Republic will keep me entertained even if I do force myself to try liking it. I just can't afford to do anything like that and, to share the sentiment of the OP and other posters, I want a single-player, offline experience.

Luckily Bioware is still willing to give me something similar in the form of Mass Effect 3 and, Drew Karpyshyn is working on Revan as I type. I'll take those and hope someone in the future can provide a proper KotOR at some point in the future, even if it's just an HD remake with achievements.

No, based on my friends who've played the beta who've told me "this plays an awful lot like WoW with starships".

But of course, my post was intended as a joke anyway. I'd have thought that obvious from the flippant tone of it, but I guess it's difficult to deliver that over the net. Someone always finds a way to take offense.

I'm suspiious of people on the internet who "totally have the scoop" on something because "they were told by a guy that time" and I will always treat that information as bullshit.

You don't want to play this game. At all. Don't get me wrong, I don't know a thing about the game(other than what I've seen in the trailers), but the fact stands that this is a game that has been developed by Bioware for years. This is KOTOR 3. But you're still not sure if you want it?

I'm sorry, but you have no interest in this game at all. Move on. I, and a whole lot of others, want this game to be good. I know I really do. But the trailers have done no good at all, because it looks like WoW. I suggest that you wait until it is released. It is not worth a pre-order. I mean it's 60 bucks and then 15 a month. That is a lot of money, more than I'm willing to spend on a game that not only looks bad(because I don't like WoW gameplay-wise), but can fail hard in a lot of regards because it's a MMO. The community can be shit, the playerbase might very well get continuously smaller and it can, in the worst case scenario, close down(there's always a chance) and that's 60 bucks down the drain(along with your hopes and dreams).

Egads, stanger number 4300017 from the interwebs doesn't have complete and utter respect for me. How shall I go on?

Again: Joking post that I thought was pretty obvious. You asked. Then I answered. Believe whatever makes your brain happy. It couldn't matter any less to me if I tried. I never claimed to "have the scoop" or be the ancient beholder of some secret bit of info. You asked what I based a (clearly joking) post on and I told you.

If you didn't want to know, stop quoting me so you'll stop showing up in my inbox. We'll probably both be better off that way.

Iunno, mechanics are mechanics. Would any of us say oh I'm NEVER going to play FF7 just cuz it has the same basic mechanics as 1-6? Or ANY sequel just cuz it had the same basic mechanics of the one before it? Or any specific genre, like a TPS, FPS, JRPG, WRPG, why does the fact that 1 mmo has mechanics close to another mmo make it so special when compared to all the other genres and games that share mechanics? If you like KoToR, or Star Wars, then play ToR because the storyline is going to be immersive, awesome, and interesting while the classes and some of the other new things like companions look fun.

Now on the flipside, if youve tried and 100% DONT like current mechanics in WoW, or Rift, or, iunno, a bunch of mmos, then no, you wont like ToR, itll play close to the same, that's true. Personally, I cannot wait for ToR and I'll be actually quite happy that's its going to have gameplay mechanics close to WoW, it'll make it familiar and easier to get into so I can enjoy the story right away and deeper instead of trying to fiddle with figuring out controls and such.

There have been tons of gameplay videos since E3. Did you see them? It's not much of a scoop, nor a stretch, for some people to call this game damn close to a WoW clone.
You mean the videos where characters move? At that point it stops looking like WoW to me.
