I think the problem here started when you said you were on Xbox live.

There are morons on Xbox live?

Thank you, I don't think I would have been able to sleep at night!

That is the most gross generalisation I have ever heard and am appalled by that attitude, I could say the same about the opposite gender.
That is very well true and I understand it was an over generalization but, when is the last time you saw girls yelling at someone just for being different (young, male ect.)
Last month.
ha ha 1 month what rock do you live under? I see way more but even more when it comes to guys it may also be as I am male but the world has not come that far and sexism is still seen. I also meant on xbox but forgot to add.
Oh ok that was IRL, I don't use XboxLive because i dont want to deal with people like that.
I don't have an xbox either, I just hate, hating and guys seem to be more common jerks (but still everyone can be mean, even you :p)
I don't doubt that, I just get very frustrated by "guys are douches" threads when it should be "humans are douches".

Threads like this lead to horrible comments like this:

Speaking from my own, shameful experience, being in the presence of girls puts the male nerd face-to-face with some of his own greatest insecurities. Do that to anyone, and they're almost certain to treat you differently. Do that to someone in a space in which they expect to feel secure and powerful, and they're almost certain to treat you like crap.

Not that that's universally true. I'm sure there's a lot of good old-fashioned prejudice and sexism out there as well.

Not to mention a lot of reasonable, well-adjusted people who would never do that no matter how insecure they felt.

That's odd.

I play L4D with a few girls fairly often. I've never seen them get picked on. At all. Ever.

Granted, my situation differs a little from yours. I am:
(a) in Australia
(b) playing the first L4D, not the second
(c) playing on PC, not XBL

But I don't see why any of those things would make a difference.

Maybe you just happened to get lumped in with a pack of idiots. It happens.
One thing I've definitely noticed is that Australian gamers are either much closer to human beings or at the very least much less vocal. We're polite and respectful, here to enjoy ourselves (though there are definitely exceptions) and the PC definitely improves the attitude of the crowd aswell.
so much for not being biased, but it is truly hard to see it all when our minds are one perspective.

I never saw a server where a girl was treated wrongly.
In fact, I know a lot of gamer girls, and everybody treats them the same.

Then again, I play on steam, and the game I play most is tf2.

Being biased how? Ive noticed when I've played on Australia WoW servers, there is a lower percentage of hostile people. When I moved to American servers to play with friends, there was an increase. My experience with people themselves, regardless of their origins are fairly equal in terms of douche to human ratio. When it comes to gamers however, these hostile people seem to congregate more on American based servers (note this does not make them American but simply living in that region). Similiar I've noticed that these people congregate far more on the Xbox (not sure about other consoles dont have or play them) vs the PC.

It is not biased to quote ones personal experience and Im sure many people would support this via their own experiences.

correct me if I am oversimplifying but what you had said is that Australians are more human than Americans. PC will not change the attitude just the kinds of people who use it that make up the demographic.

If thats what you interpreted them Im a poor writer. What Im saying is people playing on American servers have a lower human to douche ratio than people playing on Australian servers. Same arguement with the PC.

Maybe they're all afraid of girls? I dunno. Don't let them turn you off gaming or anything, they're a shitload of people who are absolutely fine with girl gamers, you just happened to have run into a group of dickheads.

that makes more sense, part of it is it is 3 am and I am very easy to confuse or for me to misinterpret. I have never visited outside of Canada yet but on a lot of gaming sites and PC games it is an international server in fact I have a few in game friends who came from Australia.

Seriously though, people are people. Some people just suck, some people don't.
And thanks to the dickheads online, the good have either stopped playing, have a private server, or have turned into dickheads.
Find some nice people, and try befriend the good ones.
Me, I just turn off voice chat because seriously, 80% of the time it's not worth it.

haha cool, I do agree with you about foreign people being more friendly(in my experience) and most people are good it just depends on the small chance of being stuck with horrible people to ruin an experience.

I don't get these posts. I try to, I really do, but whenever I see a girl making noise over "They were mean to mean to me 'cause I'm a girl playing the vidya games!", I start to bristle and hiss.

I have not once in my entire time spent gaming MMOs and other forms of multiplayer (Competitive or otherwise) seen a girl abused, kicked or harassed. The exception to these being attacks by trolls, who would descend upon anything that sounds vulnerable or even remotely troll-able.

What I have seen aplenty is lone, self proclaimed girls turning playgrounds akin to CoD servers into a hotzone for guys competing in awkward flirting and utterly destroying anyone who might have a negative opinion of the girl, even if it would have been justified.

That, and all the colourful variations of the "MMO Girl" in a guild or party, who will use her feminity* recklessly to get what she thinks she deserves.

So. Yeah. Whenever a girl cries out injustice, I start feeling sorry for everyone trying to comfort them. The vulnerable princess in her castle doesn't really need saving. She's just trying to get your sympathy. **

* this Taffer is uncertain if this is even a word

** this Taffer would like to point out that this is not aimed at the poor thing that made the post, but that it is merely stating its opinion

Except you know, they really where. I see no reason to believe she is lying, and see says the game progressed perfectly hospitable up to the point they discovered she had a set of ovaries rather then the testicles they assumed.

Your opinion here is quite flawed and devoid of logical thinking, and part of the same bias that makes people act the way they did in the game. You seem to be forming a very negative image of girl gamers because of past experience, which is in turn going to color your future experiences with them.

Anah said:

You have to realize going into situations with that chip on your shoulder is just going to make them turn out exactly how you thought they would in the first place. You only notice those situations for the same reason so many girls will cry out injustice anytime a guy hits on them, because they focus on the negative experiences and neglect to remember the 50 perfectly normal experience in-between each negative one.

Oh and if you want to know if a word is spelled correctly, or used correctly try using this great online resource [http://dictionary.reference.com/]. You can even add their search to your browser.
