I know similar topics have been posted before but hear me out first.

Here are the release dates for major exclusives coming out for the PS3 compared to those for the 360.

SOCOM: Confrontation (Sept 2008)
Fracture (October 2008)
Little Big Planet (October 2008)
Motorstorm: Pacific Rim (October 2008)
Resistance 2 (November 2008)
WipEout HD (TBA 2008)
Killzone 2 (Feb 2009)
Final Fantasy XIII (TBA 2009)
Gran Turismo 5 (TBA 2009)
White Knight Story (TBA 2009)
God of War 3 (TBA 2009)

vs. The 360 Lineup

Hei$t (Aug 2008)
Tales of Vesperia (Aug 2008)
Infinite Undiscovery (Sep 2008)
Tiberium (Sep 2008)
Fable 2 (Otc 2008)
Halo Wars (Oct 2008)
Gears of War 2 (Nov 2008)
Left 4 Dead (Nov 2008)
Alan Wake (TBA 2009)
Mass Effect 2 (TBA 2009)
Star Ocean: The Last Hope (TBA 2009)

Now, given these exclusives and given the core audience of each system, keeping in mind that the 360 seems to have snagged the Squeenix/Namco RPG exclusives that the PS2 used to get in the last generation. Keep in mind that I did not reference some of the more obscure, unknown titles on the PS3 or the 360, only major releases from major companies.

Can the PS3 build up enough momentum to surivive 2009 or is Sony only staving off the inevitable?

(Feel free to let me know if I missed any games, Exclusives only, no cross platform games)

Infinite Undiscovery is a timed exclusive. Don't be surprised if Star Ocean 4 makes its way to the PS3 just like Eternal Sonata. There have been a few new RPG's for the PS2 and then there are games like Disgaea 3, and FFXIII to think about. So please Microsoft has not snagged much of anything at all, I don't really know where all of this "ZOMG Sony is Losing the RPG exclusives!!" is coming from; compared to FFIII alone no one cares about these other series outside of Japan and the Japanese are probably not going to just go buy 360's for these games when the last major RPG release on the 360 made it's way to the PS3 and the most high profile JRPG on that list other than SO is known to be a timed exclusive.

oh god, don't start this again!

How is this argument valid in 2009?

there aren't that many games that we know of that either have a definite release date in 2009 or just somewhere in 2009.

You're list just shows 5 games for the PS3 that will be released in 2009, and OMG 3 games for the Xbox360. OH NOEZ, the PS3 will totally not survive 2009 with 5 possible releases in the year, all possibly spread out through the course of the year.

I agree with TheNecroswanson, Sony usually works longer on games to make them (usually) better, and M$ tries to rush them (most of the time).

This whole argument is pointless, as there is no argument to begin with. Sorry if i'm sounding pissy, but i'm very annoyed with these threads saying "Will the PS3 survive?" or "PS3 has no exclusives!" just please, stop it....for the children.

I was actually looking more at the quality/hype regarding the various titles in the rosters and wondering whether people thought the quality of the PS3's exclusives would be enough to keep it moving.

You know what I think? I think the SEGA Dreamcast is going to make a comeback. C'mon man, it's gonna happen! The mod community for it is outstanding and there's like...1/2 a million sitting in a warehouse somewhere. And they're all free!

I think that about half the games you listed as 360 exclusives are also being released on PC (although some will be delayed a bit). It's not really an exclusive unless it's actually exclusive is it?

wrong, emulation is emulation, you are tricking the software into thinking it's running on different hardware. sides most emulators aren't officially released or supported and have questionable legal status at best

Is this the free Dreamcast give away??
No, this is an intervention.
Did you give away all the Dreamcasts?
No, that was just a lie to get you to come here today. We want you to si-
Can I have yours?

So, it's exclusive if we put on blinders and hum to ourselves pretending computers do not exist?

The emulation argument has already been properly dispatched.

Dreamcast is still technically alive actually, at least for some top down style shooters. I personally wish that Microsoft focused it's RPG offensive on getting Western RPG's like The Witcher onto it's console because it is going to take a complete hardware redesign to have any chance of really cracking the Japanese market. It would also help to spend money on building first and second party support for their console. I'm getting tired of seeing so many "Me too" releases for this console. This whole offensive does nothing to alter the brand image problem that they have right now. Building up a diverse stable of first and second party titles would. They do not need Jrpg's that people know to be Sony franchises (rightly or wrongly.) They need games like Jade Empire, KOTOR, they need games that are not going to end up on a PC. They need to make sure that games like DOA and NG don't get perfected versions on other consoles. (In other words they would be stupid to not buy off Itagaki and as many Team Ninja members as possible.)

My 360 has been getting love lately why? Because I have a game for it that I can reasonably expect won't be on my prefered console or PC any time soon in NG2. I'm actually looking forward to August because I want to try out Too Human. But for an overwhelming number of games I might be even remotely interested in on the 360 I have no reasonable expectation that there won't be a better release on the PS3 or PC. That problem does not exist on either of the other consoles for one reason or another.

Microsoft has enjoyed an advantage in part because so many people don't understand that the features they love so much on the 360 have nothing to do with Xbox Live itself and are just properties of the operating system. If Sony ever gets off it's ass and gives people voice chat and text messaging while inside any game, there will be nothing left that Microsoft can claim as a meaningful advantage over their direct competitor in the online arena.(This looks like it will happen soon.)

Ironically Sony has a simillar problem with their handheld in that they don't quite have enough in the way of brand power to truly dethrone Nintendo which just holds an absolute dominion over that market.

*long.exasperated.sigh*

all consoles have merit for different people, i own a 360 and a wii, my brother owns a 360 and a ps3, my cousin owns a wii and a ps3, there's enough unique content on each to cater for everyone. none of them are going to "lose" because there's nothing to lose.
"cunsul-wurzs" and all that lies therein was coined by the damn official magazines to stir up the old "your either agreeing with us or one of them" adage to rally people to pointless fanboy rages over a nonexistent problem. its all just to stir up a fervor to generate sales and brand loyalty, just as much as those damn psp squirrels, or old people playing wii sports or people setting up a 360 t a train station and having people play it instead of steal it.
This topic is a horse thats been beaten into a fine cloud of paste and "matter", theres no winner or loser, numbers of shifted units will vary for ech depending on seasonal events and games being released, just because you dont like something doesn't mean it will not "survive", i think the ps3 lineup is mediocre right now, but thats one gamers view out of millions who do like the lineup, its different strokes for different folks dude and taking enjoyment out of the possibility of one of the big 3 consoles failing is pointless and stupid, that just means less variety, just as sony wouldn't pick up half the games nintendo does, Microsoft wouldn't pick up every game sony would either.

and for the record i prefer the dreamcast over all 3.
