oh, here goes a piece of my soul. damn my weakness for posting.

PS3 has sold 13million units, xbox 360 19million. I'd say both have healthy markets for their games. In fact most of the games are coming to both, the exclusives on each are no real surprises.

And you left out Buzz! Quiz TV, likely to be big in Europe, which is probably PS3's strongest market.

Also, is the PS3 in a "rut" or something? I know this thread doesn't have any "bad intentions" but, I've noticed the PS3 is the new PC - everyone thinks it is doing badly, but it isn't, everyone thinks it's a horrible system and isn't worth the money, but it isn't. Is the PS3 on the verge of death now? Hence why we are asking if it will "survive"?

I just don't see why the PS3 gets so much of this, I mean, most of the systems had a bad launch, but it looks like the PS3's bad launch just stuck with it =\
Well it IS living up to the 120 million selling PS2 not 20 million cube/xbox and the whole killzone 2005 trailer and stuff

As a extremely dedicated Xbox 360 player it's my job to stop people from buy that large peace of black plastic that this bored is about.
Firstly, it's to dam exspencive. No one wants to buy something that costs nearly $1000 australian, esspecially when the graphical power is only a tiny bit than a 360 (which now costs HALF of what a PS3 cost)
Secondly, ALL the good games (all three of them) availible on this overly high tech box require a patch that has to be downloaded just so it can be played smoothly. this is a problem which shouldnt even exist but yet it does.
THREE, the installation. Sony has jammed a PC like problem and forced us to install upto 20 gigs on wat evr on the console, taking up an unnecessary amount of precious memory. JUST DON'T DO IT!
And finally, the power consumption. Most people dont even think about this last one, but i do. The Wii uses very little power making it the most 'green' console availible. the 360 uses the same amount of power the original one used, which is the same as you average HD DVD player. The PS3 on the otherhand uses roughly the same amount of power as two large meat freezers... Ok, i'm sorry... it's more like one large meat freezer. This may not matter to you, but just wait to you see the power bill.
And not to mention it was brought out way to late, right when the 360 had a huge sale record.

You were warned.
I felt dirty after reading that.

Sony did pretty much everything wrong this time, but they can limp through this generation, much like nintendo did w/ the gamecube. If they fuck up again, though, they're toast a la Sega.
Yeh, this is what I think as well. I mean, OP, really, let these types of threads die. They serve no other purpose then to aggravate fanboys. Just accept that you'll buy a console for the games you like, and someone else will buy a console because of the games they like. Don't worry about which console will 'win', just which one has the most games you like.

It's funny that that list in the OP was used as some kind of criticism of the PS3. Many of those exclusives sell like free Ferraris. I'd conclude from that list that the PS3 will soon hit its stride and might come out of this race solidly, or even second to the Wii when you consider other factors.

Mate to be honest this is a stupid argument. The PS3 is obviously going to survive. I see you missed out exclusives that have already been released for PS3 such as MGS4 and Uncharted which are both brilliant games and let's not forget that there will be many people buying PS3's and buying the older exclusives as well as the newer ones, it's not always new games that keep consoles going you know!

There are fewer decent PS3 exclusives but I would argue (as an ex 360 gamer) that the quality of the these exclusives is better. I much prefer MGS4, Final Fantasy and Uncharted to the copies of Halo 3, Mass Effect and Gears of War that I used to own. And there will be a lot of people who agree and disagree with me meaning that both consoles will continue to do well based on their exclusives. Don't forget some people decide not only on games but also on technology and the PS3 wins hands down with its Blu-Ray capabilities making it much more future proof than the 360. The 360 has better online play so more multiplayer oriented gamers will probably plump for 360. The PS3 is selling more than the 360 now but that will probably make up for all the months that 360 has outsold PS3. It's swings and roundabouts mate they're both fairly evenly matched and I can see both surviving but ultimately the 360's technical limitations will mean that the sequel to it will have to arrive before the sequel to PS3.

It took a year for the PS2 to take off and came to a peak in 2004\5. *Message me for a list of games*
I think the PS3 just needs some time. Until then I've got my Pc. :)

Anti-Santa you're quite clearly an Xbox fanboy. Look mate I had a 360 for 18 months and loved it, until it broke on me and I refused to pay MS to repair it. So I scrapped it and bought a PS3. You talk about the PS3 being expensive. Right fair enough it is slightly more expensive than the 360 Elite but you don't need to buy a wireless adapter and year's subscription just to get online with the PS3. Okay Xbox Live is a better online service, when it works. I frequently encountered errors using Xbox Live especially around the Festive season when too many people got online and lagged out the system meaning existing customers couldn't get online for all the new people signing up. And they compensated me not being able to play COD4 properly for 4 days with a shitty free arcade game that I couldn't even choose!

Added to that, back in the day (when that ill-fated format was still around) you had to buy a external HD-DVD drive to watch HD movies on your console! What the hell is that about?! Luckily for you Blu-ray is a superior format and is already enabled for playback straight out of the box on PS3.

And power usage? Are you expected to be taken seriously when you compare the PS3's power usage to that of a meat freezer? Think you should go smoke some more of whatever you're smoking mate, you're off your nut.

Dude, even as sarcasm this was bad.

There's not even one valid fact in this whole ramblomatic speech of yours.

And what was the point of that last sentence?
edit: hmmm, little late...

What is the point in this arguement? So what if you like one console better than the other? Why endlessly chip away at the oposing consoles reputation in the hope that one day you've completely eroded a console to nothing? In the hope that you've damaged the consoles name enough to make everyone think your somewhat clever for your intelligent choice of gaming platforms and exalt yourself as a connoirsoir in this buisness genre?

If you love your console so much that you feel the need to protect it from outside threat, then I think you need to get out more. Other consoles are not a threat, this gaming generation is incredibly balanced and other consoles should be considered healthy competition to keep your favourite developers working hard; to out do their competitiors. IT MAKES WHAT YOU LIKE IN A CONSOLE IMPROVE, DON'T YOU THINK XBOX OR PS3 WOULD GET LAZY IF THEY HAD NO COMPETITION? This matter is trivial and pointless but if you really need to slate the other console so much or defend it, do it without the malicious intent towards the consoles, they are all great.

(I didn't include wii above because I think most people can appreciate the artistic finesse Nintendo has presented this generation but I think its more to do with how you can either afford a ps3 and a wii or a xbox and a wii. As well its a different console all together which doesn't really compete with the other two.)

The PS3 ain't going anywhere! The Japanese market could probably afford to buoy it alone. It's the X360 I'm more worried about. I've got nothing against the PS3, I just prefer the lineup on the 360. However I must admit since the superior marketing of Sony (and ignorant Playstation fanboy fvcktards) bought about the demise of my beloved Dreamcast, I get a bit nervy when I choose a non-Sony platform as my console of preference.

To be honest, unlike with the PS2, there are no exclusive games that have grabbed me by the bollocks and convinced me I need one; but I'm sure Sony can survive without me ;-)

Just to touch on a subject earlier in this thread about PS3 being bad for the environment because it eats up alot of power; actually it's the most Gree-Friendly of the 3 consoles with the Wii being the worst. It was on a site somewhere, all over the news, forgot the site but the Wii scored a whoping 0/10 on the Green scale and the Ps3 got (i think) a 7.5/10. just wanted to touch on that.

Also, for people complaining that the PS3 is overpriced you should complain that the PS3 is UNDERpriced. I'm pretty sure that most of you know that Sony has apparantly lost $3.3 billion in 2007 because of the pricing of the PS3; Partly because it was too high for the consumer (at first) and partly because they priced it MUCH LOWER than the actul production cost. You all should be thankful that Sony priced the PS3 at $400-$600 because it probably costs $1200 or more to make just ONE of those consoles.

But yeah, just wanted to chip that in.

Let us never speak in or of this thread again.

I love how early in each console war we get fanboys who jump out of their mother's basement and start judging it right from the start. We have barely started on this generation and yet we already say who might win, come on. You think I'm kidding check this out Wii sales are in the high 20m range right well the flop of the century the psp has sold 35m roughly so.... if the wii is such a success how come it hasnt already outsold the psp

about 1 year or more head start? and the Wii and PSP are in different classes.
