Can Videogames Make You Cry?

Yeah, I've cried over videogames. Not many, but MGS1 and the Sniper Wolf duel spring to mind. Others include ME, of course, and some parts of FF VII, VIII and IX.

I think if a game's writing is good enough, there's no reason you shouldn't cry over it, and of course the voice acting can't ruin it. (This is why things like FFX never affected me, or that Crisis Core ending, which by the way, most inappropriat music ever.)

Never cried at a video game. Only ones that have made me have any glimmer of sadness was the end of Twilight Princess, the end of Roach's last level on Modern Warfare 2. Just the shock of it all. Also the pivotal moment of The Gulag made me very, very happy. Nearly went crazy with Halo 3...just because the campaign was so BORING!

Only once. It was while playing MagaMan X during the fight with Sigma when
Zero broke out of the cage he was in and destroyed Sigma's armored carrier to give you a chance to break free of Sigma's electrical bonds, causing his (Zero's) own death in the process. I fucking loved Zero
Except that wasn't Sigma...
Really? Which cahracter was that?

I get choked up with tears at the end of a lot of games, some because I was young, others because the music was just *that* heartwrenching.

On the youth front, the end of Majora's Mask where Link and the Skull Kid become friends made me tear up and at the time I had difficulty having friends acknowledge me at school.

On the cusp, Skies of Arcadia's ending was also a tear-jerker because of that beautiful piece they used for the end credits. Even hearing the song along dries my throat a little bit and fills me with nostalgia.

When I first beat Persona 4 I bawled not because the ending was sad, but I was finally at the end of the game and having the real credits roll and everything about it just made me feel so elated that I had to shed a couple tears. That, and I was in a dark room and my screen turned to an eye-bleeding orange.

Baten Kaitos didn't really have any moments to get worked up about, but in the sequel/prequel Baten Kaitos Origins, there's a couple moments that also had me in tears, purely for the drama rather than the relief of finishing a game off and being treated with happy, smarmy end credits.

You can go ahead and call me a crybaby for getting all emotional when I finish a game, but considering all the long (and sometimes frustratingly difficult) RPGs I get myself involved with, seeing the end just feels so good. However, I don't think I've ever had a game that made me tear up quite as much as say, Up. On the other hand, I don't recall crying over events in a book.

Oh yeah. Well, keep my original statement, but replace the word "Sigma" with "Vile"

I cried at the ending of Wind Waker (I know, right?) and at a certain Mass Effect choice right before the final battle. I won't elaborate, since I guess those aren't past the spoiler statute of limitations.

I have never cried because a moment was too incredibly sad (IE: Aeirth dying) but I have cried from a video game moment being so incredibly heart warming that I couldn't help but be touched in the most benevolent way possible (IE: Chrono is revived in Chrono Trigger).

A notable exception is the "I miss you Hal" part of Metal Gear Solid 2. The backstory behind the "Hal" thing and your attachment to "Hal" makes hearing that line so incredibly, powerfully, sorrowful that I couldn't help but burst into tears along with "Hal".

Planescape Torment did it for me; imho the most brilliant fantasy story of the last decades, that just happened to be published in the shape of a videogame. the story is better then anything else i encountered in my 18 years of gaming. extremely dark setting though, not everyones taste.

there are several possible endings, the BEST one being that your existence ends entirely and your loved one and your friends die :-/
