Not that I like Twilight, but it's kinda funny to watch people argue that one orientation of fantasy is "right." Can anybody say missing the point?

Wait. Wait wait wait wait wait. I am sorry. Did you say you want Blade vampires back? Blade vampires are a fucking joke... My god. If that is your idea of a "good" vampire then there is no hope for you at all. Go play some Legacy of Kain then you will be allowed to speak to me.
Ah yes, Legacy of Kain, that's one series which should have more games.

Until Twilight came out, I had no desire to write a slash-fic, or ANY fan-fic at all, really.

So far, the only real line I thought of is for the ugly, murderous (yet written as the hero) vampire hunter.

"I'm going to smack the sparkle right off you, pretty-boy."

You're gonna have to either ride it out like the rest of us, or write a vampire novel so epic it shakes the very foundations of this shithole we call Reality.

Also, 30 Days of Night.
Are you saying 30 days of night? When I watched it I thought it was terrible. The only good vampire movie I've is Bram Stokers Dracula. The underworld movies were cool, but they weren't really vampire movies in my mind.

Yeah, as long as teen girls have thier stranglehold on the gayvampire love stories, it aint happening (however, vampire diaries is based on a book written BEFORE twilight, so it is actually decent)

Edit: let me clarify, by gay vampire love stories, i mean that Edward is symbolic of a gay man, something apparently desired by a large number of teenage girls.

Essentially, all the vampires are gay, and meyer just decided to make them love a suicidal freak in order to appeal to her fan base.

Your argument is conclusive - gay vampire women are lesbians. Which is a good thing.

Don't diss Tweens. They can get shit done. They made Twilight: New Moon have the bests opening weekend EVER. We should be sending them to Iraq!

More twilight ranting? Cry me a river why don't ya. This is getting old.
I'm with Aura Guardian here. As much as I hate the phrase 'Use the search bar!' and any sarcasm related to such phrase, I'm starting to find merit in it once again. This topic was definately covered last week, as well as the week before and probably the week before that as well, we do not need it any more.

I find it ironic as well that people seem to think that there are real forms of fictional creatures. Seeing as zombies have all of a sudden changed from living dead to infected over the years and that there has always been different ways of depicting vampires, I don't view there as being boundaries set in stone about the topic.

As for good stories, that depends entirely on opinion. If you don't like it, don't read/ watch it and go read/ watch something else. Stephanie Meyer never wrote the book aiming it at the majority of people on The Escapist (majority of whom are 18-22ish and male, I think), even you [the OP] acknowledge this by saying '13 year old fanfiction', and people widely acknowledge it is aimed at teen girls -- I'm assuming you're above the age of 13, but your profile doesn't mention it so I could be wrong, but your gender mentioned definately says male.

What is a vampire? A miserable little pile of... wait a minute, there's a thought...

How come Castlevania's Dracula never gets brought up in these "real vampire" discussions, eh? Hell, he's badass and all; he stands at least ten feet tall, casts fire from his cloak, can transform into various forms including demons and swarms of bats, can change his appearance Doctor Who style, and even made Death his *****. Why can't he be the best vampire archetype, eh? (half sarcastic)

In all seriousness, it's been made pretty clear that this thread is redundant: Twilight sucks, we all know that; not everyone has the same view of what vampires should be like, and so life goes on, nothing has changed. The sparkling is undeniably fucking stupid though, but that's hardly the biggest problem.
Me? Im'ma stick with the monster who does not belong in this world. Good day.

I don't say either is right or wrong. Just that Twilight is so lame it hurts my brain.

Oh ya Twilight is pure testicular cancer on a plate. But people that hate it for pretty dumb reasons like that are equally annoying to me.

I agree wholeheartedly. It's worth remembering also that most "serious" vampire fiction writers have come back and basically said "yeah, her vampires are different, but she's writing for a different audience, and has a different concept of vampirism. So what?"

I'm going to use an image to sum up my opinion of this highly controvertial issue

I'm talking old school!

Seriously, how did it come away from that? Vampires are demons that stalk the night, seducing inocent women so as to drink their blood! Not get inside their underpants. Even Leslie Neislen's Dracula is better than the Emo twat's we're seeing now.
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, here is Leslie Neilsen's Dracula

i would love to see a good old vampire movie once again. i honestly miss Blade. vampires used to be one of the most bad-ass creatures of cinema...and now there destroyed by terrible 13 year old fan fiction. can we start a counter-revolution before this new crappy vampire trend gets far to worse to control?
As much as I hate to admit it, America no longer looks at vampires as horrific creatures of the night, but as epitomes of everything we want to be. Arguably, our embrace of mainstream movies encouraged this. Allow me to trace (recent) the history (with apologies for the block of text):

Despite the Stoker-esque qualities to 'Interview With a Vampire,' people couldn't get past how hot Tom Cruise was. 'Blade' was an ACTION/horror flick that substituted 'vampires' for 'super-villains.' Coinciding with that, we had 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer's' sexualization of the vampire through drama revolving around a sympathetic female protagonist. That's damned important. 'Ven Helsing' attracted a healthy staple of ladies with Hugh Jackman. 'Underworld' continues to dominate with its style-over-content approach. The death knell? 'Supernatural.' While not focusing on vampires, the show stars two handsome men in rather successful attempt to attract a female audience to a horror show.

Most sci-fi action junkies saw these. Hell, I remember girls raving more about Underworld than I was.

As much as I hate to argue it, our dollars sowed the seeds of 'Twilight.'

The other MAJOR problem with the vampire as a badass is that Hollywood has traditionally depicted the vampire as a sexual deviant. Check out the Dracula movies with Bela Lugosi, Frank Langella, and Gary Oldman. Highly sexualized. The only thing separating these from Twilight is that each of these movies took the time to show the ghastly consequences of vampirism/sexual deviancy.

To answer your question though: Yes. Yes, we can start a countermovement. We are the only things standing in the way. My recommendation:

Boycott what DOES NOT conform to your escapist interests and patronize what DOES.

Most importantly, produce (write/draw/direct/compose/etc.) what you want to see and experience, AND DO SO WELL. Chances are, we want the same things. A no-prize says that was Stephanie Meyer's approach.

...Except for the 'and do so well' part. She kinda failed on that front.

you know.... since i know this isn't going to happen... it might be easier to get some better actors in the movies being made now. only problem is that the only reason Pattinson is in the twilight movies is the fanbase he has going, cause it is not cause of the acting thats for DAMN sure.

oh well... i think i might be able to convince him to leave

*leaves to get a chainsaw*
I hate twilight, but i have to defend patterson here. If youll read quotes from him, he HATES TWILIGHT, and most especially THE CHARACTER HE PLAYS. He has openly said he plays it terrible on purpose. :) he was.. okay... in HP.
