Can we give the new Call of Duty a chance?

If I was more into multiplayer, I certainly would. TotalBiscuit's demo of it shows a much bolder change in the game's style than all of the previous iterations. Unfortunately, I'm more into single player, and it's no secret that Call of Duty is multiplayer first and single player second.

By now, hating a new Call of Duty game before it even releases is becoming an internet tradition. The rationale behind it is, it's not about the game, it's about what it represents: another annual shooter, bland in every way yet still a system seller.

But this one actually looks different.

This is, after all, from Treyarch, aka the company that's actually trying to change things every once in a while. Black Ops 2 might not have been that good, but it was trying as hard as it could to come up with something new, and this one looks to be trying even harder. After the brown note of COD Ghosts, people were rightfully disappointed, but I hope people realize that Infinity Ward was to blame, and that this doesn't stop them from giving CODAW a fair trial.

I could be wrong, of course. It might just be the same as every other COD game. But with this one, I just think we should give it a chance. This series might actually be growing in an interesting way, and I'd hate to see it smothered for the wrong reasons and revert to old habits (like Saw 6.)
I hate CoD because of it's casual game mechanics. It allows casual gamers to escape the reality of paying your dues and getting pwned by your superiors. Quake, UT, and Halo forced casuals to either get better or lose forever which is how it fucking should be. I hate CoD because it took away the rights of competitive gamers to pwn those worse than them. Unless CoD becomes a arena shooter where the most skilled will always win and everyone else is their ***** I will never support CoD and I will do everything in my purchasing power to make sure CoD sooner or later fades away to obscurity.
Wow, that is the most petty thing I have ever heard. Hating a game because it is more easily accessible to other people is the epitome of entitlement. The enjoyment of others makes you furious, and that's quite sad.

This Circlejerk is really stupid to be honest.
Oh no, call of duty games are similar, there isn't any other games such as pokemon or mario that have been doing the same thing for 20 years.
Okay, I'm going to draw the line here. If you really say that there's as little difference between the oldest and newest CoD as there is between Donkey Kong (or Super Mario 1, if you want to get picky) and Mario 3D world, that just isn't going to fly.

If I play, I except a story more complicated than one concocted by toddlers in a sandbox. And when I saw words "Private Military Company"...

Oh gosh, I wonder where this plot is gonna go. Truly, Sledgehammer Games is breaking new ideas like no-one before! Seriously, was anyone surprised at the so-called "plot twist"? For frags sake, the CoD series is already the Ur example in generic shooter territory with its game play, would it kill them to at least shake things around in the story section? The story is not quite as pandering as the one in Ghosts, but that's really not saying much.

If that accessibility comes at the cost of those who spent thousands of hours of their lives getting good at a competitive level have nothing to show for their blood, sweat, and tears then it's wrong. Those who put work and effort into something are more entitled to "fun" than those who spend maybe 1-3 hours a week. That's common fucking sense and can't be argued. You would feel the same way if a new employee at your job made more than you and got more benefits, just because it "accessible".

Years of gaming down the toilet because casuals don't want to pay their dues like everyone else had too before them.

[sigh]

The purpose of videogames is to have fun, correct? You don't get paid for being a gamer, and as such should not feel entitled to be having more fun than everyone who didn't spend years of their life getting good.

Different people enjoy different things. If you saw someone eating a steak and you were a vegetarian, would you fly into a jealous rage at how much he was enjoying it?

And what do you mean, 'nothing to show' for all your hard work? Is your win/loss ratio in Counterstrike meaningless because someone else is good at Tetris?

I can really see no valid points to your argument. You seem to be saying, 'Nobody is allowed to enjoy themselves unless they do exactly as much work as I do,' which is the same sentiment a tribal medicine man in Africa might react to penicillin. If I'm seeing this wrong, by all means, correct me.

There is extremely little difference between most of Nintendo first party games and their sequels. Mario, Zelda, Brawl, Pokemon, etc are almost all complete copy pastes of the previous game, there is far less of a difference between any CoD sequel.

If you are good at CoD then you will destroy less skilled players nearly every single time. Sure they will probably get a few kills but you will still beat them 99% of the time. I am pretty sure the reason I had a 300+ w/l ratio, 200+ win streak, and consistently consistently went on 15+ killstreaks in CoD4, WaW, mw2, black ops, and mw3 was because of skill not because the of games so called "casual" mechanics. Despite your irrational hatred and irrefutably false logic CoD does rewards those with skill and punishes those without.
