Can we go back to the Metroid Prime way of making Metroid games?

I was scrolling around the internet today when I saw this video.

And as someone who has played all of the Metroid Prime games (Echoes was my favorite) can we please go back to this? Samus doesn't say a word because she doesn't need to, the simple wave that she makes as she walks away from the Luminoth or the way her fist tightens as Dark Samus kills the other hunters speaks volumes about her characters better than Other M ever could. So...does anyone else miss these games?

TheGamingBrit, yeah!

Anyway, I think anyone with their brain on the correct way would agree that the way Prime was designed was better than [REDACTED]. I've only played Super and the first two Prime games, but I have to admit that those are some of my more memorable gaming experiences due to the thrill of hunting collectibles, and what Brit said, in the Prime games the story was pretty much it's own collectible. The story wasn't subtle, it was just not told to you unless you wanted to discover it, and it made it more rewarding to me.

If you take a step back though, Prime 1 was pretty much a book.

I agree. Prime was/is such a fun series. Even Echoes.
I really am in the minority on that being the best one aren't I?

Gah, what happened to that "What games do you think should have HD re-releases"-or-whatever-it-was-called thread? I completely forgot about the Prime games.

Anyways, YES! A millions times yes! Seriously, the Prime series has to be one of the best adventure series of the last decade.

Hey, Echoes is my favorite too. I liked the dark/light Aether concept and every Dark Samus fight was the best boss fight ever!

Aye, Metroid Prime was a fantastic series. The way you explored the environments and slowly uncovered the plot surrounding you and these fantastical locations you'd visit was spectacular and lent itself well to Metroids general ambience, which also was spectacularly well done...

Then Other M came around and replaced all that subtlety with shoddy cinematic and a narrative so stilted and childish it boggles my mind.

Pity. But as much as I'd like the series to back to Metroid Primes excellent example I think it might also be a bit too late for that.

I thought everyone collectively agree not to talk about M:OM .

Prime was good an fun . I wouldn't mind if they continued the game properly . Hell there is a lot of potential with the WIIU for this with the touch screen . So it's a YAY for me.

pretty much. I mean I do understand the gripes some folks have with it, and I share a few of them, but it's still a Metroid Prime game. It still has incredible atmosphere, great music, and wonderful level design.

Indeed. And it still looks pretty good too. Not top of the line like it once was, but it still looks slick and you can still see every detail without the need for reading glasses. With an HD coat of paint though? Talk about downright beautiful. Take what they did for Halo 1 and apply it to the three Prime games= instant money maker for Nintendo.

It also wins on the box art front because holographic.

Why aren't there more holographic box arts? I think they look rad.

Agreed. I didn't mind the internal monologues in Metroid Fusion so much, and when she actually speaks to someone in that game it's as rare and curt as Boba Fett. Something like that might not even be bad in voice format IF it's handled right. The idea exists that only the Prime games should have the FPS style as a kind of 'spin-off', but I think it just meant the end of the story of Metroid Prime itself and Phazon. Just have to call the next one something else with a new storyline, that's all. They certainly won't be making an 'Other M2' ^_^.

One thing I felt that the Prime series could not completely capture due to the constraints of the viewpoint was Samus' more agile moves like the Space Jump and Speed Booster/Shinespark, but with a little reworking you could certainly blend Prime's style with a third-person perspective for jumping and boosting as well as they did with the Morph Ball. Anything to keep it feeling less like a traditional sci-fi shooter and more of an adventure- we have plenty of the former already, thanks.

Samus CAN talk in a game, theres no reason why she cant talk and it be awsome

BUT the trick is to not fuck it up....look at Other M, how hard is it to not fuck up? not as hard as most would think (in my humble opinion)

my solution would be to give metroid to a western developer that knows what they are doing

...yeah I said

True, fusion did it decently, but even then she was quiet most if the time. It's less that her being voiced can't work and more her not being voiced just kinda works better.

I get that...more or less

I think part of it is I'm kind of really really dying for a female protagonist that has some kind of presance/charachter...comander shepard comes close but in the end shes still optional

thats not to say samus doesnt have charachter, I think generally speaking you can sort of get an idea of wht shes like based on actions alone

Well, that's it.
I was planning on doing this again, but now I just feel like it even more.

Time to dust off the wii, and play the Metroid Prime Trilogy.
