Internet can we stop collectively beating dead horses? I mean at least the people here on the escapist who I have come to see are at least decently intelligent human beings that understand the concept of decency and politeness. For the most part anyway. So seriously can we just stop beating dead horses? For that matter can we stop beating dead horses with dead horses. There are a plethora of topics that come under fire near constantly and I'm tired of it. I'll list off the ones I can think of.

Matrix sequels
Star Wars prequels
Pirates sequels
Nintendo
Indiana Jones 4
Spider-man 3
Man of Steel
EA
Console wars
PC vs. Consoles

Just to name a few. If I missed some horses that you have seen here or around the internet elsewhere that you would like for people to just stop beating please post them below. The reason I'm sick of this is because some of the beating is unwarranted, some not all, and its just too much negativity. If we respond to anything new from certain things with scorn and derision we are all going to be very angry people and come on no one wants that. Especially around this time of year. So thoughts, horses you're tired of seeing getting beaten to death with other dead horses. Share.

Any of the -isms

Sexism, racism, it all becomes a blob of oppression

Unfortunately, those are the threads that get tons of responses and warnings

What are we going to do when saying how people are beating dead horses starts becoming a beaten horse topic within itself?. Then people saying that saying saying that saying that talking about how the beaten horse topic is a beaten horse topic in itself is a beaten horse. Argh! So...complicated...help...me...

I agree - It did have a smarmy tone to it.

Naaaww. Poor guy. Another victim of the savage barbarian horde. Us barbarians would like to be similar to you civilized folk, but we just can't. Futile threads with no discussion value just...they just eat up my little Barbarian heart, denying it the honor of growing to the size of one so civilized.

Oh thank goodness. I thought you meant it literally, and that would ruin my Saturday night fun.

It's pretty civil. It's snarky, but it's civil.

I think you need to understand that the reason these topics keep coming up is because people care about them. They're not going to stop caring about them just because you inform everyone that you don't care about them. So you have two choices:

1) Ignore them.

2) Make them better.

The first case is pretty obvious what to do- don't click on the thread. The second case is to steer the conversation to a new and useful place by offering an insight while everyone else is offering opinions. Opinions are easy, everyone has them. Insights are hard, because you have to work to come up with them. But ultimately they are the only thing that advances dialog.
Except no one ever ever ever wants to advance the dialogue in any meaningful way and those that do get jumped on by a million enraged fans that act like you've committed the worst possible crime imaginable. Also snarky comments tend to piss me off when I just want to see what other people think. I ask what topics people are sick of seeing. I get the response of your thread is stupid and this guy is an idiot.

I found that way too funny. I never actually thought of it like that but now you mention it I am also glad it wasn't meant literally.

As long as I can still ***** to my hearts content about the ending of Mass Effect 3, I'm cool with this list.

So long as EA, Nintendo, consoles, and PCs continue to exist and continue to shape gaming as a medium and a culture, I see no reason why we should in any way encourage others to stop discussing them. It's important to discuss them as such discussions broaden the minds and extend awareness, of some people at least. If EA and Nintendo does something, whether positive or negative, that shapes gaming, we should discuss these actions and their merits so that we can learn more. The same holds true for PCs and consoles.

If the X-Box One had not been discussed and put under fire as much as it had, Microsoft wouldn't have reversed their decisions. Whether or not you view them as a good or bad thing, these discussions helped change things. Do you see the power of discussions now? We should never ever limit discussions, even if they've been had a million times before, because as time passes, as perspectives change, so too might the discussions, and in turn more perspectives might change from that.

If you really are that tired of seeing these discussions, don't take part in them. You don't have to click on those threads. You can just keep moving on, but this thread is evidence enough that you can't move on. If it does make you tired, just let it go. Let others have their discussions that they so dearly care about while you move on to the discussions that -you- care about.

In all honesty with those I should've been much much more specific. I painted with a really broad brush. I should've said anything EA does right because even when they seem to do right no one wants to talk about that. They just load a few extra rounds in their gun to say what they did wrong. Nintendo for basically being at this point. The few I see defend them on this end up being called the Nintendo Defense Force and no one gives a crap what they say even if it is intelligent. The whole console war idea I'm just sick to death of at this point. I don't see it really helping any of the consumers to be talking about which console has superior sales or graphics etc. Also the PC vs. console dichotomy. The lines are getting blurred more and more and when I see this discussion brought up it is never anything thought provoking. Never. Its a dick measuring contest every time I see it so yes I'm tired of seeing that dead horse beaten to death with a dead horse.

I see the power of discussions. I also see what topics tend to lead nowhere and to me these are some of the topics that never lead anywhere or do anyone any good because even if it was meant to its just a matter of time before people start missing the point and whatever progress we might've gained is just lost. That's on the gaming front. On the movie front I really am just sick and tired and sick and tire and sick and tired of these particular sets of movies coming under fire years upon years after they were made and being used as some kind of mystical measuring device for how far certain series have fallen. "Oh they are making Star Wars 7? Well it cannot possibly be worse than the prequels. Nothing is worse than the prequels." People keep on saying this schtick nearly 10 years after episode 3 came out.

Such topics come in and out of flavour all the time, just let their time pass naturally.

Beating dead horses is bleh, yeah. We should autopsy them to see why they died instead.

I'm serious, by the way, just metaphorical speak for "We should be less obnoxious in those threads and actually have proper discussions." Tho lately, I've not been in the mood for those, laying low a bit...mind occupied with other things.

You'll notice that I didn't say anything about movies, so I'll just note that I don't particularly care about your second paragraph and that I'm going to pretty much ignore it entirely. And I'm ignoring them for a reason.

That reason being that the ones that I did mention are actively shaping things now. EA and Nintendo are companies that are existing right at this moment and are major publishers and/or hardware producers. If people bring up the bad things that EA's done in a thread about something good EA's done (And, let's be honest, there aren't that many of those threads in existence to be complaining about anyways), then that's fine. EA's done a lot of terrible things and if that still colors people's perceptions, then it's probably warranted. If Nintendo needs a defense force to come to their rescue, they probably did do something that warrants a reason why they're such a polarizing figure (and I could name -plenty- of reasons why they would inspire such polarized views despite loving many a Nintendo franchise and hardware). With PCs and console blurring the lines with advancing technology, with consoles often (Wii U being the exception) wanting to be PCs themselves, then such discussions are still worth merit, even if there's quite a bit of "dick-measuring contest" in the process and that holds true with the console wars as well, considering there might not be enough of a difference between consoles lately unlike there were in the past.

All in all, if you're sick and tired of these discussions happening, then just move on. Let it go. They're not for you and they're not going to be, so don't take part in them. Take part in the discussions that you want to take part in.

And really, perhaps I'll just chalk this down to a difference in perspective. I'm quite optimistic and you seem quite cynical.
