We put six bullets into it...things lucky to still be alive :D

[small]What a stupid (in a good way) movie! I freaking loved it[/small]

Except for your gaming examples (and the rare cheap shot at Star Wars), most of your dead horses have barely been mentioned here. Maybe people complain about them elsewhere?

Anyway, my dead horse that I'd love to see people shut the hell up about are "spunkgargleweewee" (stupidest fucking thing to EVER be adopted out of Yahtzee) and people bitching about sport games. The worst part is that the complaints are usually passive aggressive bullshit cheap-shots put in as a throw-away joke so I end up looking like the crazy one when I complain about it.

I'm not crazy! I'M NOT! Tee hee heeeee haaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!
O_O (those are supposed to be crazy eyes...I don't do emoticons well...)

You'll notice that I didn't say anything about movies, so I'll just note that I don't particularly care about your second paragraph and that I'm going to pretty much ignore it entirely. And I'm ignoring them for a reason.

That reason being that the ones that I did mention are actively shaping things now. EA and Nintendo are companies that are existing right at this moment and are major publishers and/or hardware producers. If people bring up the bad things that EA's done in a thread about something good EA's done (And, let's be honest, there aren't that many of those threads in existence to be complaining about anyways), then that's fine. EA's done a lot of terrible things and if that still colors people's perceptions, then it's probably warranted. If Nintendo needs a defense force to come to their rescue, they probably did do something that warrants a reason why they're such a polarizing figure (and I could name -plenty- of reasons why they would inspire such polarized views despite loving many a Nintendo franchise and hardware). With PCs and console blurring the lines with advancing technology, with consoles often (Wii U being the exception) wanting to be PCs themselves, then such discussions are still worth merit, even if there's quite a bit of "dick-measuring contest" in the process and that holds true with the console wars as well, considering there might not be enough of a difference between consoles lately unlike there were in the past.

All in all, if you're sick and tired of these discussions happening, then just move on. Let it go. They're not for you and they're not going to be, so don't take part in them. Take part in the discussions that you want to take part in.

And really, perhaps I'll just chalk this down to a difference in perspective. I'm quite optimistic and you seem quite cynical.
I'm optimistic to be clear. I'm optimistic that EA wants to not be voted "worst company" again. I'm happy that they are seeming to take baby steps in the right direction. If I'm cynical about anything its gamers themselves and not the companies. I see an article showing EA is doing some good I smile. I see the comments and see nothing but people berating them and not offering even a hint that they are going in the right direction I get a little angry.

For Nintendo the only thing I've seen them do that warrants a defense force these days was the Wii and not making a next gen console that can render every single hair follicle on the human body. I'd like the dick measuring contests among consumers to stop. I'd love to see what Nintendo or Microsoft or Sony is going to do next. I'd love not to be met with scores of people on the internet taking pot shots at each other on a near constant basis. This of course hasn't been helped by the internet. Yes the internet was around way before last gen but from what I can tell most of the internet culture and forum sights like this didn't come into their own until maybe the mid point of last gen. So this is the first console gen launch where the internet is super charging everything. So if I seem cynical its not because I have it out for the industry or anything. Fans and people around the net have made me cynical towards them. Hell I had a blow up with a friend recently because I made a stupid passing joke about the whole DoTA 2 Diretide scenario and kind of how similar it seemed to the Mass Effect 3 outcry that was not meant to be taken seriously and he goes on this huge tangent about how both sets of fans were in the right etc. while I stand there just dumbfounded that a joke I made got him into debate mode. It was like I had walked into a gaming forum except in real life.

I don't see much evidence that you're optimistic despite your claims that you are. Also, I'd just like to point out. "I'm optimistic that EA wants to not be voted 'worst company' again." That's honestly not something to be optimistic about. That's just sense. No company wants to be voted the worst company. Now, being optimistic that they want to change is different, but we're not here to have a microcosmic discussion on every last little discussion you apparently don't want to have.

I'll just end it by once again saying that you don't have to enter these discussions if you don't want to. I kind of doubt that you don't want to because you seem quite eager to keep bringing them up with me, but either move on to the discussions that you want to have or shape the discussions in such a way to be closer to what you'd prefer. Live by the mantra of killing them with kindness. If you take the civil, polite route while backing it up with clear and concise logic and language, you'll win out eventually. For example, that was Jeffers' mistake.

Can we stop all the blather about video games?

Honestly, I don't see why anyone cares.

Spoken like a true Wisconsinite Packerstanian! Because we don't have dead horses here, because they were driven out by the mass of cheesium-producing cattle.

The cows not alive, that's a common misconception beginning dead cow beaters make, don't worry within time you'll have enough experience to realize that the cow is dead and the gentleman in the demonstration video is merely exerting that much force during his beating of the dead cow, that the dead cow's body spasms so hard!

Of those the only ones I've actually seen talked about here more than just a breif mention or random post are Star Wars (and not even prequel talk except the occasional 'well at least episode 7 can't be worse than the prequels!'), Nintendo, Man of Steel (and its been months since the last time I did), EA, Console Wars and PC vs Console.

And to be honest, Star Wars is a fun topic that isn't even talked about unless there's an episode 7 update, Nintendo is a gaming company and your on a gaming website, Man of Steel has died out, EA is constantly opening their mouths and spewing out stupid, new consoles just came out so no shit people are gonna talk about which one is better (even though there is no point because they are too young to know which one of them is going to stop being shitty first) and PC gaming is becoming a huge force in the industry and now that the new consoles are here people are trying to get others onboard instead of buying a new console.

Basically, what you consider to be 'beating a dead horse' is just relevant conversation.

However, I will admit that if we aren't going to add anything substantial to the subject, we really need to drop the civil rights shit. I'm all for having more female protagonists and getting rid of all the burley white men etc. and I'll even be vocal about it, but if I see another 'Anita Sarkeesian is wrong and here is why' article I'm gonna (not actually) blow my brains out, and I don't even like her!

The reason I consider them dead horses is not that they aren't relevant but people rarely have anything insightful or relevant to say. I copped to this a few posts ago. And the attitude of "which console is going to stop being shitty first." is the kind of attitude that starts those discussions that never go anywhere because no one ever responds with well thought out answers.

It'll never stop. Those topics are talked about by obsessive, petty nerds who consider the fact that "HAN DID SHOOT FIRST GODDAMMIT!" the most important thing of all time anywhere ever and there will always be new ones to join in on the "discussion".

So Anita Sarkeensian just recently came out and said the Mass Effect 3 ending is really sexist.

What do you guys think?

Oh, of course.

It's less sexist on PC. And on a Mac it's not sexist at all. Because Macs are better.

Internet can we stop collectively beating dead horses? I mean at least the people here on the escapist who I have come to see are at least decently intelligent human beings that understand the concept of decency and politeness. For the most part anyway. So seriously can we just stop beating dead horses? For that matter can we stop beating dead horses with dead horses. There are a plethora of topics that come under fire near constantly and I'm tired of it. I'll list off the ones I can think of.

Matrix sequels
Star Wars prequels
Pirates sequels
Nintendo
Indiana Jones 4
Spider-man 3
Man of Steel
EA
Console wars
PC vs. Consoles

Just to name a few. If I missed some horses that you have seen here or around the internet elsewhere that you would like for people to just stop beating please post them below. The reason I'm sick of this is because some of the beating is unwarranted, some not all, and its just too much negativity. If we respond to anything new from certain things with scorn and derision we are all going to be very angry people and come on no one wants that. Especially around this time of year. So thoughts, horses you're tired of seeing getting beaten to death with other dead horses. Share.
Isn't this thread pretty much guaranteed to stir up the exact responses you don't want?

It just seems like you're acting as part of the problem right now. This is the perfect venue for people to argue why one or more of those is valid.
