I'm in.

I read the Extra Credits and Escapists responses and there is not enough clarity and there are too many people over reacting and jumping on hate wagons when the dust of this situation obviously has not settled. This is definitely a bad case of miscommunication and one of them is either being a douche or lying, the question that has yet to be solved is who.

The Extra Credits crew is claiming that the Escapist has intently withheld funds, demanded Alison's charity money and imposed a fine/bill($9500).

I was ready to rally behind EC and jump on the hate wagon too until I read:

The Escapist Rep is claiming that an agreement was reached about late payment and that an agreement involving assumptions (always a mistake) was made over the Extra Credits crew reimbursing them over contributions such as t-shirts to support Alison's fund raiser and that any left over money they have would go into the production of more Extra Credit shows.

So unless I'm missing some vital point of info that paints either involved party as the bad guy, everyone needs to wait until more info clarifies the situation before we start running around with torches and pitch forks and claiming to jump ship from the Escapist.

Besides, we can't just leave the Escapist; we can't be leave Yahtzee, Bob, Cory and Carter behind.

Count me in!! I find the whole thing completely appalling, it completely got out of hand. There's been a lot of mudslinging, "he said, she said", and believe it would have been infinitely better had they resolved their differences instead of starting this media war (yes, I'm a "can't we all just get along" idealist). You must be two to tango, in my book, so I'm going to automatically assume both parties have their faults. Most importantly, they should've left us out of it.

*sigh* It's just a huge mess, isn't it? A rather nasty one. So count me in on this one, OP!!!

I'm on no ones side and I'm not stepping back, I love pointing out the flaws on both sides to see who other people think are in the right.

Dear Readers,

[subject]
I NEED MY TANGENTIAL LEARNING!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry for caps)

This show has been a huge inspiration to me, it's gave me insight on many different things both as a consumer and a future artist. I don't care which side is lying or which side is correct. This show was created to stretch the mind's understanding of video games. This is no way for something this inspiring to be shut down from the world. It has a huge fan base which is a large portion of the Escapists views; as well as, a great way for some of the smartest minds to teach. With this being said, it is both a added help to the Escapist as much as to the Extra Credit team. I know there are money problems going on but either one side give in for the greater good or we will lose a huge expansion of modern day idealism. I highly suggest you guys work things out in some form or another. This has become a ordeal that is more than money....it's about the fans and the ones that are learning from this show. Take away the show and we as a culture will continue to do the same thing over and over expecting a better outcome than before.

Thanks for your time,

I'm waiting til more comes to light, but frankly, the "send Yahtzee to PAX" and whatever the heck happened to Lisa Foiles and Rebecca Mayes have me thinking poorly of Escapist. Not screaming boycott and nor am I likely to, but frankly, I used to have 6 reasons to come here. Then I had 5. Then 4. Now I have 3. If Bob takes both his shows elsewhere, I don't know if Zero Punctuation is enough of a draw all by itself. Which is kinda sad as it's why I first showed up and found all the other stuff I loved.

Regardless of the he said/she said of this whole thing, the fact is that every few months, I have less of a reason to come here. Assuming I'm not alone in that feeling, that seems like a bigger problem for the Escapist than whatever happened here with EC.

Thank you.

Seriously, people are being too quick to judge here. The situation is obviously muddled and contorted, and the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle between both claims. I mean, the Escapist claims to have now paid off all the money they owe James, yet people are quick to dismiss that and hate on the site. Of course EC must be in the right, since they're the little guys up against the big mean Escapist. That is the easiest thing to believe, but who knows if it's true?

I'm not jumping to conclusions until we get more info.

Count me in. Hell, I wish this would've happened a whole lot sooner because it was getting absolutely ridiculous around here. I hope that things will calm down when everything, both the good and the ugly, comes into light.

I think there's been some [HEADING=2]SERIOUS[/HEADING] miscommunication here.

Which itself is kinda retarded in our day and age. Or maybe it isn't. Maybe it's Twitter's fault somehow. Fucking 140 characters.

Regardless, I don't yet think anyone is at fault par se. If they just calm down and discuss this properly, I'm sure they can resolve the situation amicably. Fingers crossed.

Kinda unrelated but come to think of it having a lack of money would explain why they've attached ads at the beginning of every video I watch a day. I'm getting tired of those Slim Jim spice commercials and El Shaddai drove me insane.

Agreed, agreed, good ser. I hate these sticky money/contract/yuh-huh/nu-uh games; it always feels like there's some key piece of information dancing around backstage which would explain everything if only the audience could see it. In any case, no sense in getting worked up until greater exposition is achieved.

I really would like for this whole thing to be a simple misunderstanding which will quickly become apparent once both sides compare notes. Each will see where they erred, apologize, set a correctional plan into motion and go off together for drinks, and Princess Celestia will get a letter telling her what they learned.

Yeah, yeah, I said that's what I would LIKE to happen, not what I THINK will happen. Still, let cooler heads prevail.

I fully agree
I'm aiming to remain neutral in the subject, at least until the dust has settled and we can see the full picture

I was so sorry to hear that there is tension and discord. The Escapist is important to me, and I have been coming here for years, first as a lurker, then as a member. This is a little bit like hearing your parents arguing over money late at night when you are supposed to be sleeping. You still love both your parents, and you wish they would just stop.

This said... where are the ads? There used to be more or less tasteful ads all over. Now most of them are for some part of the Escapist. The Publisher's Club, the "pay-to-meet-Yahtzee-at-PAX"-thing and now this.

Just how strapped for cash is the Escapist? Should we be worried?

Sign me up too.
Now I love Extra Credits, like many shows on this site, but I also love the site itself, and the community it has built over the years.
Both parties are a fault, which is only human, and it's silly to the point of stupidity to try and blame anyone when you're not in full possession of the facts.
Having said that, I am a bit peeved that money donated to help Alison was used to start a games studio, when it could have been used for something much better, such has a children charity, helping elevate games as an art form or even just keeping the show going.
I'm also starting to lose hope over getting that t-shirt. Just to be clear, I didn't give the money to get the t shirt, but it is why I gave $20 instead of, say $10.

But anyway, I'll be reserving judgement until we know more, and I very much doubt I'll be hating anyone.

I have no idea why, but reading this possessed me to post
crappy accompanying image.

Maybe it will lighten the mood?

I agree. It's best to just stick to the sidelines for the moment until everything comes to light. Good on ya for keeping a cool head, friend.
