Can you ever punch a teacher?

Before anyone goes crazy about the title, let me explain. My classroom today got into a debate about whether a student can punch a teacher if they deserve it. They referred to the movie Disturbia, which has a scene where shia labeouf's character punches a teacher after the teacher made a comment about his dead father. The debate was short-lived of course.

So it got me thinking, what could the teacher do or say that could possibly make someone want to punch them? Could you ever bring yourself to punch a teacher?

P.S. Sorry for any teachers on the forums. This is just a "what if" kind of debate. :p

Could I punch a teacher? Yes. It depends on what the situation is though. I don't usually punch anyone just because I'm angry at them, so it's unlikely regardless of their position. However if there is a situation that warrants punching a person and that person happens to be a teacher ten it wouldn't make a difference; they would get punched.

Depends on what the teacher did to 'deserve' it. If it's deliberate harassment, then yes I think it's alright.

If the teacher assaulted me in any way I would respond by assaulting them.
I suppose if I had a situation where they insulted my dead father I wouldn't know what I'd do.
Considering this is me I'm talking about, and I can get very hot-headed at times, I'd probably end up punching the teacher.

Unless the teacher is physically attacking you I would advise against assaulting them. It's best to just let it slide if it's not that bad, but if if they are poking fun at dead relatives the best course of action would be to report them and get them fired probably. At the least it would get them to back off a little. Basically, I would never hit a teacher unless they hit me first and I thought they were intentionally set on hurting me.

Pretty much. Anyone who would respond to non violence with violence is someone I would consider maladjusted. Obviously there are endless self defense hypotheticals in which I would punch or do worse to an instructor, but you could say that about most anyone.

I'm sure it happens all the time. I got mate who is a teacher and sometimes I've hit him when he's annoyed me, so yes I got no problem with it.

Responding to such idle comments is stooping to their level. Being better than them means doing what you see is the right thing to do. Whatever your choice, be sure to accept the consequences for your actions.

Well, technically anyone that Rich Franklin fought before quitting his teaching job for the UFC did punch, or try to punch a teacher lol.

I think about it with teachers who are thick as shit but still manage to be patronizing, the kind of person who after 10 minutes of telling them exactly how and where they are wrong (including a diagram) they then say "no, sorry i can't see what the problem is, i'll look over it during lunch and give you the answer afterwards" and then come back with the answer you gave them
(this at A-level btw)
other than that, no, probably not

i'd do it in a heartbeat, just to show them that being an authority figure is not a blank check to deliberately press other people's buttons when they're capable of retaliating.

Punching someone is going through too much trouble with the possibilities of the law getting involved.

If I had a problem with what the teacher was doing, I'd walk out of the class before I'd have the urge to throw a fist.

1. Congratulations, you just called a good chunk of the human race maladjusted. If you mess around the wording you can also say the same about 95% of right wingies.
2. I swear to god your avatar is dancing to the album I just downloaded. [http://answer.ocremix.org/] The song in question being titled "Hyper Monkey Likes the Dancefloor." That's... awesome. That's just awesome.

On topic.
1. Teacher insults me in some way? Burning MIDDLE finger!
2. Teacher tries to physically hurt me? SHINING finger!
3. Teacher asks what the flying fuck I'm talking about? Summon Gundam Fighter!

Ditto. I can't see myself punching a teacher simply in response to something they said. If they did something however that was grossly inappropriate to either myself or anyone else in the room then I'd like to think I'd intervene - always only as a response rather than as starting anything.

Yeah if they're being a big enough dick its fully deserved. I've seen a teacher and a pupil have a good ol' british scrap. Something about the teacher sleeping with his girlfriend or some such.

To clarify, the girl was 19 and the teacher was about 25. Doesn't make it any more right, but considerably less creepy.
