I'd punch a teacher as much as I would punch anyone else, you get me?

Basically, no. Get over yourself. Only in the context of where punching is an act of self-defence, as is the right granted to citizens of most states in this world.

You can punch a teacher as soon as you graduate and as long as no one's looking. I had a teacher I wanted to punch her in the ****, but passing her class was revenge enough.

I punched a teacher once. During PE the teacher sent us to go get some equipment when we were looking for them we found boxing gloves and started mucking around with them. It was bad timing on his behalf he walked in the door as I took a swing at one of the other kids. Amazingly he didn't get pissed off at me and instead complimented my punching ability.

For an insult? No, not really, unless it was intentionally directed at a student and intended to harm or insult said student.

Otherwise...I dunno, I've been hit with a ruler by a teacher, and promptly grabbed the ruler and started hitting back. So for being hit, if you know you didn't do anything particularly deserving of being hit, then yes, I believe it's fair.

I see no reason why not. There are sadly situations that only violence can solve, whether its due to emotions running high, or a matter of self defence. Strange as it may sound, a good punch can do wonders from a clearing the air perspective.

To the OP: Was the choice of a teacher here just because of the recallable scene or for some other reason? Seems a little odd to me that you'd seperate out a group from the rest of humanity for their profession, but I could just be overthinking it.

I'm not a fan of violence, so no. I don't think I could ever punch anyone unless it was self defense.

If a person is doing something that deserves a punch then they aren't worthy of their station of honor anyway. I've met some narcissistic, shallow, obnoxious and ignorant teachers in my time, someone having the balls to whack them one and knock them down a few pegs is probably doing them a favor.

A teacher is a position just like everything else, it's the person behind it that counts, we can't draw a conclusion on someone based on they're job alone.

Were Templers in the right to do what they did just because of their position?

It would take quite a bit to get me to physically assault someone, teacher or no. In fact, I'm not really sure why we're talking about teachers specifically in the first place. What about parents? Cops? Why not just "authority figures" in general?

IMO Only if there was physical confrontation involved. If a teacher insults your dead father, deal with it I guess. Sure the guys an asshole, but sticks and stones.

My brother punched a teacher...after the teacher took a swing at him, then it was a fist fight. Years later when I went to the same High School, I'm told I was not in the same area as him because of that. I've run into teachers my brother had, and they were always stunned when they see me, or my last name.

As a future teacher, I'm somewhat alarmed at this being a topic under discussion, and especially the responses in favor of violence against teachers...

And for those of you twisting the argument, the OP clearly meant to ask whether it is admissible without punishment to hit a teacher with violent intent, during classroom time, without an immediate physical threat to the person or anyone in the room; to which I'd reply "No."

If you have a problem with something the teacher says to the point where it can't be handled in civil discussion, then leave the classroom - perhaps file a complaint to the administration.

For me, self defense sure why the hell not. I dont start fights I intend to end them.

But if the teacher was insulting me, belitting my family, and generally just being a gigantic asshole, I'll smile and say "Sure keep talking, by the way i'm writing all this down. Say hello to the police and my lawyer okay?"

In Disturbia he should have said flat out that he was reporting the teacher to the principle and left the room right there. Although if a teacher was trying to assault or rape you then yes slug the jerk. You shouldn't hit a teacher based on words alone.

You CAN, but you won't. The consequences will kick you in the ass, and the teacher knows it, so ultimately they will always win.
No we won't. It's the other way around. There is a shit load of red tape when being a teacher. I once got in trouble for saying the word 'crap' in my classroom.

Respond in kind maybe. If they insult your mother, insult theirs, if they punch you, return the favor.

Short of self defense, no. But that's just because I rarely fight anyway. Words work much better for me, so I stick with that.
