Normally, i can modify my attention very easily and do it frequently. There are however some kinds of things that i cannot tune out and which disrupt my attention unless i get away from them - screaming children, loud music from headphones in an otherwise quiet environment, booming bass from music, etc. It all depends on how much it "sticks out" from the rest of the environment sounds.
Something that can make "tuning out" make more difficult to me, is that i not only have rather "detailed" hearing, but also "hear" with the rest of my body. That is, i notice vibration caused by sounds, where others don't notice it.
