Eh, the movie is a semi snuff film. It's not that bad. But then again I have an extreme tolerance for such things (minus the turtle death, that made me a sad panda). The director got arrested because everyone thought he murdered the cast. But other than that, no harm done.

This movie is a classic. Sure its gory and it did its job by getting a rise out of you. The whole theme of this movie is profound. It's about a group of journalists that set out to do a documentary of the 'barbaric' cannibals. However, when they got there they were pretty docile and they felt like they had to spice up their footage a bit by committing acts of violence, rape, and destruction. It turns out that the journalists themselves were the 'barbaric' people and they got theirs at the end. This story could be compared to real-world journalists today looking to sensationalize thing. Additionally, you can compare the story to some countries foreign policy and general attitude towards other countries.
The premise of this film is similar to the Blair Witch as their footage was found and we get to see what happened to them as they play the footage back.
And BTW, they weren't pushing a baby out, they were putting mud, twigs, and stuff IN. This was the ritual punishment for adultery. Although this part of the violence was extreme, there was a purpose in the form of a social ritual. The journalists killed for no reason and caused havoc to an otherwise peaceful people.

The movie is banned internationally because it depicts animal cruelty.
Despite the gore, I actually thought it was a really great movie about getting what you deserve for interfering in other cultures. It challenges our perceptions of the media, and of `savage` tribes.

It's a great movie and not meant to be funny. It's an observance of two different kinds of people, both the documentarians and the tribespeople. Both are savage, but both are savage in different ways. The difference is that the documentarians think they are above the 'savages'. The documentarians murder multiple people for higher ratings and rape a young woman just because they can, however the tribespeople just do what they have to do to survive. In the end it's seen that both are just as savage, though the tribespeople have an excuse since they haven't been exposed to medical science or had their faith challenged. The documentarians are the worst because they KNOW what they're doing is wrong yet do it anyway.Fortesque said:

Hm.... I just watched the movie. I must say, it was very intriguing. I wasn't disturbed or grossed out in any way, shape or form at the gore nor killing of animals. I actually enjoyed the part with the turtle because I have always wanted to see exactly what it was like.

this movie was like the Blair Witch Project, when the director returned to Italy, he had the actors hide for a bit, to make everyone think they were dead. he got arrested for their "deaths" and had them come out of hiding to prove they were alive
it's a great movie and rather disgusting but that's the point.
