can't get into Far Cry 2

I bought Far Cry 2 because I wanted to sneak up to an enemy strong hold and see just how many of them I could take out before they realized what was happening. However, to do so would take multiple tries and every time I die and I have to drive back there. If its a mission I might not have to go back that far but if I have any location to go to that is far away I'll drive there and get killed on the way. They shoot you and your vehicle breaks down so you can't just run away. Safe houses help but why can't I just restart where I left off? Just getting to friend missions has proved horribly difficult. In any other game there would be a bit of load time then I could just try again. So far this has been a complete game breaker for me. Is there any way around this problem?

You're playing it the wrong way.

Take it slow, approach every group of enemies with stealth, get out of your car.

It doesn't get any easier as you go through the game, much to its detriment as the respawning checkpoints make for some frustrating, repetitive gameplay.

However... the game gets a lot more fun when you unlock grenade launchers and explosives.

The actual missions are a blast and challenging in a good way. Just sucks that they only make up 20% of the game time, the remaing 80% spent driving and swearing at the TV.

God I hated driving everywhere, FC2 really needed quick travel...

Sad to say there isn't really any way around it, although if you want to make travelling a little easier I recommend staying off the roads.

FarCry 2 was ruined by repetitive travelling, slightly clumsy controls, and the lack of an ability to actually side with a faction, making everyone permanently hostile. Which is a shame, it has such a good concept, and some brilliant moments which make you feel like a badass.

Far Cry 2 is a lot of good ideas couched in really awful decisions - and the insta-respawning enemy checkpoints are probably the worst. The game will be brutally annoying and repetitive unless you go out of your way to vary things up a bit. Take a boat when you can, it's scenic and there are fewer checkpoints to plow through. And a nice overland hike will not only help avoid unnecessary combat, it also dramatically improves the pacing of the game. Though it would be much better still if the world map wasn't walled off into such board-game-like corridors.

Trust me, its a slow game and it breaks the flow ALOT.You CANNOT sneak up or stelth in Far cry 2, the enemies have hawk eyes. The death spawn thing is dumb as fuck. EVERYONE HATES YOU. The vechical can take little damage and you end up walking fucking miles to your goal (and most likely die). Just for the sake of a far cry thread, i hated the ending.

Well technically there is a quick travel feature, it's just that it comes in the form of 5 bus stops spread across the map. They'll save you a LOT of time. Also I carried a flare gun with me because I learned if the enemy is behind cover, burn'em out.

I have the game for the PC and xbox 360, PC version shown here on max settings.

As far as the reloading and driving all the way back goes, quicksaves are your friend. Also, it's tough being sneaky until you get the silenced mp5, but once you get the dart gun, (IMO) everything gets a bit more satisfying. It's also tough being sneaky in the daytime.

Apparently you can't save whenever you want in the console version? You can in the PC version. Blame the console version, not the game itself. Same with clumsy controls -- worked great on PC.

But if you're dying a lot, you're doing something wrong... possibly trying to not kill everything you meet. All enemy vehicles are inexplicably faster than you. They will catch you, or maybe a patrol vehicle or someone at the next guard station over will spot you, gunfire attracts attention and you may end up caught between two aggro'd guard stations with a damaged vehicle. That's a good way to get yourself killed.

Killing everything does become something of a routine and sometimes a chore. But stealth exists enough that you can quietly survey your area, identify targets, and efficiently (noisily, usually) clean up. The map even tells you where you will encounter all threatening concentrations of hostiles.

I don't get why people say there is no stealth in this game. Sneak into an enemy camp at night with the dart rifle, play carefully, and you can kill everyone without ever being spotted. I've taken out big 15+ enemy encampments easy using this strategy. Don't drive on the roads when your close to an enemy checkpoint, use fast travel as much as possible, and in order to actually kill someone without alerting anyone else you have to headshot them with a silenced weapon, or kill them with the dart rifle. Don't use the machete that alerts everyone.

Seriously though I thought the game was alot of fun and I really enjoyed the stealth. Also the flare gun is one of my favorite weapons of all time, so much fun to use.

its alright, the ending however is bullshit, especially if/when you try to immerse yourself into the game/story.

The most annoying part of that game is that you can take out a roadblock/stronghold, only to have it rehabitated within a minute. Very, very annoying.

Really? I thought it kept with the overall theme of the game.

%100 correct. FC2 is one of my favorite games, it has it's flaws, but I love it.

I hate that the stealth kills with the machete never work though, they always scream while they're on the floor and alert the other dudes around so there's no point. If you want to be stealthy you have to use the silenced Makarov or the Dart Rifle, which always got on my nerves.

it just pissed me off as i played nice-ish guy throughout, so my reward is:
I HAVE to kill myself, sure, i can get not killing the jackal, but WHY THE FUCK DO I HAVE TO SHOT MY OWN HEAD OFF?
Really stupid.

I got into that game so much. I loved it and every replay since. Just get your self the Dart Rifle, Silenced MP5 and a Desert Eagle. You can be a stealthy bastard with that set up as you only use your Desert Eagle when some guy is lying on the floor nearly dead and you just take him out executioner style. Or... Take an AK47, the little secondary weapon grenade launcher and what ever else you want and go Rambo style.

well im afraid 2 options
1: turn it down to easy diff
2: take a hammer and destroy the game

although with 1 there is no need for stealth and i suppose option 2 isnt stealth.. well you could sneak up on the game disc.
