So I work at a fast food place called Carl's Jr. (Hardees) on a college campus. Here is an exchange I had today:
-"Hello, how can we help you today?
"Does the Ranch Bacon Cheeseburger have any meat?"
-"Yes, it has a small beef patty and bacon."
"Is there ranch dressing on the sandwich?"
-"Yes it has ranch."
"What else does it have?"
-"It has cheese."
"Oh, never mind then."
She turns around
-"Have a nice day."
and then she left.
Now, what is wrong with people? I can understand if you haven't eaten at a Carl's Jr. before and you aren't familiar with the menu. But what are you expecting when you read the words "ranch bacon cheeseburger." What could she possibly thought it was?
Now this isn't the first encounter I've had with absent minded individuals.
*someone had order a breakfast burrito*
"Can I return this?"
-"Sure, What was wrong with it?"
"It has a tortilla. I don't like tortillas."
"can I order a [burger]"
-"did you want that as a combo today?"
"no"
-"alright. Your total is..."
"Can I also get fries and a soda?"
-"Did you want me to make those a combo? If I do then it will be a dollar cheaper."
"No, no combo."
-"No problem."
-"Here is your change and I'll be right back with your drink."
person walks away
"Hey! I didn't get my drink."
-"I'm sorry about that. Let me get that for you."
"What are these hot things in my jalapeno burger?"
These are just some of the examples of things I have heard people say. I'm not sure if these people just don't know how to think or if this is just some elaborate social experiment put on by some psychology class over the past 4 years. It has to be either of those 2 or these people just know how to turn off their brains.
The Disabled Services Students know how this is supposed to work. Am I to believe that the "normal" student doesn't understand?
Are people like this more common that I think?
