Why so much complaining? If the prototype, which is a leading title of the eShop, sells badly they cancel the game. Sounds fair. Also, if the demo lasts more than, say, 2 hours, it's still good value for money. And if the game probably won't be cancelled, given the progress already made on it.

And if thats not good enough for you, go complain oh the development blog, not an internet forum that the developers probably don't even know about.

This actually makes pretty good sense from a business perspective, in my opinion. Rather than investing a ton of money into making a full version, check and see if enough people will be willing to pay for it. At $3, there's no reason not to pay for the "demo" if you're wanting the full version, and if you're waiting to buy a 3DS until MML3 comes out, the price will likely stay the same until then anyway. Bottom line, if the userbase is there, this will happen, but if it's not then Capcom will save a lot of money and time which could be used on other, more profitable, business ventures.
It works well for Capcom, yeah. But think of it this way, 1000 people buy the demo for $3. Sure they only made $3000 dollars but if that's not enough people and they decide not to release it, then they just made $3000 for damn near no work. How would you feel if you were one of the people who wasted money on a demo, trying to coax Capcom into releasing it and then having them shit in your eye?
Um, honestly, spending $3 on a good demo is well worth the money. Sure, it would suck if there weren't enough people to convince Capcom to release it, but that's the risk this venture is taking. It's definitely (in my mind) a better investment than three lottery tickets.

Also, taking your scenario, if Capcom made $3000 on this demo, they would definitely pull the plug for good reason. Enough work has gone into this project, which started in September, that $3000 could barely cover any costs. Honestly, I'd say if Capcom can't get a return of 75% on this demo, then there's no reason for them to keep working on the product, as they've already shown a significant loss.
You'd pay money for a demo?
What is wrong with you?
Demos are supposed to be free, so people can test the game and see if they like it
If you have to pay for them , then it defeats the entire purpose of what a demo is there for

They're bluffing. This is just capcom's newest scheme. They know it's going to sell, and even be somewhat of a console seller. The fact that they believe people will PAY for a DEMO(something that is ussually free) shows you they already know it's viable for a full release.

This seems poorly thought out. I have no interest in the prototype but I want to play the full game. It's like Case Zero for Dead Rising 2-I think it's superfluous and I don't care what it adds, I wouldn't pay an additional five dollars on top of the retail price for a little more of the game.

Interesting idea, but I completely disagree with this concept. I find it insulting that a company would go so low as coercing their fan base to buy something else to play a game they are waiting for. If that were the case, I would want a coupon reimbursing me of that money towards the purchase of Legends 3 so that I would be getting the Prototype for free for committing to the purchase of the game.

Release it for the PSN and I'll download like 47 copies of it. Somehow.

No, seriously. It's only fair. What do these new kids playing the 3DS know about MML? They'll probably get bored and go play something like CoD. That's all these kids do nowadays anyway. :/

Not buying the "gauging the interest" line. This is Capcom trying to line their pockets more.
