I'm a long time fan of a series from a developer we've all heard of - capcom. Capcom has been known as a high quality developer for many years making such great games as Street Fighter, Ghosts and Goblins, the Resident Evil series and the greatest of all in my humble opinion - Megaman. Yesterday, I was brushing my teeth and started humming the theme song to one of my favorite levels from Megaman X: Storm Falcon. This train of thought led me to think, "now what the hell happened to the megaman series?" A few years ago I got one of the Megaman Zero games for my Game Boy. I played the game the whole way through but once I reached the end I realized that there were only a few levels I actually enjoyed. Now I don't want to get too deep into this game because this isn't a review.
What I do want to say is something that I think many of you old sidescrolling action vets want to say as well: "Why no more good Megaman games?" If you're like me, you grew up with the Megaman series as a staple in your video game collection, and at the time Megaman was a beaming example of level design, character design and overall some of the funnest games you've ever played. The question that you may be asking yourself is the same one I asked myself while brushing my teeth, "Capcom, what the fuck have you done?" Capcom seems to be doing just the opposite these past few years then they should have been doing with the series: releasing game after game of remake after remake that seems to be doing nothing more than cashing in on the series than actually creating a quality video game. It won?t be difficult. Just make a new game where you don the blue helmet once again and take on some new and interesting villain. I highly doubt that this will ever happen, because as we all know, developers want to keep vacuuming up the money from those kids that enjoy those bright eyed cutesy anime characters that they've turned exclusively this franchise into.
Now let me wrap my thoughts up just to make clear the point of my raving. Capcom, a genius developer does what many developers do over the years: comes out with a great design and idea, the game becomes legend then slips into mediocrity. What I want is for Capcom to bring back that formula of clever level design, interesting abilities and stop bombarding this series with such heresy as Megaman Battle Network. I'm not sure what is going to happen to the Megaman series but I just want to get the demons out of my mind and into some sort of written form to finally silence that part of me that thirsts for a new game that once finished I won?t feel like I willingly was dragged through mud and puke.

Something is wrong with Capcom these days? Y'know, I must've been too busy loving these games to really notice that:

Lost Planet
Dead Rising
Zack & Wiki (LOVE this game, more please)
Ace Attorney (series)
Ultimate G&G (you might wanna look into this one, its some hardcore platforming)
RE4
Okami
Viewtiful Joe (series)
Killer7 (only recently finally picked it up for cheap, very, very cool, unique game. Gotta love Suda51)

Sure, there's no MM, but they're all fun, original titles (I'd call RE4 original when compared to the rest of the series). Well I thought they were fun anyways. A good Mega Man game has gotta be coming though, I can feel it. Capcom is totally returning to their former glory recently in my books (see above titles, the forthcoming SF4, DMC4, Bionic Commando, SSFTHD), so give 'em a break I say.

I hated Lost planet. But i wouldn't care if they came to my house and piddled in my fridge because they made the best game in the world; Dead Rising. As for a Megaman game? I think they'll have their hands tied up for a while with others Street Fighter and ResEvil 5

My favourite games by Capcom would be the two Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons and ages. I'm playing Seasons at the moment on GBC for some reason. I don't know why I like these games so much.......I just do. Capcom make a lot of good games and too be honest I'm kinda glad the killed of the megaman series otherwise we will have something I like to call "nintendosyndrome"

Capcom isn't the developer for Megaman. They just own the license as well as produce the title.
What's that you say?
Well yes. For example, people are all 'Omeg Resident Evil 4 is great game capcom make!!11"
Actually it was Clover Studios that actually -made- the game. Capcom just funded it for the most part.

Capcom just needs to take whoever has been making Megaman and thrash them a little and then throw them out and get someone who knows what makes megaman good on it.

Just like someone needs to do something with Studio8 (Final Fight:Streetwise) Dissapointment! D:

It's too easy to make one great game.
But if you keep on making games in the same style, (or god forbid, with the same characters) then eventually they stop being so popular because people say "I already did this in the last game!".
Hence unless interesting/innovative additions/changes are made, the series goes down hill (or should I say down cliff) and ends up dying.

If you look at the popularity of series such as Zelda and Mario, you can see that sometimes you can get away with this repetition a lot, while others don't.
[Aside]I'm going to get lynched for saying that aren't I?[Aside/]

I think that it's possible that Capcom couldn't think of something great to add and hence (wisely) decided not to make half rate, repetitive games.

I always wondered why Legend of Zelda and Mario can get away with making the samething again and again, with just slightly changing the content of the game.
The story of almost each Zelda game: Zelda get caught by a bad guy, you have to fight an X number of dungeons collecting an X number of random objects and getting a mastersword to beat the bad guy. note, i do love the Zelda serie myself for some reason.
I wonder if Halo could get away with remaking the game an X amount of times with just different weapons and character design.

Also, isn't capcom making Goldensun 3(just an rumour i heard)? It is an great serie wich i would really like to more from unless it will be going downhill like other series, wich will be likley.

I couldn't agree more. A good thrashing to the Megaman team could do wonders for the stagnant series. The fact that Clover studios developed RE4 serves as even more evidence supporting that Capcom just can't seem to get the act together and really reshape their motivation and creativity and really get behind a great developer and do something great once again instead of hiding behind a myriad of mediocre games such as Dead Rising, Lost Planet and the others. I'm not saying that these games are bad, but that they are just verging on decent and in no way put into the same category of quality with the older games. If Capcom could make the dedication to quit siphoning money into their pockets and really focus their energy on making a game with some serious backbone then perhaps some day when I see the blue and yellow words come across my screen, I'll be excited again. But until that day comes, I must be patient and watch the rest of the publishers and hope for lightning to strike once again.

I disagree with calling Dead Rising mediocre. It has a good storyline, better than any other zombie game I can think of, is creative, and most of all, at least to me, is that it's just fun to play.

Nintendrones. Nintendo has a solid fanbase that will gladly tear you a new one if you say one bad word about Zelda or Mario. I asked one kid why Zelda is always rated as the greatest game ever, and he replied with; "BECAUSE IT IS!" He did go on to give some backing, such as storyline and slight immersion, but he didn't say anything that kept me from thinking Portal, Doom, or HL2 are the greatest games ever.

Ace Attorney, I love that series. Hope Apollo Justice lives up to Phoenix Wright. Besides, I can't imagine what else we'd do with the Megaman series.

My favourite game from capcom is Dead Rising, me and my friend played for like 6-8 hours taking turns. We could of played a different game like WWE or Gears of War (other manly games go here). Being the noobs we were we lived for like 5 mins each unless we got into a car and obliterated anything in our path, which made us live for minutes more. But i have never played a resident evil game and so cant place judgement coz they apparently rule.

Uh, hasn't Capcom been notorious for rehashing since the early '90s, and possibly earlier?

As their games go, I love their fighters: SF III, Power Stone, Marvel vs. Capcom. I've never been such a big fan of their other series'. Mega Man doesn't hold my attention the way Mario or Sonic can, Breath of Fire seems somewhat mediocre, and the RE titles were always too colourless and insular for my tastes.
