Just got back from the midnight showing and I am completely bushed... the movie was good though. Did anyone else see it at midnight? What'd you guys think?

I'll go into more detail after wake up from my coma tomorrow, but I'll run through a quick list of pros and cons (spoilers will be tagged).

Pros:
- It delivered on action, humor and overall fun
- The fight scenes were pretty good
- Chris Evans is as much Steve Rogers as Robert Downing Jr. is Tony Stark
- The Avengers universe references/building was well done
- Stan Lee's cameo sneaks up on you (which is a good thing)
- Tommy Lee Jones steals every scene he is in (which is way more than I thought by the way)
- Dum Dum Dugan is in it (even if they don't mention his name for some reason >.>)

Cons:
-
Bucky's death was super lame
- The war-movie style montage halfway through was a bit too campy and the CGI was weak/gimmicky (probably for 3D)... thankfully the montage is pretty short
- They never show Steve's training beyond basic, nor do they mention how he learned how to be such a boss with his shield
- Red Skull isn't fleshed out quite enough
- The ending is kind of abrupt

Overall I liked it a lot and thought it did its job well. I'd rank it up as about as good as Thor and a bit better than Incredible Hulk. Both Iron Man films still outdo it though.

Bucky isn't really dead. Nobody in any movie ever actually dies by falling into a chasm (unless they are henchmen). Even if you overlook the chasm death, Bucky is destined to come back at some point. If not in the second Captain America than in the third (but probably the next CA movie) as Winter Solider.

Overall I agree: This was a really good movie but I think I would rate it higher than the first Iron Man. There were some campy bits but I always kind of thought the 1940's were just like that. Not in an everyday sense but when it came to 40's entertainment.

Thank you very much for using spoilers.

I have to say, I'm surprised. I find it hard to believe that someone was able to make a movie out of a person who dresses like the American flag who's super power is a shield.

Of an American flag.

I haven't really been keeping up with the movies because I'm not really good friends with the movie group of friends anymore. I might try to ask a girl on a date or something just to watch it.

First thoughts: "Well, this movie sucks...WAIT A SECOND! Is that Tool I hear playing? OMG, a Tool song for a movie's soundtrack. Wait, why would Tool even want to do that?" Of course, this was only the trailer.

I really liked it. It's not quite as good as Thor, but better than First Class and WAY better than Green Lantern.

All I can say is I'm glad to hear it went well. Glad to see the Avengers movie is getting set up nicely.

i have to say i have no real idea how i felt. I definitely agree that the musical number was WAY too long and pointless. the spoiler mentioned above was also goofy and abrupt. The entire movie just seemed kind of rushed and patched together. The comedy was occasionally funny but mostly forced and awkward. Tomy was hilarious hugo was awesome but i agree he was barely fleshed out; and he never really got to do anything too cool. The romance however was done exceedingly well. It was nice to see some old-world beauty and get a break from the freaky anorexic fish faces populating holywood these days. Also i have trouble even remembering the movie because i had to scrape my brains off the theater walls after the credits ended and my mind was blown.

Yeah that's always a possibility, especially since they established they are using Brubaker's version of Bucky, but I still think the scene was handled poorly
I watched the movie with a friend who is obsessed with war movies and WWII history and his favorite part was the campy bits. Apparently they did a good job mirroring those kinds of old films.

Isn't saying that it's better than Green Lantern pretty much like saying it's better than getting a tetanus shot?

I'm seeing it the first week in August and I'm excited. For some reason Captain America has always been my favorite super hero. I have no idea why. I am not a ludicrously patriotic person, but for some reason he has always been my favorite. I'm very excited to see this movie personally.

All in all, I thought it was a great movie. The one thing I do have to note is that it seems like they were rushed for time after the big rescue. I feel that maybe the few problems I had might be fixed my an extended edition/deleted scenes. Also, it's nice to see Neal McDonough getting work.
it was awesome to see not just a teaser, but what equates to a full-blown Avengers trailer
