How have car accidents effected you over the course of your life?

An accident before my time has left my dad with a bad back. So I've always remembered my dad as somebody who sometimes every so often in the month needs to go to a chiropractor to fix him up. And if he doesn't he'll be so stiff with pain he can't move at all. It's not a good feeling watching your dad in so much pain and knowing there isn't anything you can do at all.

Much more recently a friend of mine was killed in a drunk driving accident. He was T-boned by a drunk guy coming home from a party in another town. The idiot lived, the innocent died and it shocked our town's small community.

Accidents happen every day, whether they're preventable or not, and they do impact people's lives.

So how have they impacted you? Have you been directly involved in an accident? Have you ever been the first to the scene of an accident?

Post away.

I've been clean for now but today I got real real close to hitting a deer. I was able to stop in time since I was on a steep hill and only going about 30 mph at the time but it was a little too close for comfort.

My mom got into several accidents with me in the car when I was little, and it left me terrified to drive for ages. I just got my driver's license last month... at the age of 25.

About a month ago the my car got backed into by a woman in her late 30's at the petrol station. Her car only got a few scratches but the whole front of my car had to be replaced because the frame got bent out of place. She didn't say sorry or anything, just checked the damage to her car and swapped details with me. Fortunately it only took a couple of days to fix so I wasn't without my car for too long. I've been about a hundred times more worried about what other people are gonna do now.

I got hit fairly hard when I was a kid, damn near killed me. Persistence on behalf of the paramedics and doctors as well as more then a bit of luck are the only reason I'm still around.

Eventually got back on my feet and things are mostly normal, just hurts to breathe sometimes.

I got into a minor car accident about 2 years ago. I still remember a lot of that day.

I was driving to Wal-Mart because the movie Up had just been released on DVD and I wanted to get it. It had been raining the night before so the roads were still a little wet. Minor sprinkling here and there, but nothing major.

I have to drive down a pretty steep hill in my small town to get to the Wal-Mart. I was a fair distance away from the car in front of me, but the car in front of THEM decided "Oh wait, I need here" slammed on their brakes and made a sudden an unexpected left turn into a parking lot.

Car in front of me had to slam on their brakes, I had to slam on my brakes, the hill was steep and the road was still wet. My car hydroplaned a good couple feet and my hood soon crunched up into their bumper.

Thankfully no one was hurt, and the only damage was to my car. Like seriously...their car hardly had a scratch. The guy got out and I apologized profusely for what had happened. Lucky for me he was pretty cool with it. He and I both thought it was because of the guy in front of him, and even the cop taking our statements agreed with us.

...Then his pregnant wife got out of the car...I hit a pregnant woman >_>

Like I said, very minor fender bender, no one was hurt. My hood is still a little crunched up to this day because I was cheap with the repairs, but it's a constant reminder of that day.

I've been in two accidents. Both of which were my fault. Though the first one was because the lady in front of me stopped WAY short at a stoplight the instant it turned yellow. Silly me, I thought nobody would stop with twenty feet between them and the line. -_-
The second one was completely my fault, though. I was going to pick up my brother at rush hour, and I'd made it a point to be very careful on the highway. I got off, there was a giant clusterfuck of traffic on the new street, my phone chimed and I took my eyes off the road for that half second it took for me to miss the brake lights ahead of me. >.<

I've had a couple accidents in my life, both pretty much totalling the car I was driving, but thankfully no one was ever hurt.
The first happened about 5 years ago, and was considered my fault by the insurance companies, although I would disagree.
The second occured quite recently, back in July. Also my fault, and I agree this time - I just wasn't paying as much attention as I should have. This last one really sucked - it just made me really depressed and anxious up until only recently. And I really liked the car I was driving. Thankfully my grandfather helped me buy another one, but I hate it - it's a piece of junk that I had to bring in for repairs 4 or 5 times already.

Two. One a minor fender bender, the other a genuine wreck. I'd say, not accidents, but wrecks--as in "Hot Fuzz"--I think every crash has a cause.

My grandmother has been involved in a couple of car accidents. Broke her leg once, and her hip the other. At least, I think that's what happened. Might have only been one that got her leg, and maybe she fell for the hip. Or maybe she's broken her hip more than once. I dunno. She's been in a car accident, okay! I can at least figure that much out.

I've never been in one though. Thank goodness.

I was nearly T-Boned on my way back from work because some dick put up a garage sale sign in my line-of-view and as I pulled forward to see around the sign, I seen a car about to T-Bone me and so I sped up and it spun me a full 180 degrees. Almost no damage done to my car but his entire front end was totaled.

At college I was in a passenger seat when my friend went to turn left on a yellow light after a few cars had gone by. It was a pretty big intersections (four lanes in all four directions plus turn lanes) and a truck decided to run the light. It t-boned us on the passenger side rear axle. The car was drivable but required some body work. I had some whiplash for a few days but the weird thing was that I couldn't stop myself from replaying it in my head. It took a few nights to sleep right.

Apparently I'm a walking car magnet since I've been in four car accidents and only one was involved with me inside of a car and none of them I was driving. Out of all my car accidents I was only seriously hurt in two of them.

One was flying over the roof of a guys car and landing on the pavement whacking my head. I only remember bits and pieces of that, like the guy that hit me panicking and backing up and I'm laying there thinking he's really going to kill me. And the second one I was hit in the side by a speeding car and it broke my leg in seven places and fractured it in four. It was on a busy road and I remember the cop saying. I'm sorry Ma'am but you can't lay in the middle of the street. I need to let traffic move. So he hefted me up and laid me across a parked car until the ambulance came.

I was in one accident with my Dad and sister. We all got out unscathed but it wouldn't have happened if the asshole didn't try to swerve like he did. We were turning into a lane at a median and the guy tried going around us by going in front of us instead of behind like you normally would when someone is waiting to make a turn in a center lane.

Other than that, I lost my uncle when I was about 8 years old. He and a couple of friends were coming home from a party, him in the passenger seat. He was pretty big into drugs and drink when he was younger but he was turning his life around and getting close to my Mom again, him being her older brother. Anyway, he was in the passenger seat, being driven by his drunk friend. For whatever reason (I assume an animal) he swerved and slammed into a tree. My uncle Burke, wearing a seat belt, was the only casualty.

My stepdad took our wing-mirror off on the passenger side when I was in the car (by smacking it into another car), it sounded like a gunshot but there was no real damage and no-one was hurt.
The only other crash I was in was when I was in the womb - my mum got in a car crash when she was about 7 months pregnant with me (I think). I was born with inner-ear problems though, but I dont know if the crash might have caused them or I would have been born with them anyway.

Haven't really had car accidents affect my life in any real way. I guess I can call myself fortunate. I've had a few people hit my car in the past, but nothing serious that wasn't handled outside a standard insurance deal.

[sub]I left the original cause I thought that it was funny...<.<[/sub]

I thought of you when I first saw this thread... but you don't venture far out of the Forum games section...

OT: got hit a couple times... once would've probably killed me but luck would have it that I was tall enough to roll over the top instead of actually get hurt... and the rest were really just more getting knocked over by a car than actually getting hit...<.<
