If you don't know Carolin Petit does video game review's for Gamespot and she did the game 'L.A Noir' BUT Miss Petit is a Transexual. I cycled through the comments on her LA noir review on you tube and Its Disgraceful

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2011/05/medium_carolynmichelle.jpg [her picture]

there were so many comments that were rude and stupid eg

I can't believe a fucking transgender person is reviewing this game. Like, I'm shocked. -Snobroll
AHHHH! what the Fuck Is That!!!. KILL IT, KILL IT WITH FIRE-benjiboy1225
thats why men shouldnt have long hair and wear pink I bet he is gay-pcangeldust

i would like to know a couple of things

1. Why are these people being so insincere?
2. what do you make out of all of this?
3. Why do people take the time to ***** about the gender in the comments rather then discuss the game ?

1-3. Youtube comments. Seriously, why does this even surprise you?

I'm pretty sure intelligent, insightful, on-topic comments are not allowed on Youtube.

1. Trans-sexuality has always existed in human culture but as has always been seen as 'unnatural'. Evolved response maybe?
- Also seeing the picture. If she wasn't previously a man people would have made cracks about it anyway.
2. Meh
3. There are multiple forums where you can discuss the game. This one has something else that is interesting.

I was wondering about that, it looked too mannish to be a women and too female to be a man, made it hard to pay attention to the review since I kept wondering about it, now I know and knowing is half the battle

most of the world either doesn't understand,or our right hates us trans-people,especially us Male-to-Female trans people, that is why comments like that exist and continue to get posted.

it's despicable that it happens but it is not the worst thing that happens to us,what with some getting nearly getting beaten to death for using a public restroom.

Youtube comments are an environment that breeds that kind of thoughtless "discussion," but I feel it's in equally poor taste to post the names of these people on here, as it encourages hatred the other way. I don't know if that was intentional or not, but it feels inappropriate in my opinion.
We can discuss the problems outlined without pointing figners.

1) Because the general public is far less progressive than well-meaning liberal forums. (The escapist has a very general 'live and let live' view that is certainly not reflective of the rest of the world.)

2) Unsurprising. Actually, before you are so quick to condemn those people for making such comments, you should stop to think that there isn't actually a lot of information diluted to the public about transgender people or the struggles they go through. That kind of information is only really learnt if you're a member of that community, you know someone going through it or looking it up out of personal interest or curiosity. It's not something occured very often, unlike homosexuality. You could probably name a handful of gay celebrities, but how many transgendered celebrities can you name? Activists don't count; i'm referring to real celebrities. Actors, singers, politicians, etc. Until the public is made to be aware, this kind of reaction is to be expected. I would also like to put forward that this is the internet and people tend to exaggerate their reactions for 'the lulz'. They might say "oh god is that a man or woman" followed by some obscene comment but really they probably do it for a laugh more than anything instead of being intentionally cruel, just like you would probably find jokes about homosexuals or any other minority on the same page. It's just the nature of comment-based content.

3) Because of the way the review is presented (assuming you're referring to the video review). The audience is being made to listen to that person and therefore are going to notice the 'not quite male, not quite female' tone of voice and appearance and comment on it. It's noticeable and for some people it's a little bit off-putting. If it was just a written review and people knew the reviewer was transgendered, i doubt they would care or at least they would probably care far less than they do in the video review comment section. One comment i saw was, in my eyes, legitimate in that "this is the first time a reviewer's voice has annoyed me", as it can be annoying to some since as i said before - it's neither distinctly male nor female (though leaning more towards the male end of the spectrum.) Because the audience is being made to listen and observe the reviewer, they will comment on that person. It's like when i used to argue with my parents why they make such a fuss over the news presenter or anyone else on TV. Their response was "if someone is putting themselves on TV up in the public eye then they put themselves up to public scrutiny as well". The idea was that if you're putting yourself on a camera, people are going to judge you regardless of the content you are delivering or presenting because you are putting yourself "on display" or "on stage".

Not that bad looking.

My level of outrage on this topic is directly related to how overtly transsexual individual X is.

"It" is the transexual N Word (essentially). Though usually offensive, some transexuals dont mind being called shemale or tranny (more likely if they are in porn though). But not "it".

gamespots comment section was never known for insightful discussions. A while back i was watching Carolin's review and got a little confused of its gender but i didn't feel the need to make a comment about it, he/she does a decent job so i don`t really give a crap about anything else.
