What a disappointment...just found the original Hanna-Barbara Godzilla cartoon on Netflix, which I loved in my youth, and was super excited to check it out again, and...well...wow...it's awful.
-> the animation is lazy, the voice acting is terrible, the whole show is nonsensical. (I understand that this show is old Hanna-Barbara, but still. Why did I love this show once?

Any other thoughts about shows that you loved once upon a time, only to rediscover in your 'old-age' were dreadful?

On the other hand, some shows hold up really well (SWAT Kats comes to mind)

When you younger you don't notice flaws with TV shows you liked as a kid, it's only when your grow up that you begin to notice

Pokemon. I used to contend that the first series, at least, was good...

No. No, it wasn't. It was always total crap.

That's very true, but honestly, take a look at Godzilla and tell me that even a child could like it and I'm the queen of England. I mean, Johny Quest is some what disappointing (and a little racist at times), but it still has elements that redeem it.

Tried going back to Thundercats and original He-Man. Storyline and animation doesn't bother me, but voice-acting annoyed me some, I don't know why. He-Man's was still mostly tolerable, Thundercats' had a lot more annoying moments.

Dragon Ball Z.

When I was younger, I was happy watching Goku charge a spirit bomb for 5 episodes and then miss.
I recently went back to watch a few episodes and got bored easily.

Well... where do I begin?... I loved Scooby Doo as a kid, now I just cringe whenever I see it.

For Pokémon, well, I still like the first couple of seasons, when the show made sense(?), now, again, I just cringe at the new episodes, the show just doesn't want to grow up. Ash is still 12 years old and he's quite inconcistant, sometimes he acts like an unbearable brat and sometimes there's a hint of him growing up a bit, but at the next episode, he's obnoxious again.

Many Hanna-Barbera cartoons... they are just plain boring, nothing more, nothing less.

Power Rangers... ughh...

And I think that's it.

Our expectations are lower when we're children, thanks to smaller IQs, shorter attention spans and less complicated expectations.

I used to always watch Invader Zim, but now I change the channel if I see it come on.

I don't think I watched any that didn't hold up at least moderately well. The only one I remember liking that wasn't too good was the original Pokemon series, but I can still stand to watch it, unlike some of the cartoons from back in the day.

imo the ones that still held a high impression for me were the old nickelodeon shows. (e.g. Kenan and Kel, All that, Angry Beavers, etc.) and also some CN (Dexter's Lab)

I either had great taste when I was a kid, or (more likely) I have terrible taste now, because there isn't a single cartoon I used to watch when I was a kid that doesn't hold up for me now (so far). I've actually been looking into quite a few of them recently as well, since a certain recent cartoon made me realise they can still be enjoyable at this age. (No prize for guessing which cartoon that was).

It could also be that I only remember the good ones, but for the moment I just can't think of any.

However, this certainly doesn't apply to stuff I used to watch as a toddler. Things like Teletubbies do not hold up at all.

Thundercats

I spent my entire pre-school to kindergarten life watching this show and thinking that Liono was the biggest bad ass in the universe. Years later Toonami got the syndication rights and I saw that my childhood hero was actually a steroid infused pansy who would sit there begging the enemy for a minute or so to not make him have to resort to violence? Did my brain shut off during these parts when I was younger? Because all I remember is him using sight beyond sight to find the bad guys beat the bad guys, and then laugh at something stupid Snarf said while the credits started.

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. Back as a kid I would watch it for the amazing CGI but now it look awful.
