Not so much a disapointment now but... well... The animation in Bucky O'hare is truely awful, but the thing that got me when I bought the DVD was there was only one season, I remembered it as going on forever, new advetures every week and such like. But no there are only 13 episodes, and then there were some I'd never seen...

Nope. All the shows that are good held up, and all the shows that were bad are still terrible.

I had very high standards as a kid.

Power Rangers... that's all I'm gonna say
Tbh I used to absolutely love power rangers as a great action show when I was a kid.
I watched some episodes again lately, and I have to say they are AMAZING.
The shitty acting, the absolutely god-awful script, the stiff and abysmal fight scenes.
I cannot watch more than one or two episodes of it at a time because I cannot take laughing that much.
Action tv series? not so much
Comedy? Best I've seen in ages.
Lol, very true

Tried going back to Thundercats and original He-Man. Storyline and animation doesn't bother me, but voice-acting annoyed me some, I don't know why. He-Man's was still mostly tolerable, Thundercats' had a lot more annoying moments.
Agreed that the shows themselves have not aged well, but the theme tunes are still awesome. Thundecats espicially

Pokemon. I used to contend that the first series, at least, was good...

No. No, it wasn't. It was always total crap.
This one is the only one that I know. I haven't really gone back and watched many of my old cartoons.

The ones that do still hold up are Samurai Jack and Batman: the Animated Series. Both are still great series.

Hulk/Thor/Spiderman from about 1967 (didn't see them at the time) but watching them recently piss poor animation.

Re-watched 'Captain Bucky O Hare' this morning, really shitty animation (again) static backgrounds, minimal character movement and shitty dialogue.

Hmmm... I am sure there are others that I can't remember.

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. Back as a kid I would watch it for the amazing CGI but now it look awful.
I know, my buddy and I tried watching it and it just reminded us of Reboot - which many people would rather gouge their eyes out than have to remember.

AND only vaguely on topic: but does anyone remember Space Jam? That movie wasn't even made bearable by the GREAT Bill Maury...Bill Maury!

I loved that movie as a kid. I haven't re-watched it in ages. I really don't want to...

Sonic Underground. Good in the 90s, uncool today.

Oh, you lucky bastards who got SatAM instead of that.

Power Rangers: Man is that show annoying. I can't even look at it without cringing, knowing that used to like it at one point in my life.

Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!: The games they advertise in their respective shows are okay. The shows, not so much. At least the latter can be observed through the filter of The Abridged Series. The Pokémon show had some decent stuff up until the start of the Johto arc, after which it became a complete joke, and even then, it's a difficult watch.

IMO Histeria still holds up pretty well. But yeah, I'm not going to defend Bonkers.

Pokemon. Love the games. Forever.

The anime? Cheesy. Cheesy from the very first episode to today. Nowadays, I just ignore it. It's kinda funny to riff on the older episodes, though.

The two that really stand out as not being as good as I remembered would be the first two seasons of Digimon and Transformers Beastwars.

Digimon still has cool monsters and decent characters, and I can live with the less than amazing animation. But the english dub shoves so many bad puns and jokes in that it ruins any serious moments. And do not even get me started on that god awful pop song that starts playing whenever a fight breaks out in the first season. The second season shot it's load at the end of the first arc and aside from a couple cool moments just dragged on to an unsatisfying climax and a horrid distant finale.

I tried watching Beastwars a few months ago and it just isn't that good. Some of the characters are still cool, but the story is mostly lousy and the animation is really bad. I mean it aged horribly.

It was re-runs of He-Man and Thundercats (years after the fact) that made me scared to watch any of my other favourites. But I did see transformers again and, while nothing amazing, I can see why I would have liked it as a kid - but He-man and Thundercats were just terrible. I am now curious to watch some of the other shows to see where I would categorize them. I still maintain that Voltes V is fantastic.
