As opposed to the Kings? I could not slaughter them fast enough for getting on my nerves. You know... After I sucked them dry of quests and stole their cool robot dog.

Although you do bring up another good point in New Vegas' favour; you can slaughter whoever you want.

I could slaughter whoever I wanted in the Capital Wasteland too though.

Maybe I just dislike Elvis impersonators but the way they speak and act all arrogant toward everyone else in Freeside made me shoot them all many times. Rex even help kill them. He was a good dog

I'm just surprised that BF3 was beaten by Pokemon of all things.

I mean sure I know you all hate the "Grey-brown military shooter" in here but come on. It can't possibly be worse than Pokemon which has essentially just been the same game since the first was released for the Gameboy Pocket.

Looks for Dark Souls > Can't find it > Finds Demon's Souls instead > Finds that it has already been knocked out by SSBB > Personal investment lost.

Also this makes me realise how few games I actually play these days; quite a few just pass me by.

RE4 versus Persona 4 is one of the tougher rounds, for sure. Well, for some folks. For me, that one was easy.

I eventually caved and went with Persona 4. Because Persona 4 did not have Ashley.

Then again, it did have Teddie...

As for Metal Gear, it's one of the many, many, many games that had to be cut. Assembling this list of 64 was incredibly hard, and a bunch of really great games had to be left off. But remember, this is all just for fun. Don't think too hard about it.

Ah, that's fair enough. It's an excellent, nicely balanced list even if I would personally have MGS4 up there.

Persona 4 is always the correct choice.

Not to 90% of the Escapist community.

To them any JRPG=the devils games. Does not help it was put up against a game everyones heard of.

Once more I am screwed over for not living in an Anglo-Saxon country. What's up with that? If you can deliver prizes to the UK, surely you can deliver them to any European country. So what's up with the eligbility clause there?

Is there going to be a badge in it for us outsiders (shun them, shun them!) at least? Or something to motivate me beyond the fun of voting and slightly influencing the result?

We're having to ship the stuff ourselves from our office, which is located in North Carolina/USA. Limitations are usually based on international law, not our personal preference.

We include everyone as often as we're able, honestly! Plus, it's still fun to take part, prizes aside.

My thoughts exactly. Seems like a rather odd collection of "important" games.

For example, I'm noticing that some series have several of their games listed, while others have only one. And in some of those cases, the only game listed for those series are arguably the weakest among them. I'm also noticing quite a few game choices that are arguably bad. At least, in so far as being considered, as the contest put it, "important".

I don't know. Something's off about this one. But whatevs. I shall vote away. :/

Oh, and happy 7th Escapist.

Man good for those games that its only the last seven years. Chrono Trigger (just having my once a year play-through on my old SNES ^_^) would devastate them all!. You couldn't sneak the DS Version into the roaster could you?

Anyway I guess one of the valve titles will (understandably) make it. And why not Portal is an awesome game.
My personal favorite of the 64 listed games would be Bioshock.

Interestingly none of the big shooter franchises made it trough the first round. Some faith in humanity has been restored .

So you get to take 64 games from the past 7 years, and yet most of them seem to be released in the past THREE years? Uhu, makes sense (and how do you determine which get to be titled "the best"? Metacritic? Salesrecords?)

They should be very evenly distributed (as far as release date) over the last 7 years. If you take the time to catalog all of them, as we have, that will be evident.

Wasn't worried, per se. Nor was I thinking it was supposed to be "best games ever". I can appreciate that making the list, even from a pool of games from only the last seven years, was a daunting task. Believe me, I do. I just thought it odd that some series were limited to one entry, or omitted all together (see the numerous cries of "where's MGS!?!"), while others received numerous entries. That's all.

I'm not really complaining about the list, as is. I was just pointing out an "anomaly" I was seeing. That's all. I'm still excited to see who wins. I've got my pick but I won't say.

Why are these games not a part of the list:
Link to the past or oot or wind waker - I mean what the hell surely they must have appeared on the escapist at some point and there would only have to be one. Personally though I prefer MM to the rest for some reason.
Original halo > all it's sequels
Bloody skyward sword is where no more heroes should be
Dragon age 2 is there at all instead of probably hundreds of other better games
Half Life 2 episode 1 isn't as good as either plain half life, half life 2 or episode 2

I already know people are going to vote portal as no1
Personally psycho naughts is my favorite game there

This is where I'd put my Halo vote. IF I HAD ONE.

Not too mad though. It would lose from the Escapist users PC majority preference anyway. Also Halo 3 and Reach were the only main ones that would fit the time frame (OMG such a milked series) so I guess a wild card was a bit more interesting than a predictable and deserving, but ultimately doomed one.

However if Halo 2 or CE had been left off the "most important games released" nominations I would've been pissed.
