Why are these games not a part of the list:
Link to the past or oot or wind waker - I mean what the hell surely they must have appeared on the escapist at some point and there would only have to be one. Personally though I prefer MM to the rest for some reason.
Original halo > all it's sequels
older than 7 years...

Fallout 3 for the win!

Yes?
Nope. Terrible main story, meh side quests, dumb ending, the fact Bethesda couldn't even come up with their own antagonist.

Fallout: New Vegas on the other hand, adds to the game without taking away what made previous games great ('cept graphically, since it uses Bethesda's toolset character models still look worse than Fallout 1 and 2, which for any company other than Bethesda is actually quite impressive because that much fail has before been achieved).
It took away from the atmosphere and exploring, which were my favourite parts of F3

Ah was not paying attention
Still No more heroes > skyward sword or bloody hell dragon age 2
Also the OOT or halo re releases are not too shabby considering they don't add anything new to the table
Mass effect is still relevant as well and I'm curious to what others think is the best one
I don't know about three but I value it higher than 2

On another note New Vegas is > fallout 3
Just seem like it has a tighter plot line and is less of a mess than fallout 3 in general
However it is true the huge lonely atmosphere was not captured by new vegas

I voted based on my personal opinion, so obviously my choices shall lose forever. /sarcasm

I like this pole though, I wish there was a better way of figuring out such a thing based on global understanding instead of using a tournament-based voting list. Then again, the list is based on what came out during Escapist's history, so we cannot exactly pull out our Grandpa Shades and talk down to young'uns this time.... this time...

We all know the winner will be some Flavour-of-the-Month crap that will be forgotten in 3 years time (Skyrim, Minecraft etc.) or Portal.

I still voted, but just knowing that the above will happen is disheartening.

Well that atmosphere is ruined by awkward dialogue, one dimensional characters and annoying kids anyway. And vampires. And the illogical factions. And the illogical setting with 200 year old food and villages of 2 people and 1 cow surviving amongst super mutant, enclave and deathclaw armies. And the stupid green filter.

You people didn't vote for Persona 4.

I'm going to go pout now, and be mad at all of you. Harrumph!

Mind telling me why Persona 4 was such an amazing and all around great game that gets love from everyone?

Man good for those games that its only the last seven years. Chrono Trigger (just having my once a year play-through on my old SNES ^_^) would devastate them all!. You couldn't sneak the DS Version into the roaster could you?

Anyway I guess one of the valve titles will (understandably) make it. And why not Portal is an awesome game.
My personal favorite of the 64 listed games would be Bioshock.

Ui surprise Crysis beat Diablo 3. Well it's time to admit it: Blizzard made a bad game!
Interestingly none of the big shooter franchises made it trough the first round. Some faith in humanity has been restored :D .
Actually I think people are just blindly voting against Blizzard for some reason. Diablo III's politics are bad, but the game is really good. I found Crysis to be an excellent tech demo, but a crappy game experience. It was really pretty but soulless.

Also, can anyone explain why Limbo and Bastion are on here? I've tried both games and they're good but hardly triple A contenders and not worth paying for. I understand when people want to down vote a game they have to choose the other no matter what it is, but i'm still not understanding the results.

Hm... quite a few of the ones left I don't particularly care for.

Love Portal and Shadow of the Colossus.

Liked Skyrim and Mass Effect 3.

Not too fond of Fallout 3, Minecraft, Mass Effect 2, and Oblivion.

But I guess that's the way of things, I suppose. Though I'm suprised you didn't have Half-Life 2 on there. Well, there was Episode 1 was, but still...

Eh. I voted against Persona 4. I want to be clear here: I didn't vote for Resident Evil 4, I voted against Persona 4. I have a friend who's obsessed with it, and kept trying to convince me to play it. I was over at his house and we got bored so I decided to try starting it. Two hours later and I had seen maybe ten minutes of anything approaching real game play and an hour and fifty minutes of a blah story. Sure it may get better later, but honestly? If I put in two hours and the game isn't even going to try to get me interested, I'm going to go do something else. I gave the length of time the average movie takes to complete an entire plot and it couldn't be bothered to even finish the opening bit. I'm not saying I want a rushed plot, but when the tutorial doesn't start for an hour and forty minutes there's something wrong.

Persona 4 is always the correct choice.
Yes! :D

Yes. Yes it is.

o_o
And the fact that Persona 3 is my favorite game ever does not at all make me biased in any way.

I think the way the games were matched together did screw some really good games out of the place they deserved. Like no place Zelda or Okami? No Deus Ex? Even these last few are getting a bit of a rough deal. Putting up SotC against Skyrim is a really hard one for me personally. I had to go with Skyrim though since I've played it more and it's just got more to it as a game, but I feel really bad for choosing it over such a classic. Conversely it was easy to vote for Oblivion over ME2. I had to because I really don't like the ME games, but I feel bad for chossing both TES games. They're both amazing but I'd rather have to choose between them and allow other games the chance they deserve.

But hey, whatever. It doesn't really make any difference. It's just a pointless poll on a gaming site. And I knew it was going to be unfair right from the beginning. It's impossible to do these 1 vs. 1 voting things fairly anyway.

Half-Life 2 came out more than seven years ago, so it wasn't eligible.

A 100% fair complaint. You don't get into your first fight for at least two hours, so most of the time you're just watching and hitting the X button to advance the dialog. What follows is a very engaging JRPG, but it's not at all unreasonable to have lost patience with it and given up.

Round 4 already? You guys kind of went stealth mode on this event, didn't you? I kind of lucked into round 2 by accident while checking the forums, but both it and round 3 passed by totally unannounced from what I could see.
