Castlevania

So Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is out and being the CV fan I am I bought it immediately (Limited edition, got a bitchin' t-shirt) and I was wondering how many people have also bought/rented/whatevered it, and what you think about it.

Basically here's my questions:

Have you gotten Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and if so what do you think of it
Are you a long time CV fan
If yes to second question how do you think this new one holds up compared to previous titles

And another thing, I fucking love it. Though if you aren't a previous fan you might not like it or think it's a god of war rip off, but if you weren't a fan before why did you get it now? Anyway I love it and recommend anyone interested to at least rent it.

I'll have to get it this weekend, how is the exploration? Or is it linear?

It's linear in the sense that you "Start here" and "End here" but everything in between is pretty much up to you. The beggining chapter spends it's time teaching you how to play then slowly gives you more freedom to roam around.

Long story short you can explore around inside certain levels and you can go back and visit previous levels in case you missed something. I'm still pretty early in the game (2nd chapter out of 12) but I once had a level that had paths that branched out left and right then branched out further left and right and so on.

So yeah enough room to roam around but there's still a "Main" path that you're expected to follow if you want to get to the next level.

Oh and another thing it takes place mostly outside of the castle, and I fucking love it. I had gotten so tired of the castle I like it being out of reach, I like fighting just to get in and having a REAL challenge fighting my way to the big bad boss.

He's directing it. I don't know what Souplex's problem is; Hideo Kojima is fantastic. And I heard great things about it, but I'm saving my money for the New Vegas Special Edition.

Hold on, you mean rent New Vegas? No way. I wouldn't rent any of those games. They're all way too long. Apparently Castlevania is massive and New Vegas... I mean, come on. That's a game you just need to buy because you'll never be able to explore it all. Fable 3, I don't know, I never played Fable but from what I've heard it's long as well. I hate how they release all these huge games at the same time and during the summer nothing comes out.

Number 1: I'm a favorite at my Blockbuster
Number 2: I got a deal going on with them

Basically I pay them some amount once a month or so and they let me keep a game as long as I want. But yeah I will be buying New Vegas sometime but not this month at least.

Also yes CV is pretty big 12 chapters and about 9 levels per chapter with each lvl netting me between 10-30 min (That actually depends on difficulty as well).

As for Fable 3 I dunno, judging by the second one I could finish it in a day, going by the first it'll take a little less than a week but still quite a bit.

Last thing, I hate that "Summer Drought" shit too, it's fucking stupid.

He feels cutscenes are a substitute for gaming, primarily makes stealth games, writes bad stories, and needs to get back to Boktai, as it's the only worthwhile thing he's made.

I'm not saying he did a bad job,it's more like he "changes" it into something else,though they're still great but they're not something the core fan of the series are looking forward to.

I was really nervous about lords of shadows because he seems to lack the element of castlevania that I actually enjoyed, namely the RPG stuff, Portrait of ruin, Symphony of the night, those types. Level system, constant gear upgrades, all that good jazz, this one seems to just be a hacko slasho god of war clone with the standard "Souls" you get from killing stuff that you use to buy more useless combo's. Theres nothing wrong with those kind of games, but I always targetted castlevania as an RPG fix v.v..

I still fail to see why New Vegas is so desired, it looks like they remade Fallout 3. (Don't say it is being made by the people who made the originals because NO IT ISN'T they have like 3 people who worked on the originals working for Obsidian)
