Gralian said pretty much what I was going to say.

So far we've seen a few short, vague, and very confusing videos, and now we're seeing box art. And yet the Escapist seems to feel the need to harp on about this game like it's some kind of epic blockbuster about to happen. Surely there are more interesting and substantial game stories to report on.

This plus the Michael Bay style hype-fest shoehorning of apocalypse scenarios into every story that involves robots, alien life, etc, makes me think that it's time that the Escapist finished adolescence and grew up into a real adult gaming news site. Constantly aiming for the low hanging fruit is getting a bit old.

Somehow I doubt that the overly conservative asshats at the ESRB would let this fly, come to think about it Catherine being a game about sex and relationships I doubt that it would even slip past them with an M rating.

I'll be honest, the box art is a huge turn off for me. I'm not a prude about the content, I just don't like how it looks and how is this a horror game again with a guy, his girlfriend and some strange lady?

I know that it's not some sim porn and they are taking the content seriously but where's the horror in the game cause right now this doesn't look scary at all.

Atlus had better localize this!!!! And include their usual bonuses like a soundtrack CD.

I really like the 360 box-art...I'm don't like Catherine nearly as much as Katherine.

So many people don't seem to grasp what this game is about. That's fine, I'm not looking down on anyone for not knowing.

Essentially this is an action-puzzler horror game about a man suffering from nightmares after he cheats on his girlfriend (Katherine) with a sultry bar girl (Catherine)

The game moves between playing Vincents daily life by texting people and getting drunk with your buddies and then the more action oriented sequences are at night during the nightmares.

A lot of people are acting like this is going to be some sort of Heavy Rain style cinema game but that really doesn't seem to be the case. (although the developers did refer to the game as sort of an independant film style game)

It's not like Heavy Rain though because from what little we've seen it doesn't seem like the closest this game gets to action are quick time events.

This game isn't trying to light the world on fire, it's just Atlus making a game that they wanted to make. I find it both amusing and a little sad that people are actually upset by The Escapist taking an interest in this game.

Someone said they need to grow up and report on real games? What does that even mean? Would the Escapist be better if they just talked about the inevitable games that are gonna be gracing GameInformers covers for the next year and a half.

If you don't like what games the folks at the escapist choose to discuss, go make your own site, or as an easier alternative, shutup

Why is it that Atlus is the only guys that have ever been mature on the issue of sex, sexuality, or anything related in the ENTIRE gaming industry?
Because they don't make a big deal out of it. They just DO IT.

Lighten up, Francis. If you're looking for intelligent and adult commentary on games that pretty much surpasses any other site out there, then try the weekly magazine. Our news stories are meant to entertain as much as they are to inform, and we have fun with them. Unless you'd rather we do screenshot posts or news updates every time a celebrity of note is seen in public with gaming apparel? I mean, we COULD do that, but we'd really rather not.

On topic: if you really count less than ten stories [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/tag/catherine] as "harping," we're harping on it because it is a game that we, as adults, find absolutely fascinating based on the little we know. It's an adult-focused game from a developer that's previously tackled mature concepts in a thought provoking matter that looks to be about interesting human relationships and one's sexual identity. That? That's plenty adult to me, when compared to "say the right things to get into her pants" a la Mass Effect or "press x to hump" a la God of War (both excellent games in their own right).

Personally I'm just happy that Catherine is coming out for the 360. I keep hearing enough about Atlus games from Kathleen De Vere via LRR podcasts that my inability to play Persona 4 is starting to get really irritating.

As for the box art, if this game is even half as good as both Atlus's reputation and the precious little morsels of game details we've seen let on I would gladly buy a copy of the game with that over-the-top cover art regardless of what kind of looks I would get.

I'm excited for this game, apart from the slightly pervy box art. But it does look interesting.

Off topic: Oh god you linked me to TV Tropes.

I've watched the Extra Credit, it is quite good and finds a nice middle ground between people like me and the ones that will love this game for its themes.

Why isn't Team Fortress 2 art? I don't want to start another rant, so I won't. Games like TF2, CoD, and Halo all have a place in gaming.

Lastly, it's nice to see somebody else can both respect and disagree with my opinion. Thanks.
Oh, I didn't mean it like that, TF2 is certainly "art" in it's own right, CoD and Halo to. It's just that, you know, those games aren't really trying, ya know? Nothing wrong with that, not every game needs to try to be the "Mona Lisa" of gaming, but you get the idea.

I'm under the belief that there's no "Art" and "Not Art", just "Good Art" and "Bad Art". While TF2, CoD, Halo, etc... aren't bad games by any means, they're not exactly the most profound or "artistic" kinds of games out there. Not "bad art", but then again they're not trying to be, but whatever.

BUT ANYWAY, back on topic, it's fine if you are not interested in this game, but hopefully you understand why other people would be. Like I said, I trust Atlus to handle the subject maturely, and from what I have played of Persona 3: FES and Demons' Souls, they're not bad at making a game either :D

I feel stupid for not realizing this on Atlus's part, well done, they just do it.

If I'm swayed by a few more of their games, they may go on my "List of Developers to Support" list.

After watching this [http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tgs-10-catherine/704757] trailer for it, my interest in this game went way up.

Looks like a good erotic psychological thriller. But Japanese and really freakin' weird.

How the hell am I going to get this in the house with my parents around? For once I hope they do change the box art for the States, not that I don't find it intoxicating.

Like I've said, I like the horror elements, but the cheap sex appeal is enough to keep me away for now.
Actually, I wouldn't say cheap, but I'm not one for games that use "IT HAS BOOBIES IN IT!" as a marketing device. I'm usually okay with games that do, but sometimes I can't help but feel if the game gets praised that it is due to aformentioned breasts.
Still, I must salute this game, as it apparently has a giant blood covered baby doll and sheep people. That's weird enough to generate my approval.
