Okay, now I'm interested.

I mean, I was curious about this game before, but now it seems like it's something I would enjoy. I love games that try to do something a little different, this seems to make an effort.

Captcha: tentairi approaches

Wooooooooo, scary. Make sure he brings cake.

-A standard-sized pillowcase featuring Catherine in lingerie.
Umm... I know anime girl body pillows exist in Japan... but... do they exist in America? ...If they do, do we openly admit they exist? Do we want to?

Well, it's twenty bucks for a shirt, boxers and a pillow case. Pound per pound, not a bad deal, even if they are all low quality crap.

The "trinkets from a game" factor makes it fun...

So just to clarify. Catherine is like a hentai game about relationships that does not include pornography? This...I can't even begin to explain what's wrong with this.
There's nothing wrong with it. You don't have to buy this :)

This is frustrating me now. WHAT THE FUCK EVEN IS IT? I don't even know the genre. All I've seen are pictures of those two girls and Shaggy from Scooby Doo, I haven't seen even a single hint to it actually being a game other than that it's on the Escapist, but people are shitting their pants over it.
WHY?
Anime art style aside the game is pretty much brocken up into two groups of play.
During the day time Vincent (you) will live a normal life as kind of like of a dating sim (like Persona 4 social links?) You hang out at the local bar or hang out with friends trying to handle the relationships of two women with expressed interest in you. Your able to save/read/recieve text messages with either women, play mini games, order drinks, and even listen to Persona music tracks at a jukebox.

During the night when you fall asleep is when the 'gaming' part pretty much begins. Your dressed as a half man/sheep in a dark twisted maze like world with a small group of inhibited men around you as sheep also. There are a series of platformed towers around you and the goal is to ascend them as quickly and smoothly as possible whilst the castles and platforms behind you plumment into darkness. There will be traps along the way like spikes,Ice, and other potential elemental hazards that Vincent can jump, pull, push, and manuever around to advance. During gameplay, there will be items like 1-Ups, teddie bears that give health, and weapons to be used in order to destroy foes blocking your path. Each level has multiple areas that culminate in an epic boss battle that must be won before you can wake up.

If you die in the dreams, Vincent dies in reality and its game over. There are small RPG-esque character development mechanics in the game that will change the way other characters and your women view Vincent as a person. Decisions as to how you respond and interact with NPC's and insignificant events steer a non-linear choice system leading to multiple various endings.

Katherine

This is your fiancee. A 32 year old middle-managment employee at a clothing store. Your born in the same town and meet up years later at a college reunion. She wants to get married with you and later on gets pregnant with your child. Poor Vincent, just wants to live a free life and isn't keen on the idea of marriage so he might be a bit miserable. Katherine's pretty much a more conformed, tighter, and more realistic version of the kind of woman he sees living his life with no responsibilities with.

Catherine

An attractive 22 year old woman with a pretty face and mysterious origin. You meet her at a bar one night after dealing with Katherine and her personality is a lot more in common in what Vincent is looking for. She's definately more free-spirited and less reserved than his fiancee, but strangely after meeting Catherine you begin to experience deadly nightmares soon afterwards in your dreams.

This game has a different style than most are used to and most importantly is something new and fresh. So finally to quote one of my favorite characters from Bioshock I leave you with this.

"Go ahead, don't be afraid, touch it."

It's ridiculous. It's like buying a chocolate bar-free Hershey bar: all you get is the insect legs.

I think this one just removed Record of Agarest War from the top. Wow...
no. no it didn't. remember the mouse-pad? the mouse-pad WITH BOOBS?!?!
Indeed, but this one has underwear. And a rather disturbing pillow case...for grown men.
Record of agarest war had a disturbing pillowcase for grown men. and there is no pizza in the pizza box. it'll just make you hungry. not to mention the box that record of agarest war's really naughty limited edition came in. not to mention if you didn't know about the game you would just think the boxers were just normal boxers.

The T-shirt is nice, but the rest of those are.. kind of weird. Even for me. Would prefer the CD + artbook version.

Of course, Amazon doesn't want to ship either one to me. VGP does, nevermind.
Actually the Love is Over edition (t-shirt and such) comes with the artbook and CD. No matter what, if you pre-order Catherine you get the artbook and CD. So no worries. : )

It is a puzzle platformer/dating sim.

The worst part about this for me, is
1) I'm trying to quit gaming. Fair trade is fair, Give up Gaming, Gain Social Life.
2) It's released on my birthday.

So where do you pre-order it? (Yeah, I have no idea if someone already asked this...)

I checked Gamestop but they only said that there's one version to pre-order that comes with the soundtrack and artbook by default, I think.

Somehow I'm still unsure whether to just giggle, or seriously suspect that the developer is just fucking with its customers. I mean... men's large boxers were decided upon as "fits the demographic best"?
That would make one suspect it's a bit of a snide comment, until you realise what the implications would be if they included women's underwear.
Now that would make for some interesting faces.
