My first instinct would be Loghain from dragon age, but I'm not sure if that counts because I'm pretty sure that was the point of the character.

On a more conventional note through ME1 I really hated Ashley to the point where I only let her live on virmire for the innevitable survivors guilt (ok and while I didn't hate kaidan thought he was kinda boring). Then in ME2 (and continued in ME3) when she showed up and started calling out Shep on working with cerberus, or basically saying what I had been thinking through that half of the game, I was so happy to see her direct her aggression to something I could support. I then grew to like her more in ME3 with the arc she went through in ME3 where she eventually forgave Shep, was past the whole racism thing and was finally a well rounded character.
yeah, Loghain does have his reasons

but in the end unfortunatly its "companion whos a bit of an ass but has stuck by me all this time" OR "asshole whos almost fucked everything up"

gotta go with alistair

never got thr ahsly hate..I always liked her more than Kaiden..but killed her everytime (because of romance) that'll change though I think
I'm split between Alistair and Loghain on playthroughs. Sure Loghain did bad things, but he had his reasons and he would have acted alot differently had it been common knowledge that only a grey warden can slay the archdemon, what can I say I believe he deserves a second chance. As for Alistair, yeah he's generally a nice guy but his moral code at times is too rigid (considering the wardens openly recruit murderers and blood mages)especially towards Loghain needing to be killed. So ultimately it's a tough call and I usually just do a mental coin flip lol

As for the Ashley hate it's mainly due to the fact of her poorly concealed racism in ME1, which luckily dissapears in later games

exactally, I will say Logain caused me kind of take a few stpes back..untill the point I HATED the bastard

I can see why Alistair annoys some people...but in the end its not about who I like more, but the fact that I cant be abondoned by my compaion who has been there since day 1, my only other fellow warden, honour before reasona and all

as for ashley..I never saw her as an outright "racist" more distrustful of humans

though there is some hilarious "miss matched" dialouge...in a debreifing after a mission Liara makes a suggestin to wich ashley rudly snaps "who asked YOU *derogarory remark or somthing*"

then when you go and talk to ashley after she says "you might wanna go chekc on liara..she lost her mother, that cant be easy"

Donna in Doctor Who... she started out very annoying, but now I think she is one of the best companions the doctor has had. She had such a good dynamic with the doctor.

Well I find Loghains story pretty compelling by the end but everyones entitled to their interpretation. As for 'abandoning' Alistair, I would have more sympathy for him (don't get me wrong I still like tha character alot) if he wasn't the one forcing the ultimatum and failing to forget the philosophy of the wardens ie stopping the darkspawn at all costs.

On a side note that mismatched Ashley dialogue sounds pretty funny and adds to my reasons to do another ME1 run lol

Well I hated both Edward and Alphonse at the beginning of Fullmetal Alchemist, I'm not sure why, but they really annoyed me, now considering I was 15 when I watched that the fact that back then I was a lot like Edward [small](Specially the height thing)[/small] made me empathize with him more and after 5 episodes I started liking them, I guess I was just the right demographic.

Bayonetta as a character at first. Then they actually pull off the "ironic sexiness" angle without it coming off as a thin justification for having her lose her clothes every ten seconds. It's like she's so hypersexualised she ceases to be sexy about five minutes into the game... If that makes sense.

Plus she adjusts her glasses with the business end of a pistol... Who can argue with that awesomeness?

Also Lulu from League of Legends. Tried her out a few times just cuz I heard she has good support and damage output. I was prepared to have to put up with an annoying squeaky little fairy voice.

"Yup, that tasted purple! :3"

She's now my main. It was cemented after a teammate made a grievous error when rushing a tower guarded by a late game Master Yi (what were you thinking?!) and I had to throw a lightning fast Wild Growth at her to save her. I don't think she was expecting to make it out of there alive even for a second. Fairy intervention bitches!

Are you talking about the original Battlestar Galactica, or the new one. I ask because I have not seen the original, and in the new show Gaius Frakking Baltar is the worst thing ever. I think like 90% of all the people who died in that series died because of his penis. Then an additional 5% at new Caprca. I think if any ending to something needs to be changed, its to what happened to baltar.

Anyway, in the early episodes of Deep Space 9 I really hated Julian Bashir. He kind of reminded me of Baltar, witch to me is like someone reminding me of Hitler. Lucky, he stopped harassing Dax and became a likable character.

Same here. Do you think he was designed that way? All main (and not so main) characters on DS9 had a character arc, after all, and Basheer's arc was the biggest of them all, in my opinion.

Quite a few to think about:

Sten. He really became one of my favorite companions as the game progressed, though I found him dull and unappealing at first. I completely fell in love with the character after his last line when you talk to him at the end of the game... you know what it is.

Grunt. I love that freakin' bastard. I never really liked the whole "Ima badass because... I just am." at first, especially when he thought he could take Shepard, but I found him to be pretty useful in firefights. So as I used him more I started to love his personallity, especially when the whole "puberty thing" started and ended.

Alistair. I liked him from the beginning. Though its probably because I see a bit of myself in him as a jokster that doesn't always say the most "appropriate" thing at the right times.

Boromir from LoTR. For a long time I thought he was an arrogant jerkass, and his 'sacrifice' did not nearly absolve him in my books.

But then after a while he grew on me, and now I consider him at the very least flawed, but still good hearted.

Now Denethor on the other hand can piss off.

Agree with this.

I started off really disliking his character but he grew on me. I found myself wanting him and Caprica 6 to get together.

My opinions on Boomer changed a lot as well. One minute I liked her then she screwed Chief over and took the baby then she gave the baby back (her character was a bit backwards). Felt a bit bad when Athena shot her. .... sorry <<<< spoiler there for those that haven't seen Galactica.

Ezio from AC2, ACB and ACR. There was never that much wrong with him, I just very much preferred Altair and wanted to continue his adventures, so I took out my anger by dislking the new protagonist. By the end of ACR, my opinion of him is very good, but I still liked Altair more, since he went from arrogant badass to humbled hero.

I can't think of any other characters, since my opinion on characters rarely changes from the first impression.

Let see-
Vegeta. I originally thought he was cold blooded killer (like when he destory that insect planet) that is until I met Freiza. Also he became interesting after he got his arse kicked by Goku.

Pinkie Pie (yes you read that right). Now let me explain-
When I first watch the first two pliot episode when I wasn't a brony, I thought she was annoying during that scene with the party inside the treehouse. To me she pretty much fit the annoying random character quota like many other cartoon shows. HOWEVER once I started watching more episodes she became a much more likeable since she was showing more randomness in a good and funny way.

Zuko from Avatar to a certain extent. I mean he did set fire to the Kyoshi Warriors village and stole Katara necklace. Of course once he learn more about him and his interation to his Uncle Iroh (who is loveable), he became more interesting.

Bast or Jaime lannister (From name of the wind and A song of ice and fire) they both seemed to be premature dickmonkeys at first, generally taking the dickish option, but then you either get a POV or a bit of insight, and i ended up really liking both of them.

Especially Jaime.

He's my idol.

Louise from Familiar of Zero. Yes, she is and always will be a massive *****. People will always be in their right minds to hate her. I did at first, too. I, however, grew to like her after looking deeper into her character. She has a reason for being a Tsundere, which is something that most anime writers fail to put in. While her reasons don't justify her behaviour, they give them a framing device. Like Kratos.

You see, Louise is a failure both as a mage and, by extension, a noble. As a result, she has no friends or people who support her (at least, within her immediate vicinity) and she's ridiculed as a "zero" on a regular basis, even by her immediate family. The fact that she's... physically less-gifted than most of her peers is only icing on the cake. She doesn't want to be the bottom rung in a society that Familiar of Zero is set in. She's incredibly aggressive because she wants to have power over something, anything. She snaps back often because she's trying to convince herself that she is better, that she's not a zero.

This is why she's so ecstatic that she was capable of summoning Saito; not only can she actually perform magic that doesn't blow up, she also has something that she has power over. She treats Saito harshly because he is the one thing she has power over in this world and she does not want to give that up.

Another thing of note is that Saito is a very positive influence on her; not only does he improve her self-esteem by leaps and bounds by befriending her and supporting her (being a legendary familiar may also be helping), he falls in love with her, despite having the attention of many other more beautiful and kinder women. He is the one pedestal she has. While her actions aren't getting much better, she's an emotionally healthier person because of him.

I would say Garrus but looking at the dialogue that's intentional on Bioware's part. Not even Tali gets as much spotlight as he does. I still didn't like him much in ME1, thought he was really dull on Paragon and only tolerable on Renegade.

I guess Isaac from Dead Space 2, he still wasn't the best protagonist in the world but at least he developed through the game.

I quite liked Julian. He was a witty, jolly, fellow.

I think I'm going to go with Sadako from Ring. At first she seemed like a monstrous force of death and horror but by the end you realised she just needed a cuddle.

title explains it really

for me its Jack from Mass effect

I didnt "dislike" her at any point..she just annoyed me for some reason, like she was "evil" and miserable the whole time and there wasnt much you could do about it

the real turning point was in ME3

[spoiler/] where you find she is now an insctructor at grissham academy, helping her students [/spoiler]

this actually made me really, really happy she had found her place in the universe, and was doing well

and this charachter development made me like her alot more..hell even looking back at ME2
Lol Jack was the only character to die in the ME2 suicide mission for me (THANKYOUFUCKEDUPMORALITYSYSTEM) so I never met her again :(

OT: I can't think of many. I guess you could say Liara. I didn't dislike her at first but I found her a little annoying at first, and she was my favourite character in the series by the end of ME1, let alone the whole series. ME2 and ME3 made me like her even more.
