I said FFX, not Kingdom Hearts. Two different games, two different characters.zeldakong64 said:Rikku's a dude D:James_Sunderland said:Rikku from FFX.
Pretty much all of my friends hate her (two exceptions though).
I'd have to say Nathan Drake from Uncharted (although Yahtzee's the only one I've actually heard complaining about him)
Wait...there are people who don't like Dante!?Halo Fanboy said:Dante from the Devil May Cry series. I think he's cool and fairly unique for a video game protaginist.
I love Rikku, favorite character in the game. Her cheerful and bubbly attitude was always highly entertaining. Unfortunately she was reverted to a dumb blond in Final Fantasy X-2.James_Sunderland said:Rikku from FFX.

He's one of the most complex and compelling characters to ever come out of a Final Fantasy game, and I can't for the life of me understand why certain gamers insist on hating him.strife.midgarrock.org said:When players are first introduced to Cloud, he is cool, confident and cocky. He is the tough, uncaring mercenary who will take any job so long as it pays well.
Or so he'd like to think.
Cloud is actually two people: who he wants to be and who he truly is. One persona, the first we meet, is carefully crafted from his war-hero fantasies and his late -- and only -- friend. He wants respect, he wants to be loved, and thanks to a childhood saturated with war stories, the only way he knows how is to be the cool jerk. He reasons that people will like him for his abilities and icy attitude under pressure; that's the sort of figure he was trained to look up to, and now he is attempting the emulate it. The other Cloud -- the real Cloud -- is a little different.
"A big part of Cloud's character -- one that is often overlooked even by Cloud himself -- is just how genuinely nice he is. For all his craziness and attempts to feign indifference, Cloud really is a sweetheart, and the fact that he feels pressured to hide it is unfortunate. Even if he doesn't know how to express his affections, he constantly -- almost unconsciously -- puts the people around him before himself. He is willing to subject himself to total humiliation -- cross-dressing for chrissakes! -- to make sure Tifa and Aeris are alright. He sacrifices AVALANCHE's advantage to protect Barret's young daughter, and eventually steps in as a -- admittedly clumsy -- substitute father figure when Barret is unable to stay with her.
Even when he leaves his friends and family in Advent Children, it is ultimately done to better the whole. Although his logic is not particularly sound, protecting the people he loves is the first thing on his mind--even as he dies. Maybe there's no hope for him, but he doesn't want to burden his friends in his final days. Cloud doesn't want to sadden them with his situation; he knows he's made Tifa suffer before, sitting at his bedside while he wasted away from Mako Poisoning, and he sees how much she worries and waits over Denzel. He doesn't want to do that to her -- to any of the people he loves -- again, and worst of all, he can no longer offer any protection in return for their constant support.
Cloud's need to be the protector is nothing short of a complex stemmed from years of abuse in his adolescence. Such harsh origins might make his intentions appear to be warped at first, and maybe they are to a degree. The fact that this desire consumes him so much that he feels completely useless if he isn't protecting something is not healthy, but it doesn't change the fact that such a desire drives him. Protecting someone makes him feel needed, like he's doing something to justify his existence, and -- occasional doubts aside -- it's something he does very well. With his training in battle and sincere love for those around him, such a role is certainly fitting. When we finally see him happy -- at "home", as he puts it -- it is largely because he is able to offer his protection to people he cares about; he helps to take care of two children who need, love, and look to him for said protection. It's a perfect fit.

Both of these. I think it's unfair that people who hate JRPGs complain about unrealistic protagonists, but when they act more human, like Tidus in FFX, or Capell in Infinite Undiscovery, people complain that they're too cowardly. Well if I was given a sword on my 18th and told I'm old enough to go kill monsters, I'd be pretty scared too you know.Bourne said:I love Rikku, favorite character in the game. From the same game I would say Tidus. Many people seemingly despise him, whereas I found him to be one of the most compelling and realistic character in terms of development in the series.
Precisely my reasoning. I cannot comment on Capell given I have yet to play IU however in the case of Tidus, you consider he was warped from his essential paradise-esque universe where he was a star athlete, living within the largest metropolis in the world, hailed by mostly everyone and suddenly his entire world is shattered in an instant and he is brought to a whole new world, told his city has been in ruin for a thousand years and no one can possibly help him return.OniSuika said:Both of these. Anyway, on topic. I wasn't so aware so many people hated Reaver from Fable 2. I thought he was excellent. It was Hammer who got on my nerves if any of them, seeing as she didn't really do anything other than, well, carry a hammer.
Thank you sir, my thoughts exactly. It's sad how the extreme popularity of FF7 has also been it's main characters major downfall. I get too sick of hearing people chalk Cloud up to being "emo" when they barely understand his character. They more often than naught didn't pay attention or are too blinded by their own bias/hatred for the genre. Hell there has not ever been an "emo" character in the entire franchise, and i will even step forward and defend Squall despite how much hate I have for 8.Space Spoons said:Post of epic win
