This is my first ever post (I think) on this website and I just had to say something. If I'm wrong so be it but, I thought that Nathan Drake is a popular character, yet all the way through Unchartered 2 (which was great), I just wanted to hit that guy so hard it hurt. I've had the same knee jerk reaction to Brody (is that his name? Far Cry 3 "dude"). Although I'll admit it may be more his ridiculous haircut.

You hate CHRONO?

The guy's a standard-issue generic protagonist deliberately devoid of defining personality traits! He basically exists only to function as the player's cursor for interacting with the game world! They made him as bland as a 2X4 in a clown wig specifically so the vast majority of players would be able to project their own personality onto him!

Yeah, I can easily see how one might find Chrono boring or underdeveloped, but how do you manage to actually dislike him? Would you care to elaborate?

[small]Was it something he said? (Sorry, couldn't resist.)[/small]

Keima Katsuragi from "The World God Only Knows", I can't stand that guy, he's horrible to women and when they try to do nice things for him, he's a complete arse.

Catelyn Stark. Know-it-all busybody caused more trouble than she was worth.
Eddard Stark, he has nooooo flexibility in his moral reasoning. He just a self righteous fool.
True. He did cause a lot of his own troubles and his sons aren't much better. Honestly the only redeeming person in the family is Arya.
What makes you say that? Jon and Sansa (post AGoT) are both rational and reasonable. Much more so than Arya.
Jon isn't a Stark, he's a Snow, he doesn't count.

I HATE all the Starks, and Jon Snow too. I WANT to hate Tyrion because...well, he's so un-Lannister like and I'm a HUGE Lannister fan. I met GRRM at a book signing and was 1/300 fans wearing a Lannister shirt. HEAR ME ROAR.

Any fucking moe character in anime. I can't work out for the life of me why anyone would find that kind of person cute or attractive in the slightest... that said, most of the character archetypes in anime are completely predictable and utterly unbelievable. Except Archer from Fate/Stay Night. He's a badass.

Hell, I'll be that person.

The "MLP: FiM" cast.

Now, before you Bronies start lighting up the torches, grabbing the pitchforks, and loading the double-barrels... keep in mind that I've got nothing actually against the fanbase. I just don't understand its fascination with the show. Trust me, I've tried watching it - I figured I might as well since it's already pretty much everywhere - I just couldn't get into it with the kind of fervor that everyone else has.
You know, you could have just described your dislike of the characters, without going on a little tirade directed at us.

First off, while Jon is a bastard, he is Eddard's (or Lyanna's) child, so I think he counts when we are talking about Starks. Secondly, your point about Tyrion is plain wrong. He's as Lannister as a Lannister can be. This is even straight up told to us by by his aunt (Genna):

"Jaime, sweetling, I have known you since you were a babe at Joanna's breast. You smile like Gerion and fight like Tyg and there's some of Kevan in you, else you would not wear that cloak...but Tyrion is Tywin's son, not you. I said so once to your father's face, and he would not speak to me for half a year."

Tyrion is very Lannister like and it's ok to love him (though Jaime's still better).

p.s. Your Avatar makes you an awesome person.

The cast of Entourage. Just a bunch of smug assholes. I wouldn't have a problem with that except they're just not funny or entertaining enough to make up for it.

Rainbow Dash. Well, "hate" is too strong a word, but she's definitely at the bottom for me. It's a shame, because I normally like tough and somewhat jerky tomboy characters like her and when I first started checking out MLP, I found myself liking her most. But as I watched more episodes, I just found her cockiness and arrogance more and more annoying. It really doesn't help that she's overrated as all hell among the MLP fandom.

I also hate her Sonic Rainboom, especially since it was revealed to be the catalyst behind the origin stories of all the other characters, which is just such a Mary-Sue thing to do. That just left a bad taste in my mouth and forever ruined the character for me.

Brian Griffin. I just hate it whenever he spews his preachy bullshit. When Quagmire called him out on all his bullshit, I practically stood up and applauded.

Sorry but... Fluttershy is worst pony. She does have her moments but for the most part she's just a doormat. I just don't find the shy, quiet, vulnerable female archetype likeable at all.

In high school I was surrounded by guys who idolized Master Chief. I never want to see that helmet again.

Every single Firefly character, mainly because I couldn't tell them apart.

The main guy, Mal Whatever, is apparently considered one of the "greatest anti-heroes ever." Then I suppose that must count for the rest of the Serenity crew:

You've got Mal; he's a badass.

You've got the rest:

The snarky, untrusting badass, the female badass and the rest; also badasses. Except that one really annoying chick, who kind of switched between annoying and badass on occation.

And then there's Serenity. Now we've got:

That one villain: The no-name guy... who is also a badass, apparently.

And River. The badass with an emotional complex. Revolutionary.

I don't know if I'm a minority on this, or if I simply didn't "get" the characters; I just didn't care about them. Maybe I don't understand the series as a whole. I just couldn't get into it, or Joss Whedon's work in general. There's just something about his writing that doesn't "pull me in."

Aw, why are you hating on Trixie? Sure she was annoying, but she wasn't THAT annoying (at least to me).

Anyway:

1. Peter Griffon (Family Guy)
2. Homer Simpson (Simpsons)
3. Every single character from Twilight

I agree that she was.. well, she wasn't great in FFVII but I actually liked her in Crisis Core.

OT: I think Lydia from Skyrim's already been said but I just never got on with her, she doesn't really have a personality of her own other than 'I will follow you whatever you do.'

I found her to have no real positive personality traits, yet she's idolized by fans for no particular reason, to where 2 of my friends say she's their favorite character. I dont even get it.

Rachel from Batman Begins/The Dark Knight.

What Bruce saw in that passive aggressive annoyance I don't know(though Maggie Gyllenhall did make her a lot more bearable than she was in the first movie), but I almost cheered aloud in the theater when she died... I hated the character that much.

I always find it funny in these threads, because most of the characters hated are almost always from series with loud, die-hard fans. I can't help but think that it's not the characters that people actually dislike, but the fanbases that make them feel more annoying.

Just once, can't we have an "X you love that everyone else hates" thread? Just once? No? We have to keep up the endless cycle of negativity here on The Escapist? Sheesh, I'm surprised Game Grumps isn't hosted here.
So true, but to be honest if we did that then it'd still be flooded with people answering posts with "Omg why do you like that character they suck".

That's the way of the internet sadly.

I don't know if people actually love her but Katniss from The Hunger Games, I haven't actually seen the movie yet but in the second and third books she's really irritating and quite badly written.

One minute she's the fearless heroine, next she hates everything, then she's afraid, then she's selfless but selfish at the same time. Her personality totally flip-flops and all she does is complain. I get that she's probably trying to portray a troubled teenager flung into a difficult situation but Katniss has these big epiphany moments, only to completely forget about them two pages later. It makes her really unlikable.
It was annoying wasn't it, she actually devolves as the story progresses.

Really? If that were the case then he'd have told everybody about the fact that Cersei's children were born of incest, he'd have told the truth about Jon Snow, and wouldn't (as far as we know) have had an affair to father him.

Those are rather flexible morals considering he is otherwise extremely honourable.

L from Deathnote

Pompous prick, also he has no personality whatsoever, and is regarded as if he is the einstein of our age amongst deathnote fanboys.
