Hell, I'll be that person.

The "MLP: FiM" cast.

Now, before you Bronies start lighting up the torches, grabbing the pitchforks, and loading the double-barrels...
...You realize if a brony reacts on the way that you just described, they're not a brony right?
Whatever experiences you've had with bronies, if you think we're like that...then I'm sorry to say that you haven't met a genuine brony yet ^_^
As a fan of MLP:FIM but someone who doesn't consider himself a brony... this isn't true. The Nostalgia Critic just posted a "Brony Story" that saved him from being stuck in Canada. One person attacked the Bronies and the Bronies let out the stampede. They are bronies. They aren't what Bronies want to be on the internet. But I doubt that Trekkers or Star Wars fans want to be seen by their most extremes.

Yeah, yeah. I know. Insert "I'm Gonna Love and Tolerate the Shit Outta You!" image meme here.

Trust me, I get that. I get that the VAST majority of its fanbase sees things that way, and they're really not the ones I was referring to.

I was more referring to the ones who get all worked up and defensive whenever Fox News Jackass-Of-The-Week writes an article or conducts an interview insulting them for their interests. The particularly obsessed ones seem to jump on any dissenting opinion of their favorite show as being the same sort of thing. Like I said in the above post... I just don't like it...

And I figured saying something like "Whoa now... hold your horses, guys!" might have resulted in a few Escapists having to be hospitalized for facepalm-related injuries. I was looking out for your health, I swear!

Gordon Freeman.

In all honesty, at least Isaac Clarke in DEAD SPACE 1 had more of a personality than him. And yet people see Gordon Freeman as some sort of second coming of christ as a character.

Its annoying that people use the "Master Chief has no personality" argument, yet completely praise Gordon Freeman ignoring what they just said.

If you think that I'm exactly the kind of person you were being "preemptive" about, then I apologize, I didn't mean any offense. I was just saying you could have expressed your opinion on the characters without having to direct that at us, I personally would have backed you up if anyone jumped on you for it.
The irony of the situation is that it was never even meant to be an attack on "Bronies." It was meant more as a "Hold your horses!" statement, except frankly that would have been a really bad pun (admit it, you would have facepalmed and you know it!). I believe I even stated that I have nothing particularly against the fan community...it just gets pretty groan-worthy how defensive some of its bigger fans are whenever someone expresses little to no interest in their beloved ponies.

It's almost like with those individuals there's a sort of persecution complex going on. Like if someone admits to not liking MLP, it's clearly because that person thinks that only little girls should like MLP.

/shrug.

It's not like that at all, at least for me. I just don't like the show. Simple as that. I gave it a chance, and it wasn't for me. I have no ill-feelings toward the general fanbase, regardless of age or gender, for liking it. Hell, in the past I've been told I need to grow the hell up because I'm in my mid-20's and still love chocolate milk... so to each their own, I guess.
Well, I mainly felt like responding because your comment didn't even explain your actual feelings on the characters, instead it went off on an instant defense against fans who may have criticized you (which they shouldn't).

I'm just trying to express that you shouldn't fear speaking your opinion. Reading comments like your initial one makes me think "what are we going to do, tear him apart?". It's kind of often that I encounter this too, like on our TF2 brony server, a non fan accidentally joined in and instantly stated "OH GOD, this is a pony server!? you're not going to hate me for not liking ponies are you?" and we all just chuckled telling him it was alright.

On that last note, lots of people dislike the show because it IS for little girls, but that's just their personal preference. I myself couldn't care less of that fact, if that's why they don't like it, then whatever. it's when some decide to get judgmental about it is when I have an issue.

I don't fear expressing my opinion. There's literally nothing deeper to my feelings on the subject than "I really don't like it" or "I didn't find it entertaining." Frankly, in my eyes anyway, it wasn't a deep enough show with deep enough characters to go into any sort of analysis of which facets of each character are unappealing and why. For the most part the characters are one-trick ponies one-dimensional in the same way that most characters are in children's programming. There's nothing inherently wrong with that... afterall, it's meant to be simple. But as such, my objections to it are also fairly simple. Give me a more complex series of characters, and I can come up with more complex analyses as to why I like or dislike them. The show just doesn't give me a whole lot to work with.

Perhaps I should reword what I said, I'm not expecting a deep analysis of any sort, just something beyond "I don't like it, please don't go on a witch hunt for me."

What you just said though is pretty much what I was looking for, "they're too underdeveloped for my liking, end of story."

And, again, I'm not trying to change your mind, or tell you that you're wrong. I think we can end this conversation now.

Except that's not the issue. It doesn't bother me that they're underdeveloped - that's just a staple of the genre, and I don't dislike the genre as a whole.

I just didn't like the show. That's pretty much it. The animation is pretty good and I can acknowledge that it's a reasonably well-made show, but it just didn't have that certain... je ne sais quoi... to grab me like it apparently did for many other people.

Every single character in every Pokemon game, yes that's including NPCs, they don't act human, they don't even act like robots, they act like robots who've based their personalities on aliens trying to blend in with humans.

Mario, completely devoid of any emotion, besides "get princess bootay", he's only here because he's old, he's a mascot nothing more.

Daenerys Motherfuckin' Targaryen. I just completely loathe her in A Dance With Dragons.
I already dislike her and I haven't even finished AGoT. I really don't know why, I just do.
OT: Link and Mario, they have practically no personality.

John Marston from Red Dead Redemption.

The guy is the biggest fucking doormat in the world of gaming. He's all bark no bite.
Thing is, he starts out pretty well. But then Mexico comes along and he casually shoves all his principles out of the door.
He also just doesn't do anything on his own.

He'll meet someone who knows more than him (which is apparently frikking everyone) and asks about Bill Williams. Said person tells him to grant a favour first before telling him. John goes and performs the favour, returns for the promised information, and gets fucking sent out again on another errand. All the while making empty threats about how they better tell him now or else. Threats on which he never delivers.

And that Mexico section just went on forever.

LSP from Adventure Time. Her character as a sassy, overdramatic teenager is TOO GOOD IT IS ANNOYING.

Her voice sucks too.
Like, oh my glop, your just like, jealous of her good looks and stuff.

Lightning from FF13. completely irresponsible, constantly gloomy, immature, aggressive, has very little character development and is generally just a very poorly done, generic character. Yet she's one of the most popular characters in the game and I'm willing to bet that a lot of the love comes from the fact that she's designed to be attractive.

Anyway the main person I have to talk about is the Main Character in Persona 3... Oh my god that guy was a dick. Seriously if you go for the antisocial loner character in a friendship based game you have to character develop him out of his dickish shell at some point... Think Neku from The World Ends With You (good game, should probably get back into that at some point.)

Crazy long 40/50/60 hour game and his character development is next to zero. Every other character is expanded upon and have arcs and all that awesomeness (<3 Aigis) but the MC remains unlikable and pretty much off-theme compared to the entire rest of the game
Yes, That's the point. He's a blank slate character; he's not supposed to have any character development. He's supposed to embody you to an extent, meaning that his character development comes from you and how you react to the events and people in the game. You're allowed to build him up however you want for that reason. He could be the biggest anti-social asshole you've ever seen, but you could also make him spray his power of friendship over everyone.

Neku from TWEWY on the other hand has a character of his own and it's so unbelievably bad it's astonishing. He seriously is one of the most obnoxious characters I've ever seen and his horrible scrip and the generally horrible dialogue in the game prevents me from really liking the game.

Also, more like 80/90/100 hour game, depending on how far you go with persona building. And yes, the party AI is absolutely atrocious. Also <3 Aigis, Akihiko and (especially) Yukari. Seriously, The answer increased the quality of her character a thousand fold. That scene... ;_;

Garrus from Mass Effect series (havent played 3 but I expect he hasnt changed) its hard to say what I despise about him so much, for a start I dont like his design so thats one thing but really its his personality that irks me always thinking hes the good guy and yet you have to constantly bail him out and set him straight he just seems so goddamn weak and then hes all hey remember this Shepard etc reminiscing on old times crap I just really wanted to kill the guy finally got my chance at the end of ME2. Good riddance to an irritating shitty character.

Ah that felt better there is also Gordan Freeman because he isnt really a character he has no depth or personality whatsoever he isnt really a character at all really just an automoton you control.

Master Chief I just find the guy so boring and unlikeable I really wish they would drop him/kill him off and change it up a bit I may actually try and get back into Halo then.

Really though for every character I hate others will like for possibly exactly the same reasons except they have interpreted them differently so I dont have a problem with people liking characters I hate but they wont convince me I am wrong about them because to me I am not even if to them I am.

I'm most likely going to get lynched for this but I have never liked Kaylee from Firefly. I just find her annoying and useless unless it has something to do with engines. She just feels like a huge Mary Sue and everone gushing about how great she is just makes it worse.

Also, slightly less lynchable, Kara "Starbuck" Thrace from Battlestar Galactica. I've never liked the reckless pilot charecter type and she seems to take the consept and elcetrifies it.

Feferi from Homestuck.

Holy shit.

Her typing quirk.

typing "H" as ")(" and all the fish puns.

>skips most of her dialogue entirely

I know this really doesn't have anything to do with video games, but I'm going to have to say Jim Halpert from the American version of The Office. I just think he can be kind of a douche, and on rare occasions his pranks on Dwight just seemed to cross the line into bullying and harassment. I also hate that his life is just too damn perfect.

Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades.

Seriously, can't understand why people think she's so great. The Zerg were much cooler when they were being commanded by a disembodied floating eyeball with a cool voice, they were just so much more Alien. I liked the idea that they couldn't be negotiated or bargained with, they simply consumed.

Then Kerrigan takes over, and all of the sudden she's engaging in diplomacy and back-stabbing people while bitching about how angry she is at the guy who, thanks to his betrayal, turned her into the most powerful beings in the universe. The Zerg don't backstab, they just eat you! Seriously Blizzard, please bring back the Overmind.

Juno from the 2008 movie, people call her charming and funny, but I just wanted to strangle her every time she opened her fucking mouth.
