Characters so annoying that they almost ruined the game

Nearly every character in Oblivion, except the vampires, the transvestite Orc and the homosexual Fighter's Guild member. Seriously, just stand near a couple of characters conversing for a while, and you'll see what I mean.

Really? I thought Quina's naivety really helped string the plot along. S/he was entertaining enough.

I firmly believe that modern JRPG characters and stories are actually unintentional parodies of the poorly translated characters and stories found in earlier games. Devs didn't know what the hell they were doing when they translated all that text in FF7, and they mistakenly produced a lot of indefensibly atrocious characters and stories in the process. Years later, those some horrible traits have become genre standards. Rather than acknowledge the deeply flawed translations of earlier titles, the fans have simply adopted those same flaws as their criteria for quality.

This is literally the only explanation I have for why anyone would enjoy the characters and stories in modern FF games.

Also, Nathan Drake is the sole reason I don't own Uncharted 1/2.

There's a rat in part 1 - 2 that had a bit of character I must admit. But Sheva, Chris, Wesker, Irving etc all had horrible dialogue and voice acting.

I would say Moira from Fallout 3, but all you have to do to shut her up a little bit is tell her that her book would never work and then she quiets down a little. Plus, I gues she isn't "game ruining," cause you can cap her in the skull from day one and not miss anything.
